NDT: What Giant makes the leap this year?

Gatorade Dunk : 4/23/2014 12:32 pm
I remember back when the Giants drafted Dayne, it seemed to coincide with Tiki's increased commitment to his training and conditioning, the implied conclusion being that Tiki was motivated by the Giants using a first round pick on a player at his position.

What players currently on the roster are best positioned to make a similar leap this year? Seems like Beatty, Randle and Robinson are candidates just based on their position and the likelihood that a prospect will be drafted to compete with them (or in Robinson's case, to essentially replace him).

Thoughts?
I am hoping Damontre Moore makes some progress.

He showed some flashes late last year and it woulf be great to see him take that next step. We obviously need someone to step up and replace Tuck's presence.

On a side note, my wife interviewed him for an article she wrote and she was very impressed with his maturity and kindness, which makes me want to route for him even more.
DaMontre is in a great spot
ImaGiant86 : 4/23/2014 12:52 pm : link
He's going to see a lot of 1-on-1 opportunities with JPP getting attention, if he can win a few of those a game he could have a nice impact on our defense.
Randle.
AcidTest : 4/23/2014 12:56 pm : link
We've seen flashes of his considerable talent. A better OL, running game, and an offense less complicated than nuclear physics should bring out his best.
Sounds like Will Hill is leaping off a cliff.

Hankins, Moore, and Randle need to produce in a big way, I think Randle will surprise a few people.
Jerrel Jernigan.
MOOPS : 4/23/2014 1:02 pm : link
I predict he's gonna go Randall Cobbish.

Wow, this is a really good point. I don't know why no one else thought of this before. Jernigan can be very dangerous taking hand offs and catching passes behind the LOS. he could be used like cobb and percy as we seen him bounch off bit hits.
JPP is going to have a monster season.....

and then demand a massive contract.

Moore and Hankins as of right now are going to be in a position to make a leap. I'm not sure Jernigan will have enough opportunities unless Cruz gets hurt.
At this point it needs to be Damontre Moore but he was invisible last

year.

I remember when Osi and Tuck were both rookies and they at least showed some impressive flashes. Great players at least show you something. Moore got totally abused. As soon as the offensive lineman got his hands on Moore he was done. I don't know if thats a lack of strength or moves or what...but he really needs to step up big time this season.

I think David Wilson is the guy thats going to step up this year. Wishful thinking maybe lol. But if his neck holds up I think this is the year the light goes on.
I am going to really stick my neck out

and say Adrien Robinson.
Randle.

being his next snap will be his first.

I think we have seen what Randle is, which is inconsistent.

Moore is the guy that can really step up and make a difference.

Indeed, I realize it's a blind guess, based on nearly nothing, other than the fact that he is supposed to be an athletic freak and the fact that we don't have a viable experienced TE on the roster right now.

He could completely stink up the joint, or suffer a career ending injury in the first practice. I dunno. I'm just throwing a dart at the wall here.
I would say Jerigan on offense
Hades07 : 4/23/2014 1:37 pm : link
and Spencer Paysinger on defense.
i think Jernigan
Les in TO : 4/23/2014 1:41 pm : link
will continue to produce like he did at the end of last season.

Beason with a full off season to digest the defense and get to know his teammates is going to make some plays in the running game that we haven't really had since pierce.

I would love to see David Wilson reach....
Crispino : 4/23/2014 1:56 pm : link
the potential he's flashed. You need a good tandem and he and Jennings would make a good one if he comes back and produces.

johnnyb : 4/23/2014 1:57 pm : link
I hope you are right. we obviously need a TE and our only other option is to draft one high.

If Robinson works out, that would be awesome. I would be OK with drafting Ebron too.
Cooper Tayler

Nah, I agree with Moore and Jernigan. No reason to single him out but hopefully Hosely. I think Randle will do very well but that's more from him maturing and a better system, not so much that he makes a big leap on his own.
The good news is that there are a lot of candidates.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/23/2014 2:04 pm : link
The bad news is that there are a lot of candidates.
Offense: Robinson, Mosley, Wilson, Randle, Jernigan.
Defense: Hankins, Moore, Williams, Hosley, Taylor.
Never thought of Paysinger
oldmanTom : 4/23/2014 2:04 pm : link
but you may be right. He has gotten bigger and stronger each year. Last, with Beason in the middle, he played quite well. I can see him improving this year and becoming a good to very good LB.
I think with Beason there in the middle
Hades07 : 4/23/2014 2:10 pm : link
it will allow Paysinger to make a bigger impact. He can play both the run and pass, so there is no reason to take him off the field. Williams I think may be a part time player with Paysinger and McClain playing beside Beason. Paysinger is the most athletic of the bunch there and sinch he can play run and pass he can play every down. I really think Spencer will have a big year and surprise a lot of people with his play.
I think Hankins will take a pretty solid step forward.
arcarsenal : 4/23/2014 3:10 pm : link
.
I think Jernigan is the new
GMANinDC : 4/23/2014 3:15 pm : link
Hixon..Randle and Manny are going to keep his PT very low..
For Defense
beatrixkiddo : 4/23/2014 4:15 pm : link
I'll go with Hankins and Moore. Hankins has the greatest chance to step in right away to a full time role filling Josephs Shoes. Moore will get his chance to show he is the second best pass rusher on this team behind JPP, something this team is in desperate need of. I think both of these guys are going to be much improved after last year, and a year of strength and conditioning.

For Offense I'll go with Wilson and Randle. I think both will benefit from a new offensive system and an improved O-line. I expect Wilson to be used in the pass game in this offense, giving him big time opportunities to work his magic in space where he is most dangerous.
