Per Ralph: Giants very high on Evans

Brandon Walsh : 4/24/2014 10:12 pm

So who does Cruz think the Giants should select? He tabbed Texas A& M wide receiver Mike Evans as the ideal candidate to fill that outside role. He’s not the only one either. Several sources have told the Daily News recently that Evans, a 6-5, 225-pounder, is up near the top of the Giants’ draft board and a player they very seriously have their eye on at No. 12.

Ralph is normally spot on when it comes to the Giants 1st round draft pick. I still don't think Evans gets past Tampa, Buffalo, and Detroit .

Some actual rumors opposed to speculation two weeks out. Nice to see

I'd be fine with this
Tyrion : 4/24/2014 10:15 pm : link
I just don't think he there at 12.
Interesting
NewYorkGiants : 4/24/2014 10:16 pm : link
I think he goes 7 to bucs or 8 to the bills.

If they want him they will have to jump up and if u are trading up for the receiver why not jump up the possible extra spot and go for Watkins

I believe Watkins is already the better receiver and has more potential
In other news the sky is blue
robbieballs2003 : 4/24/2014 10:16 pm : link
The only way I see Evans available when the Giants pick is is there are off the field concerns with him which includes medical reasons. Otherwise, there are too many teams that could use a big target that attacks the ball. I also don't think Watkins goes below three overall. That means there are a lot of teams that would be interested in Evans before he gets to 12.
Randle doesn't seem
bceagle05 : 4/24/2014 10:17 pm : link
to have too many allies these days.
I've kind of settled into
BigBlueBuff : 4/24/2014 10:17 pm : link
wanting one of Evans, Donald, or Mosley with one of Lewan or Jernigan as disappointing back up plans.
I am sure
AnishPatel : 4/24/2014 10:18 pm : link
we are high on him as well as others. I don't see this as news. But hey, at least it's Evans, and not Aaron Donald. Can you imagine the crazi..eerr cult members if his name was there?
If Watkins makes it to 5 where the raiders are
NewYorkGiants : 4/24/2014 10:21 pm : link
I'd make a move to try and get Watkins

If not then stay at 12 and if u want a WR draft Odell beckham jr

You don't see it as news as this is the first report from a reporter that covers the team where the Giants are high on someone from actual sources opposed to the speculation we have seen the past month with no insight? Ok then.
When did Donald

Giants high on several players ranked very high in the draft.. I mean really.. thats not news Ralph..
so if they select evans or watkins
japanhead : 4/24/2014 10:34 pm : link
can we infer randle is another busted reese pick, or that the giants simply see him as a number 3-4 one contract type receiver?
This story is just not true. It must be Ralph just guessing.
Jimmy Googs : 4/24/2014 10:38 pm : link
Remember BBI is convinced there is no upside, whatsoever, of letting other teams know what you generally think about a position or a player prior to the Draft.
Or maybe it has nothing to do with Randle
Blue Blood : 4/24/2014 10:40 pm : link
you remember a few years ago when we won a Superbowl..when the Giants had three playmaking WR's in Nicks, Cruz and Mario.... and they had a decent TE in Ballard...

remember when they had a trio of receivers with Toomer, Burress and Steve Smith.. and they had a decent TE in Boss.. and they won a Superbowl..

you think that MAYBE they are trying to get a good trio again with Cruz.. Randle and another receiver.. i mean unless your putting all your eggs into the Jernigan basket.. and the Mario coming off two bad years and a knee surgery..

I mean its not like teams use 3 wides as almost a standard formation in a passing league or anything nowadays...

Why is it that other passing teams like Green Bay and the Saints can be 3 and 4 deep at receiver.. yet the Giants fans apparent can only see TWO..
If we select him
Mike in NY : 4/24/2014 10:40 pm : link
I really pray the Giants know what they are doing, because watching games like Missouri and Duke he was too easily neutralized by vanilla college D's. Against pro DB's that will be an issue
hey Ralphs
Blue Blood : 4/24/2014 10:41 pm : link
Giants are probably high on Watkins.. and Clowney.. and Robinson.. and Matthews.. and Ebron.. heck Reese and Ross were at Ebron's pro day.. probably high on Mack too.. probably pretty high on ANYONE in the top 15..
Ralph generally is pretty clued in to who the Giants have interest in,
Riggies : 4/24/2014 10:41 pm : link
around this time of year.

I don't doubt for a second they're highly interested in Evans. I just doubt he'll A) be there when they pick B) they won't be even more interested in someone else.

Yup and then there were those games against teams like Auburn and Alabama where he destroyed them.. so go figure..
I dont doubt that they ARENT high on a player

who is going to be in the top 10-15.. thats not earth shattering news to me especially when we already know they interviewed him at the combine.. I mean really.. thats not saying much..

