Along with the Bears and Steelers, according to twitter.

fuck the NFL and their stupid reality show bullshit
Greg from LI : 4/29/2014 12:11 pm : link
Go bother the Bears and leave us alone.
Agree with Greg.
Britt in VA : 4/29/2014 12:13 pm : link
If they don't want it, why force it? That's bullshit.
I don't think it would have much of an affect on the way they conduct
J Dot : 4/29/2014 12:13 pm : link
business.

And personally, I'd love to see it.
Beacuase they know
Antdog23 : 4/29/2014 12:14 pm : link
a pissed off and annoyed Tom Coughlin will garner the highest ratings the show has ever seen.
i don't want it to happen
Sir-Yes-Sir : 4/29/2014 12:15 pm : link
but if it does, I'll watch every episode, and we would all really learn a lot about our team
Are you kidding.
FatHeadTommy : 4/29/2014 12:15 pm : link
I want the Giants to get it. That is so much additional TV enjoyment time for us as Giants fans. Thats like a couple of extra games. Coughlin would be spectacular.
Lighten Up Guys
dontboobigblue : 4/29/2014 12:15 pm : link
What's the big deal? You wont enjoy an awesome show being centered around your NFL team?

that's how I feel as well
RodneyHamp : 4/29/2014 12:16 pm : link
keep the circus away, but I would love to watch it.
I would totally love it if it happened and also be relieved if it does
BeerFridge : 4/29/2014 12:16 pm : link
not.
I care about the games
Greg from LI : 4/29/2014 12:17 pm : link
Not a bunch of hokey manufactured drama.
Agree with the last 2 posts
aimrocky : 4/29/2014 12:17 pm : link
I'd love to see the inner workings of a Coughlin training camp. Who cares if the organization doesn't want it. We were putrid last year without it, so why does it matter?

agree 100%. it will be a slight annoyance, won't have a meaningful impact on the season and it will be tremendous television.
The bottomline is it shouldn't be forced on an organization
raever : 4/29/2014 12:18 pm : link
if you don't want to participate in the spectacle it shouldn't be mandated. It really doesn't mesh with the Giants culture and the values they are trying to instill in their teams.
keep that crap out of camp
Sneakers O'toole : 4/29/2014 12:18 pm : link
.
I'd just as soon...
Chris in Philly : 4/29/2014 12:18 pm : link
get it over with now and not have to worry about it again. And I'll watch every second of it multiple times.
I'd love it.
bceagle05 : 4/29/2014 12:18 pm : link
It's a good show and we'd all watch every second of it. Hope we get the nod.
Would I watch...
rocco8112 : 4/29/2014 12:18 pm : link
...sure. But, this is the last thing I would want to happen. An NFL team should be focused on football and nothing else. This would be an unwelcome distraction that would compound with our implementing a new offense and working with a high turnover roster.

This would do nothing to help the Giants prepare for the season.
If the team doesn't want it, I just as soon they not be on it,
Mad Mike : 4/29/2014 12:19 pm : link
but I don't think it really impacts anything. Coughlin would certainly grouse about it.
On one hand,
kmed : 4/29/2014 12:19 pm : link
I know the Giants dont want it and I trust their reasons why, but on the other hand, I'd love to watch it.

The fact that it can be forced on a team is absurd.
I love Giants
winoguy : 4/29/2014 12:21 pm : link
football. Giants soap operas not so much.
I don't have HBO anymore and won't get it to watch this
rsjem1979 : 4/29/2014 12:21 pm : link
Frankly I don't know how the show's formula remains interesting when it's been the same for years now.

Coaches are going to discuss cut decisions and yell at players who blow assignments. Players will laugh and make goofy jokes and make rookies sing their college fight song. There will be fights at practice. There will be a Cinderella story who ends up getting cut at the last moment. Some vet will give it "one more shot" and share a tender moment with his wife and family.

If the Giants were chosen
Sneakers O'toole : 4/29/2014 12:21 pm : link
I'd love to see them decide not to cooperate.
There's an easy way around this
Go Terps : 4/29/2014 12:22 pm : link
Just be a shitty interview. Can the NFL fine you if you just give one word answers?
Mara should just bar the camera crews
Sneakers O'toole : 4/29/2014 12:23 pm : link
from camp. Just refuse access and take the league on.
The Giants don't need this....
Wonderphil11 : 4/29/2014 12:24 pm : link
on top of all the new players, new offense, new coaches, extra pre-season game....and, to top it all off, coming off one of the ugliest seasons in recent memory.

