OK: You can have AD at #12, but Cleveland is offering . . .

AcidTest : 4/23/2014 10:18 pm
Pick 26 and pick 35 for pick 12. According to the draft value chart, it's a fair trade. Pick 12 is worth 1,200 points. Picks 26 and 25 are worth 700 and 550 points respectively.

The biggest negative is that you lose BBI favorite Donald, easily the best, most explosive, tackle in the draft. Dropping that far also means you lose any chance at Martin, Ebron, Gilbert, Dennard, Dix, and Pryor.

But one of CK or Moses is likely to still be available, and if not, pick 35 gives you a great chance at getting Bitonio. You also gain a high second round pick, which is especially important given the depth of this draft and the looming suspension of Will Hill. That extra pick provides an enormous amount of flexibility. And even Donald isn't without his questions. He put up 35 reps on the bench, but is still undersized by NFL standards for a DT.

We also have a lot of holes. Football is a violent game. Any one player, however talented, can be out of the year in an instant. We also have a GM whose recent drafts have been shaky. Multiple picks give him a better chance of filling those holes with quality players.

I'd make the trade, but if you don't like this, what would it take for you to trade out of #12 with AD on the board?
Jerry, you want

THREE draft choices for #12?
I would rather see

If Arizona woud trade 20 and 52. Not sure what the numbers are in terms of trade value but in the early 20's there is a clear dropoff in terms of talent and 26 may catch us a little below that dropoff
Yeah I agree
BigBlueShock : 4/23/2014 10:30 pm : link
Mike nailed it. Dropping back that far is too far. Ideally I'd like to drop back no later than 20
Not sure how I feel about giving up the 12 th pick.
Rjanyg : 4/23/2014 10:31 pm : link
I guess if Odel Becham is available at 26 I'd be ok with that. Bitonio and Niklas in round 2 with Easley in round 3. That would be a haul.

You're my GM!
Especially if we get their 4th.(Not too expensive for them).

However, waiting for 25 lets another 13 of the very top go by before we pick makes me a little shaky.
Now, if its the 3rd rounder at 67 then ours at 74....I'm thinking hard about it.
id need 26 and cleveland 1st next year
CGiants07 : 4/23/2014 10:38 pm : link
to drop that low
With AD still available
mrvax : 4/23/2014 10:39 pm : link
I would just draft him and screw the trade. I really believe he's going to be a special kind of player that fans will love. He'll help wreck the best laid plans of any offensive coordinator.

(I've never been so sold out on any other draft prospect, ever.)
that CLE trade allows us to walk away with

Yes, I make the trade.

Fairly deep draft...accumulate more quality picks...fill more holes.

Just to stop the Donald threads. Easily worth it.
Stay put

IMO, part of the problem with recent drafts is that the Giants have drafted near the backend. Although it is a nice problem to have because it means the team is winning, but the team doesn't always get a shot at the elites
Absolutely not
sjnyfan : 4/24/2014 8:56 am : link
I'm not passing on that much talent and value just for extra picks. If you want to trade back then you do it with the 2nd rd pick this year, not the 1st.
I want the best player
JonC : 4/24/2014 9:43 am : link
we stand to acquire a very good red chipper at #12. Quality over quantity in this instance, imo.
Somewhat tempting...
rptl530 : 4/24/2014 9:45 am : link
but I'd need to get a little more than that.
JOMO, please...no Australians.

Nope.

I take the top 12 talent.
Its not like free agency filled all the serious holes
Jimmy Googs : 4/24/2014 9:47 am : link
we have with this roster, especially on Offense.

Accumulating extra picks could be a sound strategy for a team not exactly on the cusp of an NFC title in 2014.
Unlikely this draft fills those holes
JonC : 4/24/2014 9:53 am : link
with players that step into the lineup in 2014 either. You can also be pretty sure the brass is confident in the roster post-UFA, to the point where they won't force moves like filling holes with lesser talent.

Quality, please.
Right, the extra picks develop and begin to step into the
Jimmy Googs : 4/24/2014 9:58 am : link
holes in 2015. 2014 is going to be a stretch to just compete for the division title.

make the pick at 12, you have no idwea what will be avialable
dangerousrappingfrog : 4/24/2014 10:00 am : link
should you wait, It won't be a top 15 talent, that is for sure.
quality vs. quantity
area junc : 4/24/2014 10:03 am : link
it's a great debate as the draft nears. the giants can make an argument they need both

reese has also shown aggressiveness in the trade market during the draft. He was looking to move up for Revis and DHB and went up for Barden and Nassib. Also had a board-conditional 2nd round pick lined up for Cofield.

I can see going UP for Clowney or an O-Tackle (the price of trading up this year is down).

Or if we want Martin, we could go down, pick up an extra 2nd feeling good about Martin or Bitonio further down.

At #12 the deepest draft in years we are positioned for anything, with tons of holes and few impact players, making it the most interesting draft for the team since 2004 imo (which cooincidentally is the last time a draft was this good). we nailed that draft about as well as we possibly could. need that again.
the extra picks figure to be lesser talents
JonC : 4/24/2014 10:16 am : link
there's no rush in filling the holes in this draft, it's not a one offseason job to reload the whole roster.
I wouldn't hesitate
bob in tx : 4/24/2014 10:35 am : link
to make that trade.

Agree.
If you make the trade, what can you get?
MOOPS : 4/24/2014 11:32 am : link
We still have our own 2nd, so we'll have 3 picks in the top 43. So you'll still get one of the top TEs, you can get a top OG or C probably ready to go from day 1, a really good WR and you can get an OT like Bitonio if you want one. All in the top 50.
You'll miss out on any of the premier CBs and Donald, if he's still on the board at 12.
Kind of a tossup.
