How teams fared after appearing on HBO's "Hard Knocks":
Year Team Record

2002 Cowboys 5-11
2007 Chiefs 4-12
2008 Cowboys 9-7
2009 *Bengals 10-6
2010 *Jets 11-5

It would be an external distraction. Something the players have to answer on their down time. But the actual work at camp would be undisturbed. There would be no intrusion to that work.
I read an article around the time Steve Sabol died, emphasizing just how important this show was to him. He tried for YEARS to have a show that got behind the curtain during training camp. I agree that it's gotten a little redundant, but it's still NFL Films and it's still the Giants. It's five or six extra hours of Giants programming this summer.
And as others have pointed out, everyone will do it at some point. Might as well get it over with now.
is an interesting year with a new offense and such. I hope we get it. I want to see how Coughlin does things. He may not be here too much longer, so it would be great to see an inside access to how he coaches and how we do things.
I hope we get it.
RE: RE: I don't have HBO anymore and won't get it to watch this Â
Frankly I don't know how the show's formula remains interesting when it's been the same for years now.
Coaches are going to discuss cut decisions and yell at players who blow assignments. Players will laugh and make goofy jokes and make rookies sing their college fight song. There will be fights at practice. There will be a Cinderella story who ends up getting cut at the last moment. Some vet will give it "one more shot" and share a tender moment with his wife and family.
But you don't want to see Abby in the latest fall fashion seeing Eli off to camp?
I can't imagine a more boring show. And on top of that, I don't care for showing guys as they get cut. Really lame.
With Terps here on this one. The show is just boring to me. I haven't watched more than an episode (and only parts of that) since the thing has been running. I don't have HBO either anymore, nor would I get it for this, but if the Giants were selected I MIGHT be more interested... but I really doubt I'd be there for every show or DVRing it.
I just don't think the decision should be taken away from franchises whether or not it's right for them. Camp is important, and I think that team's should have the ultimate power to decide what goes on at camp.
"Get THAT camera outta here!! You wanna tell the entire country what plays we run?"
To me, this sucks...it's an unnecessary distraction. Imagine filmmakers shoving a camera in your face while you were at work....showing everybody what mistakes you made, etc etc.
I hate it....
I hope Coughlin finds some passive aggressive way to completely thwart all of their efforts....
4 have made the playoffs, including 3 of the last 4. The furthest a team has made it in the playoffs are the 2010 Jets who lost in the AFC Championship to the Steelers.
have apparently volunteered, or at least shown interest, but the league is still going to force a team. Maybe all the interested teams have done it before, and the league wants to rotate it, but it's annoying to force a team that's not interested (which is all 3 finalists), when someone else is happy to step up.
Quote:
“There were a lot of discussions with clubs at the March meeting [in Orlando, Fla.],” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said during the Associated Press Sports Editors meetings in New York on Thursday. “There are several clubs that are interested in doing this. I just don’t have an update on which club, whether it’s going to be a volunteer or if it’s somebody who is going to have to fulfill the obligation. But I’m sure that decision will be made pretty soon.”
I don't get the hate for this. Can anyone point to one team where Hard Knocks was such a huge distraction that it negatively impacted the team?
I agree completely. I actually feel like I know exactly what we'd get from TC (class, grace, professionalism, humility). But wouldn't it be great to see PF and the D? Who doesn't want to see Trel being Trel? And it would be awesome to see Eli working with McAdoo. I will definitely watch this show.
but I don't think Coughlin/Mara are the kind of coach/owner duo who would want this kind of attention. Playing in NY is a distraction in itself, no need to bring cameras around to film an actual TV show. This is an important year for the Franchise with the firing of Gilbride and the new offense being implemented. That's all I want our players to be focused on.
hope the Giants are on it. It would be fun to watch and is not a big deal at all as far as distractions to the teams go. I don't think there is anything that would hurt our season by being on this show.
That's an even bigger distraction than just doing it...

Yes, and I don't think it impacts our team all that much. With all the new faces, might help them gel
I hope we get it.

I had the same thought. I doubt they'd set up shop for an extra week.

I wouldn't mind seeing Abby in a lot of things, but "fall fashion" isn't among them.
If that was a concern for them, I imagine they wouldn't have included the Giants in the last round of finalists in the first place.

I know this thinking isn't popular but I blame fantasy football.
This is why we get football on Thursdays, corny lead-in music/theatrical performances and such...

We might finally get an answer to some of our questions about the inner workings of our beloved organization.