Of course, these are exactly the reasons why it will happen...too bad. I'll watch of course but really don't like the idea.
wow
feelflows : 4/29/2014 12:24 pm : link
if you notice the three organizations they picked, they are the three most respected franchises in football.

obviously Hard Knocks is making a conscious effort to take this show from Clown School (Jets, Cowboys) to Ivy League. But.. that being said, no thanks =)
Camp Coughlin in HBO Prime Time?

Sign. Me. Up.

I don't get the hate for this. Can anyone point to one team where Hard Knocks was such a huge distraction that it negatively impacted the team?
I would love to see that
lester : 4/29/2014 12:25 pm : link
and the show mostly centers around the coaches and how the rookies adjust to the NFL and how the UDFA work hard to make the cut.

ha! again, i think listening to Liev Schreiber pontificate about why Coughlin is so angry would be outstanding television. bring it on!
feelflows
Sneakers O'toole : 4/29/2014 12:26 pm : link
and that is exactly why they put this policy in place. To force this garbage on the well run teams that want nothing to do with it, as opposed to just showing the same circus teams over and over.
Rangers had a pretty good year
teamschlitz : 4/29/2014 12:26 pm : link
Despite the weeks of 24/7 cameras in the lockerroom, in the middle of the season nonetheless.

hard to say. most of the teams that have been on hard knocks were awful to begin with.

But you don't want to see Abby in the latest fall fashion seeing Eli off to camp?

I can't imagine a more boring show. And on top of that, I don't care for showing guys as they get cut. Really lame.
yep
feelflows : 4/29/2014 12:27 pm : link
and I'm sure after one year of a real team doing it, they're hoping that other teams won't be hesitant

"hey look.. if the GIANTS can do it, we can too!"
Also, every team is going to have to do it
Ben in Tampa : 4/29/2014 12:27 pm : link
With the new rule, so why not get it out of the way now and not have to worry about it for another 31 years?
Nice! Hope we get on!
Mike in Long Beach : 4/29/2014 12:27 pm : link
Because... you know... I'm not a weirdo.
The show spends most of its time
bceagle05 : 4/29/2014 12:27 pm : link
focusing in on bubble players anyway. Otherwise, it's mostly highlights of practices and pre-season games, with cameras peaking in on the meeting rooms. I just wish they didn't show guys getting cut. It's already a low point in their lives - do we have to let the whole country see it?

If they have an ounce of sense, they'll decide to annoy someone else.
the show really is pointless
Greg from LI : 4/29/2014 12:29 pm : link
As a one-time special? Sure, but it's pretty much the same thing every year just with different teams. It's as predictable as can be.
here are the post hard knocks results - up to 2010

It would be an external distraction. Something the players have to answer on their down time. But the actual work at camp would be undisturbed. There would be no intrusion to that work.
Settle down...

@mikefreemannfl: NFL's Greg Aiello on report that Bears, Giants, Steelers are finalists for Hard Knocks: "totally inaccurate."
Just as an aside
bceagle05 : 4/29/2014 12:33 pm : link
I read an article around the time Steve Sabol died, emphasizing just how important this show was to him. He tried for YEARS to have a show that got behind the curtain during training camp. I agree that it's gotten a little redundant, but it's still NFL Films and it's still the Giants. It's five or six extra hours of Giants programming this summer.

And as others have pointed out, everyone will do it at some point. Might as well get it over with now.

This year
AnishPatel : 4/29/2014 12:36 pm : link
is an interesting year with a new offense and such. I hope we get it. I want to see how Coughlin does things. He may not be here too much longer, so it would be great to see an inside access to how he coaches and how we do things.

I hope we get it.

With Terps here on this one. The show is just boring to me. I haven't watched more than an episode (and only parts of that) since the thing has been running. I don't have HBO either anymore, nor would I get it for this, but if the Giants were selected I MIGHT be more interested... but I really doubt I'd be there for every show or DVRing it.
I think the show itself is a decent show
Sneakers O'toole : 4/29/2014 12:36 pm : link
I just don't think the decision should be taken away from franchises whether or not it's right for them. Camp is important, and I think that team's should have the ultimate power to decide what goes on at camp.
