At Fenway, RF has a hell of a lot more ground than LF.
Eh
BigBlueShock : 4/23/2014 6:36 pm : link
You're right. Brain fart on my part. I apologize for my ignorance. I had visions of Yankee Stadium dancing in my head for some reason
yep, that's part of why the Sox signed Victorino last year
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 6:49 pm : link
you want a guy with CF range playing RF at Fenway. And you can hide a defensive liability in LF so long as they learn how to play the carom off the wall.
they need another OF designation for what is classically LF
RasputinPrime : 4/23/2014 6:51 pm : link
for Fenway. I'd stick the 3B with the best cannon (all other things being equal) out in that spot. That wall sure is a doubles killer.
it takes away shallow singles too
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 6:53 pm : link
you don't need to play LF deep, for a horrible defensive player in a typical outfield Manny Ramirez actually got to be really good at judging the plays off the wall letting him cut down anything hit shallow in front of him.
Horrible at bat by McCann
Phil in LA : 4/23/2014 7:17 pm : link

really not a fan of playing people
RasputinPrime : 4/23/2014 7:22 pm : link
out of position regardless of their talent.

That said, I don't think Beltran will ever want to play in RF in Fenway again.

has a lot of balls doing stuff like this when many of his pitchers have been proven to cheat. Girardi needs to tell the guy coming out of the pen to throw right at the back of Ortiz

Meh

What can Farrell do when it is so ----ing blatant?
Lester
MookGiants : 4/23/2014 7:54 pm : link
in a world series game, Farrell has a lot of balls. Every single time Lester or Buchholz pitches I'm having them checked. All bets are off now.

Definitely have to throw at Sloppy his next time up.

Dave in Hoboken : 4/23/2014 7:56 pm : link
because he's 1-4 against the Yanks this season. And it's a way to get a pitcher thrown out who pretty much dominated his team a couple weeks ago. Butt-sore.
when your pitchers
MookGiants : 4/23/2014 7:56 pm : link
blatantly use it and have in the past yes he should ignore it. Especially when your pitcher blatantly did it in a fucking world series game too
as Mook said - all bets are off

hopefully this will make the yankee hitters mad
sinctybldh : 4/23/2014 7:59 pm : link
and they can go out and terrorize lackey.
now the question becomes
RasputinPrime : 4/23/2014 8:00 pm : link
why Pineda with oven mits for hands can't grip the ball without some tar.

You know, for all the crap hitters have taken for using ______, some leaguewide turnabout is fair play might be in order.
I would make
MookGiants : 4/23/2014 8:00 pm : link
the umpire check the pitcher every single inning for the rest of the series if I'm Girardi. The only reason Farrell didn't check last game was because he knew his pitcher was doing the same thing that night, as Buchholz always does.

It's something that guys do most of the time and the managers know it. This is not going to end well for Farrell, blatant or not shouldn't matter. He knows his guys are doing it, if he doesn't he's a clueless fuck
agreed Mook

inning.

you would think
MookGiants : 4/23/2014 8:09 pm : link
Farrell would know better than to have guys checked when he has Lester and Buchholz as 40% of his rotation. This is not going to end well for the Red Sox, these guys aren't going to get away with the stuff they have for years now. It's kind of an unwritten rule not to check guys. It doesn't matter if its blatant, they know when guys are doing it and can have them checked whenever, but most managers never even consider it because they knew their guys are doing it too.

if you're discreet about it? Cheating is cheating. Farrell's explanation is fucking bullshit, was Lester discreet about it in the world series last year?

Farrell is going to regret this. I bet Lester and Buchholz are not very happy with him, because he crossed a line that you shouldn't cross and now his guys are going to be checked, and its not just going to be the Yankees checking them

Yankees inexplicably never throw at Ortiz. IIRC, YES or some other station had a stat that Ortiz had only 1 HBP in his entire time as a Red Sox vs. the Yankees.

Hate how the Yankees don't throw at guys and let the other teams get away with murder.

see the play at hand, but calling for pitchers to intentionally hit batters is something I will never condone.

USC ballplayer hit in ribs, was coughing up blood for 5 minutes

Delino DeShields Jr. after getting hit in the face

Omar Infante hit in the face

But it also takes a lot of nerve for the Red Sox to complain about it considering that Bucholz used something last year, and Lester had a substance in his glove in the World Series.

Not only that but, they have the mentality that their team wins with just blue collar grit and hustle. $100 million dollar payroll be damned!

I wonder why we dont hear shit about the Red Sox winning the World Series with a $100+ million dollar payroll but, when the Yankees do it, they're, "Ruining baseball" and, "Buying championships". Talk about hypocrites.

He's got a record of tremendous clutch hitting in the postseason, and is a big part of the culture of the city, which was highlighted in last year's horrible attack. So long as he continues to test clean and be the great public face of the team as he has been, Papi is going to worshiped in Boston. That's simply the way it is.

Latin America has a long and consistent history with all sorts of performance enhancers going back to their pre-teen years in some cases. When that bubble bursts we are going to see a very different landscape.

in the left/right pitcher split after Adrian Gonzalez was traded for? PEDs don't make you magically hit lefties again, a hole in his approach was identified and fixed by a teammate (Gonzalez), and his numbers against lefties have rebounded since.

You're probably not going to have much traction in this crowd, and rightfully so. There may be persuasive explanations for some of his rebound, but the fact that a guy with a failed test has what is probably the best late-career turnaround by a power hitter in baseball history (if you can find a better one I'm all ears) is probably more easily explained by the Dominican offseasons than by some on-point hitting instruction.

Totally normal for journeymen nobodies who get cut from the Twins to go on and have career years at age 36.

Funny how 'Ortiz' is such an integral fabric of the City. He is until he's not. I seem to recall Nomar and Manny Billboards littered throughout Beantown before the swift media campaign to smear them and run them out of town fomented. Of course, what can you expect from a city whose 2 best athletes of All-Time (Bill Russell and Ted Williams) boycotted for decades.

The facts though are that he hasn't tested positive since - if he does he'll get castigated for it, just like the other cheats have been. There were hundreds who failed that initial round for an unknown variety of substances, and a hell of a lot less have tested positive since... I'd think we all agree that that is a good thing.

I post facts and acknowledge when errors are made both ways, part of why I think my presence here has worked. When something falsely goes the way of my squad I'll call it. Ortiz's production against RHP was still high, he was getting killed for a couple years by LHP and Gonzalez noticed a specific error in his first ST with the team, the rebound followed. Having the bone spur in the achilles removed helped too, but I credit Gonzalez with his rebound. PED's can help you recover faster, they can make you stronger, they can't selectively fix a floundering batting split.

would give a shit about Ortiz if assholes like Dempster, Gomes and Lackey, among others, didn't jump all over AROD last year. The Sox were bitching about Peralta being eligible to play for the Tigers last postseason, too, after his suspension was up. It's hard to believe they can say anything with a straight face. Their DH is a chemistry experiment, just like Napoli and many others (on all teams).
