he'll most likely have to trade up. Which is quite possible. Donald may evenbe gone by 12. It all depends on where the QBs fall. CB wouldn't be a complete surprise, however, t ome that would mean they won't resign Prince. I suspect it will be an offensive impact player.
By planet theory do you mean the George Young theory in taking the largest athlete available?
The idea being that there are very few very large men athletically capable of playing at the NFL level and they should be taken when available.
This...
Wuphat has it right. That is how Young rebuilt the old suburbanites OL in 2 years thanks to cluster drafting. By the Planet Theory, he took Eric Moore and Jumbo Elliott in 1988 and Brian Williams and Bob Kratch in 1989.
George Young took Erik Moore and let Michael Irvin go on the very next pick to Dallas.
Like Accorsi, Reese does not, or at least HAS not drafted OLs high in the first round (they finally took Pugh as a late 1). He and Accorsi generally believe in taking QBs, pass rushers, and skill positions WR/CB. The draft OLs in the mid rounds as depth, and find established starters via FA.
This is why it always cracks me up to see how many people here think it's gonna be OL at 12. It could be, but that would be totally out of character.
I know everyone wants the OL addressed as a first priority
and they might do that if a Robinson or a (ugh) Lewan slips to 12, but they're not going to take a lesser OL talent ahead of a quality skill position player. If they did, I'd be shocked. It would be very unlike them.
You can find instant-starter-quality offensive line talent in the second round this year, in my opinion.
Draft "gurus" -- both pro and amateur make the same mistake every year
When they predict a team's pick. They look at a team. Determine what THEY feel is the team's biggest need (rarely factoring in non-starters already on the roster). And then they simply map that perceived need directly to the team's highest pick.
They ignore (or are just to lazy to look at) a team's historical draft tendencies.
They ignore a team's depth chart of previously drafted players who haven't had their chance yet.
This is why you get the yearly How they gonna replace . . .

Better map that first round pick to someone at that position I think they need. Yeah. I'm a fucking genius! And I only spent 30 seconds thinking about this!
It's uncanny. It's total bullshit. It happens every year. And it's NOT how MOST teams (those who use the BPA method) draft.
On Unger to draft Sintim. He may have to change his mind but he's drafts 21 players at DB, DL, and receiver in the first 3 rounds of the draft in 7 years.
in the sense that training techniques and diet have made some into Planet theory types. Though the naturally big men with agility are still rare, their are more pumped up guys masquerading as such.. hence more injuries.
DJ Fluker is a great example of a true Planet theory player. In this draft any of Robinson, Lewan, and Matthews could fit this mold. If any is available, your theory will be tested.
Everybody says they drafted the best available player because you can't say "Oh, we thought that other guy was better, but we already had a decent guy playing that position." How could you ever compare an offensive lineman to a defensive linemane to a QB to a WR to a DB etc... anyway? It's ridiculous to say this tackle is better than this wide reciever.

2 OL. Not remotely
CB could certainly be the pick at #12, if the value is there and clearly we have several CBs potentially off the books next Winter.
I could see us drafting Gilbert, I don't think we'd pick Dennard, and it's probablly too early for Fuller.
I got that sense too. If he actually understood the term, and knew the team's drafts, he could answer the question for himself without asking us.
