I don't see safety from what little I've read
chris r : 5/10/2014 4:20 pm : link
He looks to have CB athletic ability, isn't huge and isn't know as a great tackler.
Of all our picks, he is the one that is the most developmental based

the above scouting report:

"BOTTOM LINE Looks the part and has developmental value given his athleticism and desirable makeup, but did not take a significant step forward as a senior. Has traits to contribute initially on special teams while he works on becoming a more well-rounded cornerback."

Well the Practice Squad needs a captain, too. I'm guessing that is where he will be in the absence of a host of injuries.
We may have more leaders on our

practice squad than any team in the league

Oh..wait, I don't know any of these guys we've drafted after OBJ...disregard.

Then it should have been the round after that!

Well since the Giants don't have a pick later, then perhaps they identified him as a player they wanted to have?
he and Behre have a big uphill climb to make this roster
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:24 pm : link
.
he has CB AA
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:26 pm : link
but seems to lack pro cover skills, this often gets a prospect looks at FS.
I think he's a future safety
BigBlueBuff : 5/10/2014 4:26 pm : link
and not a present CB.
Interesting way to phrase it

Not if Will Hill isn't on the roster.
I'm a ND fan
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:27 pm : link
he doesn't always track the ball well. He's going to need some work. He has talent though, and although he isn't the biggest guy on the field he's more than willing to mix it up.
Neither one if going to beat out Hill
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:28 pm : link
and so far NYG clearly isn't ready to cut bait, even with a potential suspension looming.
tracking the ball might not be the right way to word it
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:29 pm : link
he's struggles identifying when the ball is in the air
SO
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:29 pm : link
He doesn't always track his cover well either, that's two things that jumped out.
Rich loves this pick.

he's a project
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:30 pm : link
no doubt. He'll do well on specials if he makes it out of camp.

I never said they were going to beat out Hill. But if the Giants do cut bait, or IR Hill, which certainly remains a possibility at this point, their odds of making the roster shoot up astronomically.

I also highly doubt the Giants would use a 5th rounder on a guy who is immediately in a fight for a roster spot. Not with so many other needs.

Have you watched Behre? He could certainly be the replacement for Rolle net year. He's got strong skills to play SS .
Ooooh yeah.

That guy. The CB from ND. Awesome!

shows concerned the Giants are about the locker room. Is it the leadership that they lost as free agents, or was the locker room that bad last year?

Antrelle Rolle put it best, as far as the new guys they aquired this year "The FO wants to make sure they get players who understand they have to play hard and play to the end regardless of the circumstances." Or something like that.
Pretty cool AA for a DB this late in the draft.
BlueLou : 5/10/2014 4:36 pm : link
No shit, a team Captain too!
A significantly sizable IF, and I'm not a big fan of Hill
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:40 pm : link
Was Hill injured? Teams can't simply stash players there anymore.

IF Hill's not available or gone, then Behre has a shot to be the backup otherwise he's got to knock Taylor off the roster to be #5.

We're loaded at CB, BJ's hill is steeper yet regardless of position. Practice squad candidate, I'd wager. Perhaps both will be.
I don't think Hill is safe
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:41 pm : link
I think they are waiting for the appeal process.

Even if Hill's not safe
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:44 pm : link
You're plugging in lesser talent in his stead, so it's not exactly a win, imv.
Looking at the combine workout video on Jackson. He has an

impressively fast back-peddle. He looks like he has some tools.

They don't have to initially. Chances are Hill won't be on the roster for the first part of the season, so one of them could stick for the first 8 games as cover then get put on the practice squad (it tends to be a bit easier to stash during the season)
Oh
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:46 pm : link
I'm not calling it a win. The situation with Hill sucks ass. But how long do the Giants play this game with him?
I mean
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:48 pm : link
do go and try and count on Hill next season, a guy who three years running could not be counted on? I don't know how many more chances the Giants are going to give him.

The whole reason we were able to get him in the first place was because of his reputation as a fuck up. A reputation he is proving to be true.
I don't disagree, I've been one of the loudest here
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:49 pm : link
in terms of not being flexible with his pattern of mistakes. But, the team's clearly showing more patience up to this point with no indication of reversing course as yet.
Well, it ends
Spock : 5/10/2014 4:49 pm : link
I'm not sure how many of these last 3 will make the team, but if one of them make it, I guess that's beating the odds.

It's impossible to tell how the WH process will play out. But again, I have a very hard time seeing the Giants pick a guy who probably won't make the roster when there are roster spots to be won at other places. Namely TE and OL.
When I look at the depth chart
JonC : 5/10/2014 4:52 pm : link
it's an uphill climb for DBs. Let's re-visit in August.
If Hill is to go
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:52 pm : link
it's a decision that will be made, or may have already been made, independent of the draft. The playing time would go to Demps and Brown.
I don't
Arcanum : 5/10/2014 4:53 pm : link
Know who he is, but I'm gonna b*tch anyway!! Fire Reese And Coughlin! The Giants suck at drafting! Their Super Bowls was a fluke! This guy didn't run a 4.1 and he has small hands!! He was projected to be a 7th rounder. So Why the hell did we reach for this guy in the 6th ? (Sarcasm all the way on!!)
I know who he is
vinnieNJ : 5/10/2014 4:53 pm : link
he is a jersey kid from Hazlet went to Raritan High School
Jackson's nest chance to stick
Sneakers O'toole : 5/10/2014 4:53 pm : link
is to light it up on specials in preseason.
I retract RE: Berhe

He'll make this team and does look like a SS, I was thinking of a different player. My bad.

seems to think Jackson could convert to safety as well.
Seems to shy away from contact...
Jim Burt64 : 5/10/2014 5:14 pm : link
but ok...
Even with the Will Hill issue looming, we would
Jimmy Googs : 5/10/2014 5:17 pm : link
have to endure a rash of injuries at CB and/or Safety for a rookie to make it into the Giant secondary.

Safety is only a settled position for this season. Rolle is up for a contract. Hill might miss games or not, but giving him a long term deal is a BIG question. Who knows about Stevie.

Then what?
"could stand to get stronger"
oipolloi : 5/10/2014 6:04 pm : link
Isn't this true of every NFL player?

I have never read a scouting report that said a player was "too strong."
Frank Coyle listed Jackson as one of his fast rising players in draft
Rick in Dallas : 5/10/2014 8:57 pm : link
Ranked him 139 out of his top 300 and said he could play safety as well. Said he has a strong Postseason and excellent Pro Day. Sounds like good value in the 6th round.
I thought he got progressively worse last season, ending with a
Shockeyisthebest80 : 5/10/2014 11:08 pm : link
complete ass whipping at the hands of Brandon Coleman in the bowl game.

I can't say I would've drafted him and I'm bullish on most ND players.
Sometimes a player
mushroom : 5/11/2014 6:41 am : link
learning a position needs to really struggle(after a little initial success ) before he starts to understand.
He does have good measurables , sixth round is a good place to take a flyer on him.
