The short version ...

-- Their dream pick is Texas A& M WR Mike Evans. Their second choice would be Michigan T Taylor Lewan. They do not think either player will still be there at 12 and have no plans to trade up.

-- They expect their choice to come down to LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr. or Notre Dame OL Zack Martin and I believe Beckum is the player that most of the people in their draft room prefer.

-- They have no interest in North Carolina TE Eric Ebron.

-- There are defensive players they like, but they are expected to go offense in Round 1 unless all their options are gone.

-- I wouldn't completely rule out a trade down, but I don't expect it to happen. They don't seem to love their choices at 12, though, so if the offer is right anything is possible.

-- A big no on the rumor that they're thinking about QB Johnny Manziel.
I just don't

Both are needs and will help fix the "broken offense".
I think I'd grab Beckham at 12 and go OL in rd 2

Beckham somehow goes before 12 and we get Zack Mart
I just don't buy the OBJ interest...
Dan in the Springs : 5/8/2014 7:26 pm : link
for reasons given in the other RV/OBJ thread.

Remember how many times we've been warned about gamesmanship as we get closer to the draft? Why should we suddenly expect that with mere minutes to go before the draft starts the Giants are letting loose with their true intentions to a reporter, of all people?
.....

I can't get be my head around the Giants drafting Beckum. Doesn't seem logical to me if they are going BPA.

i think most of us expect the exact opposite. if these are the names being leaked to Ralph at this point in the process, then they're most likely a smoke screen.

the Giants were no where near as good as their record. Backup QB's and 3rd string QB's got them at least 2 more wins

The rape comments on Lewan are soooooooo tired, get over it man. He's a young kid that's made immature type mistakes, but he didn't rape anyone nor was he the accused person. I get that he has some concerns, but he is a tremendous talent and will make our team better. Be a great pick IMO

Giants are talking up Beckham hoping a team will trade up to take him making it more likely Lewan will last till 12.

Martin will be taken if he's available and Lewan is not.

Im watching the NFL Draft Fashion Show right now and Cyrus looked confused at the concept of going to the second row down. It was troubling.

One or 2 more predictions by RV
BlueLou : 5/8/2014 7:46 pm : link
And the odds of "nailing" the pick at 12 with one of those predictions will be at 50% by pure chance.

Completely down with Lewan or Martin at 12 so long as the FO doesn't think Lewan is some kinda psycho.
I have reservations about Beckham at 12
chris r : 5/8/2014 7:49 pm : link
He's smallish, frailish, and doesn't have real elite speed.

I think Greg Jennings is a good comparison for his upside, but of course he's no sure thing to achieve that and maybe more likely will be a very good number 2 caliber WR. I think you aim higher at 12.
I want no part

That's what I've been saying and if that's true the guy not being mentioned in the media is Donald. He may well be gone but if he isn't...
Cyrus
Marty866b : 5/8/2014 7:50 pm : link
Does have knee concerns. Some teams believe you are going to have to limit practice time with him to manage his knee. Pass in the 1st round, please.
I'm warming up to the idea
bc4life : 5/8/2014 7:52 pm : link
of Mike Evans in Round 1, although I'd prefer Martin or Lewan.
Cyrus
Sammo284 : 5/8/2014 7:55 pm : link
is not a huge risk as a player, but he is a reach at 12 considering the injury issue. But he is a risk if you view OT picks as guys you want to slot in as 8-10 yr starters.

He might only be relied on for a shorter career span if that knee becomes chronic/arthritic. That's the issue with his knee.

I think guys like Bitonio/Moses/Kouandjio make sense at 43.

If we can take Martin at 12, I think we go Amaro or perhaps a WR if one is still available (Lee, Matthews?).

Eli tends to miss high with his throws. I kind of doubt we're using a #1 on a sub-6'0 WR. The interest in Evans makes a lot more sense.
Eli
Sammo284 : 5/8/2014 8:00 pm : link
is going to have cut the nonsense with his throws being too high and preferring taller receivers.

He has to change, especially in the kind of offensive changes that McAdoo is likely to integrate.

bc4life : 5/8/2014 8:04 pm : link
but as bad as the oline was last year, and as unsettled as it still is - you have a shot a Lewan or Martin and you take a wr?
If we went for Beckham I'd be content with it.
yatqb : 5/8/2014 8:04 pm : link
Clearly if they take him they see him as a game-changing WR, a #1 who would complement Cruz. I'd trust their view in that case. What I want in round 1 is an impact player...Donald, an OL or a WR all can fit that description.

His size doesn't concern me. The only thing that would disappoint me is that there's enough depth at WR that we could likely get a very solid one at 43.

He does okay throwing to cruz.
did ralph have our pick last year?
CGiants07 : 5/8/2014 8:09 pm : link
I don't think so but am not positive.I am leaning towards hoping for trade down a few spots so someone can jump st Louis at 13 for a player they think st Louis is interested in
Ralph
Sammo284 : 5/8/2014 8:10 pm : link
has actually missed quite a bit the last few years.
not one person i really want in this draft
CGiants07 : 5/8/2014 8:10 pm : link
unless we are trading up to 3 for Watkins
Keeping my fingers crossed for Evans, however unlikely
j_rud : 5/8/2014 8:58 pm : link
But you never know how the draft will play out. It's no secret Chip Kelly is in love with him and if he starts to slip I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move. He's aggressive by nature, I expect that to carry over to the draft.

Still, what a beast to pair opposite Cruz...pretty sure it just moved...
You have to hope for either Lewan or Donald
SGMen : 5/8/2014 9:19 pm : link
I still think Donald will be an interior situational pass rusher extra-ordinaire. He is strong and quick and will give Offensive Lineman fits if worked in right.

However, given Eli is our MVP and key player, we may likely take OL Lewan. I think he beats out Beatty who ends up working his way into health and backing up this year.

I love Martin but if Lewan is there you take the huge tackle and don't look back.

Best scenario: someone calls us for Manziel.
Looks like Ralph was spot on with this one

draft rolls around.

He may not always nail the exact pick right in his mocks or whatnot, but he's almost always on to where the Giants' interests lie and, especially considering all the crap he gets otherwise (much of it deserved at times), he deserves credit for that.
