Started playing last year-- I've played camp gaw about 30 times. Wear good hiking boots and watch out for ticks and even snakes. I had a tick on me last week but no bullseye and the little fucker wasn't engorged so I should be Lyme free, thank god. And we encountered a copper head on the trail last year.
Now that I've scared the fuck out of you, I'll say that camp gaw is great. You gradually climb through the first 8-9 holes, nothing major, and then you have to climb a pretty sharp incline for about 60 - 90 seconds after hole 9. Takes some effort and some minor huffing and puffing but once you hit the top the back 9 is really nice and no more climbing except for a little hike on hole 15, I think.
I love disc golf. Good cheap way to enjoy the day. Still looking for my first ace...
But I always play what I believe to be the shorter tees but I'm honestly not sure which is which. We just play the one we are used to. Longest hole is a downhill scenic bomb on 17 and it takes luck to avoid the trees but it you make it through you can birdie the hole. Most holes are about 200 feet some less some more one other one is over 300. It's a tough course with all the trees but quite enjoyable. They play tournaments there but I never joined one yet.
Basically just park in the big lot and walk up the path keeping the buildings on your left and you will pass a putting practice cage area, also on your left and when you come to a little shed, that's hole one. Most of the holes are pretty easy to find but it can get a little tricky. I actually might be there Saturday or Sunday so look for me on this thread and we can meet up possibly.
disks for my birthday and have never played either. But will be sure to wear bug spray because I don't want Lyme either. Thanks for the reminder lots of deer ticks where I live.
Have fun! Is this sport totally associated with pot smoking? I'm not into that. Just want to play disk golf fume free.
