I want the Giants to get it. That is so much additional TV enjoyment time for us as Giants fans. Thats like a couple of extra games. Coughlin would be spectacular.
I'd love to see the inner workings of a Coughlin training camp. Who cares if the organization doesn't want it. We were putrid last year without it, so why does it matter?
RE: I don't think it would have much of an affect on the way they conduct
if you don't want to participate in the spectacle it shouldn't be mandated. It really doesn't mesh with the Giants culture and the values they are trying to instill in their teams.
...sure. But, this is the last thing I would want to happen. An NFL team should be focused on football and nothing else. This would be an unwelcome distraction that would compound with our implementing a new offense and working with a high turnover roster.
This would do nothing to help the Giants prepare for the season.
If the team doesn't want it, I just as soon they not be on it,

The fact that it can be forced on a team is absurd.
Frankly I don't know how the show's formula remains interesting when it's been the same for years now.
Coaches are going to discuss cut decisions and yell at players who blow assignments. Players will laugh and make goofy jokes and make rookies sing their college fight song. There will be fights at practice. There will be a Cinderella story who ends up getting cut at the last moment. Some vet will give it "one more shot" and share a tender moment with his wife and family.
on top of all the new players, new offense, new coaches, extra pre-season game....and, to top it all off, coming off one of the ugliest seasons in recent memory.
Of course, these are exactly the reasons why it will happen...too bad. I'll watch of course but really don't like the idea.
if you notice the three organizations they picked, they are the three most respected franchises in football.
obviously Hard Knocks is making a conscious effort to take this show from Clown School (Jets, Cowboys) to Ivy League. But.. that being said, no thanks =)
and that is exactly why they put this policy in place. To force this garbage on the well run teams that want nothing to do with it, as opposed to just showing the same circus teams over and over.

But you don't want to see Abby in the latest fall fashion seeing Eli off to camp?
I can't imagine a more boring show. And on top of that, I don't care for showing guys as they get cut. Really lame.
focusing in on bubble players anyway. Otherwise, it's mostly highlights of practices and pre-season games, with cameras peaking in on the meeting rooms. I just wish they didn't show guys getting cut. It's already a low point in their lives - do we have to let the whole country see it?
How teams fared after appearing on HBO's "Hard Knocks":
Year Team Record
2001 *Ravens 10-6
2002 Cowboys 5-11
2007 Chiefs 4-12
2008 Cowboys 9-7
2009 *Bengals 10-6
2010 *Jets 11-5

It would be an external distraction. Something the players have to answer on their down time. But the actual work at camp would be undisturbed. There would be no intrusion to that work.
I read an article around the time Steve Sabol died, emphasizing just how important this show was to him. He tried for YEARS to have a show that got behind the curtain during training camp. I agree that it's gotten a little redundant, but it's still NFL Films and it's still the Giants. It's five or six extra hours of Giants programming this summer.
And as others have pointed out, everyone will do it at some point. Might as well get it over with now.
is an interesting year with a new offense and such. I hope we get it. I want to see how Coughlin does things. He may not be here too much longer, so it would be great to see an inside access to how he coaches and how we do things.
I hope we get it.

With Terps here on this one. The show is just boring to me. I haven't watched more than an episode (and only parts of that) since the thing has been running. I don't have HBO either anymore, nor would I get it for this, but if the Giants were selected I MIGHT be more interested... but I really doubt I'd be there for every show or DVRing it.
I just don't think the decision should be taken away from franchises whether or not it's right for them. Camp is important, and I think that team's should have the ultimate power to decide what goes on at camp.
And personally, I'd love to see it.

agree 100%. it will be a slight annoyance, won't have a meaningful impact on the season and it will be tremendous television.

I don't get the hate for this. Can anyone point to one team where Hard Knocks was such a huge distraction that it negatively impacted the team?
ha! again, i think listening to Liev Schreiber pontificate about why Coughlin is so angry would be outstanding television. bring it on!

hard to say. most of the teams that have been on hard knocks were awful to begin with.

"hey look.. if the GIANTS can do it, we can too!"
That's an even bigger distraction than just doing it...

@mikefreemannfl: NFL's Greg Aiello on report that Bears, Giants, Steelers are finalists for Hard Knocks: "totally inaccurate."
And as others have pointed out, everyone will do it at some point. Might as well get it over with now.
Yes, and I don't think it impacts our team all that much. With all the new faces, might help them gel
I hope we get it.
