People who dont take care of their children and look like the walking dead usually have that effect on people.

Let's not forget divorcing his wife a couple months after her double mastectomy.

HA! I totally forgot about that. What a pillar of the community he is.

Jeter with three shitty defensive plays in the same fucking game.
really.

everything going wrong tonight, but can't deny Jeter is in the middle of it.
The hypocrisy is hilarious.

But you have to remember, these are the same people who still refuse to believe Ortiz ever took PEDs. So, it shouldn't be that shocking.

the most bad defensive plays by Jeter in one game. He has literally underperformed on every ball he has had come his way today.

Not only that but, they have the mentality that their team wins with just blue collar grit and hustle. $100 million dollar payroll be damned!

I wonder why we dont hear shit about the Red Sox winning the World Series with a $100+ million dollar payroll but, when the Yankees do it, they're, "Ruining baseball" and, "Buying championships". Talk about hypocrites.

$158.9 million to be exact. 4th highest in baseball.
I'm pretty much giving up hope that Tex

a supposedly anonymous test, and what exactly he was on wasn't ever accounted for. No negative tests since. I don't believe that he was clean, but there is certainly much less of a cause to vilify than say for those who have continued to abuse the system like ARod, Manny, and Braun. He's got a record of tremendous clutch hitting in the postseason, and is a big part of the culture of the city, which was highlighted in last year's horrible attack. So long as he continues to test clean and be the great public face of the team as he has been, Papi is going to worshiped in Boston. That's simply the way it is.
lets' just be honest
RasputinPrime : 4/23/2014 10:27 pm : link
there is no way in hell someone with Ortiz's build is smoking balls like he does naturally. Not at his age and not after his very rapid decline a few years ago.

i can't wait for that story to break.

Latin America has a long and consistent history with all sorts of performance enhancers going back to their pre-teen years in some cases. When that bubble bursts we are going to see a very different landscape.

Turn the page. We'll win tomorrow.

He only failed one test, bro. Obviously, it's not that big of a deal.

Lulz.
how many times do I have to point out the change
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 10:29 pm : link
in the left/right pitcher split after Adrian Gonzalez was traded for? PEDs don't make you magically hit lefties again, a hole in his approach was identified and fixed by a teammate (Gonzalez), and his numbers against lefties have rebounded since.
WeatherMan - love you for all you do for BBI, and
Del Shofner : 4/23/2014 10:30 pm : link
you are obviously a gentleman and a scholar, as well as brave to hang out on a Yankees thread when they play the BoSox.

That said, we're just going to hate Ortiz no matter what you say. It's just the way it is. :-)

You're probably not going to have much traction in this crowd, and rightfully so. There may be persuasive explanations for some of his rebound, but the fact that a guy with a failed test has what is probably the best late-career turnaround by a power hitter in baseball history (if you can find a better one I'm all ears) is probably more easily explained by the Dominican offseasons than by some on-point hitting instruction.

Totally normal for journeymen nobodies who get cut from the Twins to go on and have career years at age 36.

Funny how 'Ortiz' is such an integral fabric of the City. He is until he's not. I seem to recall Nomar and Manny Billboards littered throughout Beantown before the swift media campaign to smear them and run them out of town fomented. Of course, what can you expect from a city whose 2 best athletes of All-Time (Bill Russell and Ted Williams) boycotted for decades.

ARod hasn't failed a test since, either. ARod should have lied the first time like Ortiz did
again, I'm not saying he was clean
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 10:32 pm : link
The facts though are that he hasn't tested positive since - if he does he'll get castigated for it, just like the other cheats have been. There were hundreds who failed that initial round for an unknown variety of substances, and a hell of a lot less have tested positive since... I'd think we all agree that that is a good thing.
not testing positive since
MookGiants : 4/23/2014 10:34 pm : link
its virtually meaningless, ARod we know was using and never failed a test
Corey Black with his second no-hit outing of the season...

5 IP last time, 6 IP this time (with 8 Ks). I'm fine with the deal but he could end up being a real surprise for the Cubs.

You guys can keep worshiping the fraud all you like. Doesn't make him any less of a fraud.

I'm not posting to change hearts and minds
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 10:37 pm : link
I post facts and acknowledge when errors are made both ways, part of why I think my presence here has worked. When something falsely goes the way of my squad I'll call it. Ortiz's production against RHP was still high, he was getting killed for a couple years by LHP and Gonzalez noticed a specific error in his first ST with the team, the rebound followed. Having the bone spur in the achilles removed helped too, but I credit Gonzalez with his rebound. PED's can help you recover faster, they can make you stronger, they can't selectively fix a floundering batting split.

All the names, all the substances. It would be a firestorm but it'd clear up a lot of bullshit. I'd like to know what he failed for, no doubt about it.
Ortiz never hit more that 20 home runs in a season

his 6 years with the Twins.

All of a sudden, he gets to Boston and, he's putting up video game numbers? Nothing goin on there. Nope. Nothing at all.

would give a shit about Ortiz if assholes like Dempster, Gomes and Lackey, among others, didn't jump all over AROD last year. The Sox were bitching about Peralta being eligible to play for the Tigers last postseason, too, after his suspension was up. It's hard to believe they can say anything with a straight face. Their DH is a chemistry experiment, just like Napoli and many others (on all teams).
Melky did. Colon did. Braun did.
WeatherMan : 4/23/2014 10:48 pm : link
There are still users getting caught, I know no testing can be perfect but at least they're getting more serious about it now. On that note I need to crash, it's been a long ass day.
Brady Anderson and Luis Gonzalez never juiced either I guess
Kulish29 : 4/23/2014 10:49 pm : link
Brady hit his 50 in '96 and Luis his 57 in '01 all on sheer grit and good ol' determination. Surprising they weren't Red Sox.

Yeah...Posting links to Red Sox related news sites isnt really going to get anyone thinking another way.
sure
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/23/2014 11:21 pm : link
it could be merely having conversations with another lefty hitter about going the other way-- or, more likely, it was a newfound ability to explode open his hips and be able to turn on those inside pitches from lefty pitchers.

which could, presumably, include saliva. I'd love to know the creative gum chewing that goes on in the game today.

The Red Sox are easy to hate. They give Yankees fans new reasons every year. They got dumb-ass lucky last season and aren't going to whiff the playoffs this season so i'll let them have their win tonight. We'll recoup, give Pineda a private love-tap, and get back on track.
