NFL Scout with 40yrs exp. says Giants love Michigan T . . .

AcidTest : 4/22/2014 9:22 pm
Michael Schofield.

The scout is Dave-Te'Thomas. He has more than 40 years of experience scouting for the NFL. With the NFL Draft Report, Thomas handles a staff that evaluates and tests college players before the draft and prepares the NFL's official Draft Packet, which is distributed to all 32 teams prior to the draft.

Thomas says Schofield is the best RT in the draft. Scroll down to 7:20 of his draft chat. Link. Here is an analysis of Schofield, which says that he could be picked as early as the end of day two. Link

Thomas also loves Dennard. Says he is the best CB prospect in the last ten years. Loves Donald. He HATES Manziel.

Dave-Te'?

What the hell...
Schofield would be a fine pick...

Round 3 at the earliest though.

the Giants believe Pugh can play LT at a high level they can't take a guy they think is a RT high. LT is a huge issue

I don't know why Pugh wouldn't be able to play LT. He played it at Syracuse very effectively and has very good feet.

That's a fair point Mook but even if they expect Pugh to stay a RT this year Schofield would be insurance. Depth was an issue up and down the line last year.
the Giants
MookGiants : 4/22/2014 9:57 pm : link
right now don't have the luxury of using a high pick on the OL as "insurance" . They need guys who can step in and play.
Wow, interesting Dennard stat...

I wasn't aware of:

Quote:
Only 3 CBS ever since 1968 held opponents to less than 1 yard per pass attempt-Jim Marsallis, Dennard & Deion

Later in the chat he mentions that Dennard has the LOWEST YPA of all since 1968 - at 0.88 ypa.

Pretty impressive.

I've liked Dennard, spent most of the year thinking he was the clear-cut number one CB off the board, but I've been influenced to think he should be lower. Gotta go back and watch some more tape. It's so hard to do that with a CB though.
Wow....

Here's what he has to say about Donad:

"Hell, Donald is my #1 player, period. Yeah, shoot me but wait 3 years & see what this kid does as an under-tackle"
they sad the same stuff about Guy Whimper

so I take that with a grain of salt.

I get that, but frankly most LTs we draft after Round 1 aren't likely to be plug and play anyway. I'd rather we take the best tackle talent available than force a pick on someone with LT feet but drawbacks.
Good read.
Andy in Halifax : 4/22/2014 10:28 pm : link
He'd take Donald #1 overall. BBI will like that.
you can find
MookGiants : 4/22/2014 10:32 pm : link
interior linemen that can play day 1 in rounds 2 or 3. Eli isn't going to be around forever, they need to fix the line immediately, not projects, not guys for insurance.
Schofield's experience at LG is a significant plus.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/22/2014 10:39 pm : link
By 2015 (if not sooner), I think Schwartz will be on the right side, which is probably where he belongs. Other than maybe Mosley, I don't see a future left guard on the roster. Of course, if Beatty falters and Pugh moves, right tackle becomes a need too.

He did have a good number of qualms about him. But I like it, its being objective and fair. Its a very good analysis
Didn't Mayock correctly predict Pugh?

I'm waiting for his analysis. He's dead on balls accurate

He has one mock and it comes out the night before the draft
I wouldn't mind Giants drafting Lewan & Schofield

Big mean bastards.
Not so sure about this guy
Andy in Halifax : 4/23/2014 7:57 am : link
Read his chat from last year. His number 1 bust was Ansah (nope). Very little of what I read (I stopped half way through) seemed on the mark. It was shockingly bad actually, although after only 1 year its hard to make a final conclusion on these players.
Although worth noting I suppose that

of the Giants picks last year, he loved Pugh (but made a TRex joke lol) and Cooper Taylor. HATED DaMonster, called him toxic.

sy56, any thoughts on this player?
Victor in CT : 4/23/2014 8:36 am : link
Obviously not in your Top 10, but is he a viable NFL prospect?
Pugh is awfully small to play OT in the NFL
JonC : 4/23/2014 8:39 am : link
Not ideal, though he looks like a solid player at RT, want a bigger athlete at LT.

Maybe my thinking is out of date, but I always thought ROTs tended to be bigger than LOTs. LOTs tended to be the better athletes, and sometimes you'd see a guy like Ogden who had LOT athleticism in a ROT size body.
Historically, yes
JonC : 4/23/2014 8:48 am : link
but it seems we've flipped the script, probably out of need, probably because the paradigm may have tilted to mobility before size. Not certain, but 6'4 310 is a small tackle.

310 is much closer to where you'd want a tackle to be
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/23/2014 9:26 am : link
than 298.

I think it says a lot about Pugh's talent that he can be effective at 298 at RT. I wonder if you'd want him to keep adding weight. At some point it might affect his game.
Is Dave Te still wearing the Turban?

Guy Whimper actually was a better player than he gets credit for here. He's been a solid backup and decent starter when called upon. Going into his 9th year in the league.

More than can be said about some of the other Reese offensive line picks.

Id love a Go Blue OL!
Pugh is 6'4 and ~302
JonC : 4/26/2014 4:34 pm : link
that is small when you consider most of the NYG RTs in recent years have been consistently closer to 6'6 and 315-335. Let's not be obtuse here.
Coughlin has said they think Pugh could play LT
PatersonPlank : 4/26/2014 4:55 pm : link
and that is an option. Also Pugh is up to 315 now (according to Pugh of course).
An option, perhaps
JonC : 4/26/2014 5:00 pm : link
but I'm not bypassing a better prospect in lieu of Pugh. The whole idea here is to get better.
