With three very strong corners in DRC, Amukamara, and Thurmond, and a still relatively strong safety position with Rolle, Brown, Taylor and Demps, one thing that I am really looking forward to is this secondary challenging our Offense on a consistent basis in practice.
I think the potential benefits of this cannot be understated.
I am over-the-moon excited with McAdoo's hiring and the install of his new offense, and have grown more confident each day with news of this offense being predicated moreso on concrete routes, timing, rhythm, up-tempo, and not on unreliable variables such as body language. We will be aggressive and not reactive, which I love.
But as we know, our WR corps are still a big question mark:
Cruz: The consistent stalwart.
Randle: the great hope to evolve, but still questionable what we'll get.
Jernigan: Ditto as Randle, with hope that he will build on last few games of '13
Manningham: There's hope, but no one knows quite what to expect out of his skills and his past injuries
Holliday: The new guy, with questions on how and if he'll be utilized in the passing game
Lot's of questions marks, which has allowed much of BBI to be astute enough to realize there's definitely room for another playmaking WR through this year's draft. I am certainly all for that.
However, if nothing else, if we stay healthy I think that our WR's facing off against this secondary is going to help us develop one scrappy crew of wideouts, like the rag tag lunch pail bunches of 1986 and 1990.
I for one am excited to see this group's evolution in skill and personality as they fight against this secondary day in day out. It can't help but make us stronger, and I'm really looking forward to it.
BTW: This Holliday guy is a mystery. 4 years in the NFL and he only caught 2 passes. I would think he's penciled in as special teams only. He's a smurf at 5'5".
He could probably run right between a defender's legs.

This is a good point to bring up. I am anticipating that McAdoo will have a bunch of plays drawn up to utilize Holiday in this way, or trick / backfield and misdirection plays.
This combined with an improved return game and a solid kicking game on special teams, as well as an improved run game and o-line and a more simplified offense should allow the team to cut back on turnovers and possibly even play field position to win games.

I agree, I have been saying that people are in for a rude awakening regarding what Eli is and what he's capable. The perception of him around the league is going to change dramatically.

That's not true. Gilbride, in my opinion, saved Elis career. Eli was debated on very much so when Hufangel was our OC and first year when Gilbride was OC. There were doubts whether he would be good for not. It was in Gilbrides tenure when Eli lifted himself up and became a damn good QB.
Gilbride himself did very good things. Perhaps the most underrated thing he did was yearly come up with a new bead and butter running concept which added to our very good rushing production. Without fail, each year we had a new concept that we consistently ran.
I liked him, and respected him a lot. However, I do agree, that part of the system, I loathed big time. I still did respect him and what he did for us was great.

I didn't mean to be such an absolutist either. Gilbride did some great things that I'll forever be grateful for, but I look forward to this next offense and seeing how Eli performs in it. I think it will be a very pleasant thing to see.
You see QBs like Rivers and the fact that his overall stats are so much better than Eli's. At the same time, I feel Eli is the better QB of the 2. Why is this? The offense is the only answer I can come up with.
In any case, a lot of us will get our wish this year as we watch the brand spanking new offense. Hey, the Eagles had good success (most of the time) with their new guy (Chip Kelly), so why can't we?
Exactamundo. You and I beat this drum pretty hard last year too, I am so thankful that we may see an end to that.
Any way you slice it, the offense will have to improve dramatically for this team to have a chance at the playoffs.

I had envisioned a "shutdown" secondary with Rolle, Hill, Cromartie all pro-bowl capable and Prince maybe just an inch behind them. Throw in Thurmond and you have a top nickel corner and Brown a top dime safety. I saw JPP coming back as a beast and DT Donald falling to #12 and providing us with rookie interior pass rush.
Alas, Hill is very likely done as a Giant. Maybe we'll get lucky and he will serve a six game suspension and the Giants will take a chance on keeping him. But it doesn't help for the first six games and this is "best case scenario" as far as I am concerned. The appeals process is a formality where maybe mercy can be found (six games as compared to eight or the season) but I'm not sure the Giants have any mercy left in them with Hill.
Lets just hope the guys we have say healthy.
