Doubront was noticeably improved in his last start
WeatherMan : 4/24/2014 5:48 pm : link
time to see if he can build on that.
he seems to be building
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 6:12 pm : link
wonder what he's got in the mortar...
it's all about consistency in his delivery
WeatherMan : 4/24/2014 6:17 pm : link
they had him on a highly structured offseason program this year, as last spring he showed up 20 pounds heavy and it sure as shit wasn't muscle. 6.2 of 2 run ball with 7 Ks to 2 BBs last time against the O's, the first start of his 4 this year where he was able to get the strikeouts going.
Should get a win
BillyBoy8384 : 4/24/2014 6:59 pm : link
If CC shows up and pitches his game we shouldnt be worried.

As I said earlier, Almost every pitcher who made a name for himself has used pine tar. Catchers usually put it on there leg guards and put some on the ball when they throw it back. My cousin was a Major League catcher for the Phils. Look at Lester last year. 2 obvious times he was using it. Bucholtz made a name for himself using it. I bet during October ball when it is cold almost every starter in the playoffs uses it if its cold out.

Why Pineda put it on his neck for the world to see knowing the sawx would be all over him looking for it is beyond me. All he had to was tell McCann to put some under his leg pad and it would have gone unnoticed like it does everytime a pitcher pitches in the cold.
Like the famous saying goes

Its not cheating when everybody does it . Kind of like HGH in the NFL.

we'll see if he gets a fourth inning.
Yanks get an unearned run.

that was a hot shot right at him, hope he's alright. Held it to one run, time to welcome back the Flyin' Hawaiian.

First from deep short.
well, you guys got what you've been asking for
WeatherMan : 4/24/2014 7:30 pm : link
wasn't intentional but Papi got plunked
well, some of you got what you wanted.
Del Shofner : 4/24/2014 7:30 pm : link
CC plunks Ortiz. Not intended, an 0-2 pitch.
That's...umm...a shame...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 7:30 pm : link
he didn't mean to, not on an 0-2 count, but I'm not going to weep over it.
I love Leiter's enthusiasm
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 7:30 pm : link
but CC isn't going to dominate for more than a few innings at a time. He is looking more like Leiter every time.

Now that he plunked Ortiz however he has become my hero.
lol WM

Nicholas Flammia ‏@TYRadioGuy 1m

33 pitch outing for Manny Banuelos. He has yet to pitch more than 3 innings in an outing with the @TampaYankees. Radar gun showed 94 mph.
Doubront keeps grabbing his jock

is @SS. It is going to make it way too dangerous for middle infielders.
what in the hell is with the defense again tonight

4-0

CC needs to find that groove.

Walking Gomes isn't groovy.
so far
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 8:09 pm : link
both pitchers have two walks, CC hit Ortiz and Doubront has chucked multiple pitches into the dirt.

Welcome to the world of pitchers without stuff.
Nice recovery by CC...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 8:09 pm : link
good stuff.
Thank heaven for MLB Network...

officially Kay's worst HR call of all time.
Nice play by the elf...

McCann got robbed.
Doubront
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 8:15 pm : link
should have used rosin. He'd have had that grounder by Gardner.
Nice of the Yanks to give CC a cushion

great, great outing for Caleb Smith. Could really turn into a surprise lefty starting prospect.
we sure could use another solid
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 8:51 pm : link
LHP prospect.
and CC plunks Bradley
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 9:01 pm : link
wonder why.
We've got a few...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 9:04 pm : link
Banuelos, Matt Tracy, Turley, Camarena and then Clarkin who could be the best of the bunch. But Smith fits in there somewhere.
yes but
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 9:08 pm : link
Banuelos - injuries - holding my breath
Tracy - kinda Phelpsy no?
Camarena - raw?
Clarkin - young and a few years off

It's not like we have anyone ready to challenge for a rotation spot next year. I'll pray Banuelos can stay healthy.
Tracy has a decent ceiling....
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 9:24 pm : link
maybe even a 3. Injury issues though.

Camarena is really polished, superb command, locates four pitches. His problem is that his FB tops out at 88 or 89 most games. If he could add a couple ticks he's be a legit front of the rotation type, but he just throws too damned slow.
over-under on Venditte
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 9:27 pm : link
ever sniffing the majors? I know he has had some injury issues but I figured someone would have given him a looksee.

Nice double by Beltran.
Not with the Yankees...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 9:32 pm : link
he's nothing special, but there are probably worse relievers kicking around the majors. For whatever reason though it doesn't seem like the Yanks are going to give him a shot.
CC has gotten sharper the last few innings
RasputinPrime : 4/24/2014 9:35 pm : link
two questions:

Is Judge playing OF or 1B so far this year?

Katoh or Avelino?
The Tampa announcer...
Dunedin81 : 4/24/2014 9:38 pm : link
says he thinks Camarena was around 91 or 92 yesterday. If that's true it could be big.

Avelino much more than Katoh, Katoh has been overmatched this year and even though Katoh is fast (and starting to steal bases) shortstop is still the premier defensive position on the infield, catcher excepted.
