Hoping there is something more to it....and maybe its not as black and white, in that he failed another drug test. Don't you think they would have released him by now if it was that cut and dry?? Anyone hearing anything out there???
He is appealing. They'll let the process play out first
the Giants being furious over this, if that is the case it entails that this is the end. They usually have more info than we would know about this. He is gone lets move on.....
be able to cut him until his appeal is decided, or, they are just voluntarily holding off, in part so as to not pre-judge(even though GUILT may already have been discussed and is true).
At this point I'd hope, for his own good, for a full season suspension by the league, then a signoff by an approved rehab ctr. as the only way he can get reinstatement, whoever might still want him.
saying the Giants didn't really care about the appeal....they would probably release him anyway. I'm just wondering why they haven't done it yet.
Andy, that report was rank speculation by Ralph V reported as actual news. I think he had one anon. source that said the Giants might act that way.
Regardless, he either failed a drug test or he didn't fail a drug test. If he failed a test, he's screwed. If this story is just the league looking into his earlier traffic stop, then he very well may win on appeal.
There is no need to do anything right now. They have already spoken with Hill and I expect that he is scared shit based on what has been said. The depth of his stupidity has been well documented here so I won't get into that. I do hope and want the best for him. I know the Giants will do what is best for the team and that they have a lot more information that we have. I believe that they will make the right decision based on that information.
Options: Trade, Release, Keep
I believe that the Giants will do their own investigation and let the appeal process run its course while gauging interest in a trade.
I also believe they would let him serve his suspension continuing to guage any trade interest and would make a decision on him at that point.
The decision would be based on information that we don't have and possibly based on his actions between now and the date of the decision.
I do not think that they will be counting on him to be a reliable contributor. He would have to be considered a "High Risk" even if he is NOT suspended.
If I had to guess. They will let the process play out and would release him at the most advantagious time from a salary cap perspective.
question regarding the players association - would they intervene if the giants cut him after the league makes their decision to suspend him? lets say they suspend him for 8-games, is there something in the CBA that says the giants can't cut him until the suspension is over? maybe its a dumb question, but might be a reason why the giants haven't done anything yet.
he will get one more chance, regardless of the outcome of his appeal. if he fails again then the giants will make like rosie perez in white men can't jump and leave him for good.
looks like if the suspention is upheld it will be for a full year
I assume he is already in stage two and this will move him to stage 3
The first positive test for a "substance of abuse" results in the player formally entering an enhanced testing/treatment program, where the player is tested more frequently.
A second positive test results in the player entering the "stages of intervention" outlined in the policy. "Stage 1" is the first stage in the policy and includes the player being referred to a "Regional Team" for his treatment. In Stage 1, the player can be tested as many times as the league's "Medical Director" desires to "adequately evaluate the player."
A positive test while in Stage 1 can result in a fine equal to three weeks of a player's pay and results in entrance to Stage 2.
A player remains under Stage 1 guidelines for 90 days, but the league's Medical Director can extend that time up to six months.
In Stage 2, players are subject to unannounced testing up to 10 times a month. A positive test while in Stage 2 or failure to comply with the treatment program results in a fine equal to four game checks and a four-game suspension.
Six-game suspensions are also possible in Stage 2.
Players can appeal the fine and suspension within five business days of receiving the "notice of discipline."
Players remain in Stage 2 for two full seasons or 24 consecutive months, whichever is shorter.
Players move to Stage 3 if they have two positive tests when in Stage 2 or one positive test to go with one instance when the player failed to comply with the program.
Players who are placed into Stage 3 remain in Stage 3 for the remainder of their careers.
The minimum suspension for a violation in Stage 3 is a calendar year. Link - ( New Window )

No. He would be an UFA. But would not be available to see the field until his suspension is over or lifted. Pacman Jones and Vick are examples.
I guess if this is his first failed test in stage two
He failed a drug test! Why do you think he wouldn't meet with reporters or make any comments like, "the test result was wrong, I did not use any banned or illegal drugs!" I am sure his contract has an out for conduct detrimental to the team, he is history! I guess we need to draft or otherwise bring in a few FS types to be prudent!

Easy. Take a prozac.
If the Giants could get 10 games out of Hill of equal quality to 2013,
and he's too damn cheap. I wouldn't look down on the Giants' organization for keeping him.
The further removed I am from the breaking of this news, the more I want to keep Will Hill. He's an epic moron, but at this stage, he's not costing you a heck of a lot of money and he's not #1 on the most wanted list. Let's see what happens but I'd lean in every way possible towards keeping him-I understand organizational policy and the need to follow that, but the NFL is presumably dishing out the punishment here. Let him serve that and see. He could only lose so many game checks before he retires or changes.
Will Hill is one of the most important players on the team. This isn't a small deal.
Agreed. Hill may have been the best player on the D last year and its no small coincidence that the D began its turnaround when he returned. If he'd have played a 16 game season last year he was on pace for 110+ tackles and 4 picks. Plus he laid the wood and was a physical presence. I hope there's a way they can keep him. Its obvious the Giants are dealing with a guy who has trouble learning from mistakes and toeing the line but the talent is worth keeping. You can't field a team full of choir boys.
factor dooms him. It's too bad because he's excellent but they're going to keep nailing him just as they did Tannard Jacksom, who was another S that could play.
RE: If the Giants could get 10 games out of Hill of equal quality to 2013,
Are the Giants willing to plan for the worst and hope for the best? Or would they rather remove the uncertainty and cut him loose all together? Those are the real questions they are facing.
I believe they care less about what he did and are more concerned with how it affects his realiability. This is not a moral issue, smoking pot doesn't make him a bad guy. Smoking pot when you know the potential consequences does show bad judgement and make him unreliable.
This is about Fewell knowing what he has and what he can rely on as he begins installation. With Rolle+Hill+S.Brown from day 1 he can really develop his bison package
with Hill tenuous even if he's available to practice, Fewell will scrap working on the bison so much and lean on traditional CB-heavy subpackages
in other words - hill is f#cking up the planning which is compounding things.if he's unavailable they'll need to go in a completely different direction and u want to be practicing/installing/focusing what you'll be using in the season, NOW
Making hasty moves like that isn't the Giants way.

Does it work in his advantage that his first suspension was for PEDs and the next for substance abuse?
Easy. Take a prozac.
That's what I be sayin'.

Yeah, this should be no problem. He is as reliable as they come.
If a player had a script for medical marijuana what does the NFL say about it being used as a medicine?
As marijuana becomes more and more legalized I wonder if the NFL policy will change on it at all in the future?
His name is Hasean. Ha Ha is just a nickname.

It doesn't matter. The NFL has a drug and alcohol policy. That takes precedence anything else.

You are a clean year away from getting possible a nice new contract worth millions, especially after playing at a Pro-Bowl level at times last year.
I just don't get it and it makes me sad...not just because he is a Giant either.