Oh, Lord.

OK, Jim. What do you think might be the upside, any whatsoever, to the Giants releasing information about sincere interest in Mike Evans?

be fine with the Giants taking Evans at #12. I would not be fine with them trading up to get him. You have to hope he goes high enough so that it would be too expensive for the Giants to move up.

All I'm saying about Randle
bceagle05 : 4/24/2014 11:06 pm : link
is that Cruz's quote about Evans possibly "lighting a fire under the young WRs" isn't exactly an endorsement of them. I'm guessing Randle was the main target. Reese and Gilbride have fired similar shots in his direction.

To be fair, Alabama had awful corners last fall. Auburn's weren't all world either. I don't like Evans at 12. Give me Mosley, I see multiple pro-bowls in his future.

except for all the injuries and surgeries he has already had.. nope.. pass.. and im not an Evans fan... the reality is you can find any player in this draft and find good games and bad games..

Yep, that means Randle is a bust. Just like if Detroit picked either of those guys, then Megatron's days are over.
I smell misinformation
mfsd : 4/24/2014 11:25 pm : link
they Giants may well like Evans, but I doubt there are "several" sources that are in the know and all talking to Ralph about it

Giants have been pretty tight-lipped about the draft under Reese (did any sources predict Pugh last year?)

I think agents and teams plant a lot of this stuff to try and promote their guys, or hide who they really like

The injuries are disconcerting. A dislocated Elbow, and hip, as well as a torn labrum. However, He hasn't missed a start the past two seasons, and has showed out in probably the most advance, NFL scheme style defense in CFB. I love his upside, work ethic, and instincts. He's also a good dude. I am extremely biased though, as I am a student at Alabama.
So lets get this straight
Blue Blood : 4/24/2014 11:34 pm : link
Green Bay had Jennings and James Jones.. and Jordy Nelson.. AND Cobb..

Denver Had Julio and Demarius Thomas.. and Decker..AND Welker..

But the Giants should be fine with Cruz and Randle.. we shouldnt try and replace Nicks.. nooooooo that would be stupid..

God forbid we have a triple threat...

settled for his second option at WR in the draft it worked out brilliantly (smith, nicks).. would've otherwise selected heyward-bey and jarrett iirc.
I think he'd be an excellent pick
SB : 4/25/2014 12:13 am : link
. There are a lot of excellent players that should be available at 12, and we unfortunately have lots of needs.
Blue blood
jc in c-ville : 4/25/2014 1:39 am : link
Those triple threats amounted to what?

Last time I checked, Randle was a steal where we drafted him. Last time I checked, last year is no indication to the progress of Randle- see shit season.

Folks, I truly hope a WR/TE is not our choice at #12.

Re-watch the games from last year.
I've warmed up to him
Neverend : 4/25/2014 2:14 am : link
is he the quickest and most explosive guy in and out of his breaks? nah. is he going to light it up when it comes to yards after the catch? probably never save for some broken tackles. But he can make contested catches, has a ridiculous catching radius, and is the best WR in this draft (From the top tier) at high pointing the ball, which is a MAJOR necessary trait. He'll be very productive in this league just based on that ability alone. Guys like Marquise lee and sometimes even odell becham can be inconsistent in that area.
I like Evans a lot too, but there's no chance he drops to them
Shockeyisthebest80 : 4/25/2014 3:01 am : link
and I really don't think they need to draft a WR this high (or at all). They need to get more out of the people they already have. Plus, they're not in a position where they can afford to trade picks to move up for Evans.

They need an OL and a TE. They absolutely need to take players at those positions in two of the first 3 rounds.

i figured Tampa at 7 is a lock for Evans....no way we move up that far
George from PA : 4/25/2014 6:10 am : link
maybe we give Buffalo Nassib and swap to 8

Dan in the Springs : 4/25/2014 6:22 am : link
I was really high on Evans, and was hoping he was our pick. Most mocks had him available at 12. There was great debate on whether he was worth #12.

Now there is no way he makes it to 12?

I think there is a good chance that he makes it and that he is our pick, even though he no longer is my favorite at that spot.
Of course they are "high" on him. He is a top player
ZogZerg : 4/25/2014 6:54 am : link
at a position of need for the Giants. It's not too hard to figure out who the Giants are "high on".

I think they have all been covered pretty well on BBI.

AcidTest : 4/25/2014 8:21 am : link
would honestly rather trade down and take Latimer, than trade up to get Evans, or even take Evans at #12. If Latimer's foot has healed, he looks like a bigger, stronger, faster, version of Nicks. What's not to like?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Victor in CT : 4/25/2014 8:30 am : link
He doesn't get separation. His big plays come from broken plays. He will need to run precise routes in this offense. Give me some beef up front please.
