Thank you for this thread and the Jerny thread...some of these plays you really see what Eli can do as well...

P.S. thank god these are all NFL.com clips!!! So happy we didn't have to click over to the Giants.com video player. That thing is an absolute mess.
I think Rueben is gonna have a really good year.
BeerFridge : 5/22/2014 12:12 pm : link
Dude is definitely talented.
We all know
AnishPatel : 5/22/2014 12:15 pm : link
he can make plays. It's the mental aspect of the past system that drove fans crazy. However now with a clean slate, I hope we can see more highlights like the ones you linked and less stupid shit where you see the ball go one way and RR doing god knows what.

I actually think this new system could benefit him. If not, hey, he has 2 years left on his deal as does Wilson and AR. So if all 3 fail to produce, then we can always not re-sign them.
he's a playmaker
area junc : 5/22/2014 12:19 pm : link
the problem is he gets his ass kicked at the LOS way too often
Year 3
phil in arizona : 5/22/2014 1:00 pm : link
is usually the year is clicks for WRs.
I think randle is going to
ANGPASS : 5/22/2014 1:13 pm : link
beast it this year. I know everyone is hyped about OBJ, but i think he will the the third WR. There is no way randle can give prince problems and then suck out of no where. Randle is a big target, he is pretty smooth and has very underrated speed.
Gilbride had a brilliant offense, however, there was a lot of thinking involved for everyone on every play. randle was not the only one who messed up his routes. there were plenty of times nicks cut off his routes and manningham also. Last year we all really noticed it because randle did it more often and they mostly resulted in costly picks. you also remember them more because the giants had their worst season in 10 years.

Having said all that,it really is all up to the OL. i think the OL will be improved by a mile from last year. I think randle and Beckham on the outside and cruz and jernigan/manningham on the inside could be a deadly 4 WR set. Also throw a receiving threat like jennings in the backfield. If eli can get 3-4 seconds with those guys out there, it will be hard to stop. I would put anything on the line that if eli has on avg 4 seconds to throw the ball, the offense will MURDER everyone. all of these guys have amazing ability with the ball in their hands.

the best part is, the league doesn't respect anyone but cruz. That is great. let them double him. The less attention randle and beckham get the better. I have said it before, the quick tempo of the new system and the quick passes will help out the line a lot as well.

First I've heard this. Everyone else cites being on the same page with Eli.
Rueben is just heating up.

I can't wait for this season.
I think Rueben will be like Toomer was
Phil in LA : 5/22/2014 2:03 pm : link
and become reliable in year 3.
I think Randle will have a productive year...
Milton : 5/22/2014 2:14 pm : link
...as the deep threat in three WR sets, but Cruz and Beckham will be the starters and they will be everything that we were hoping and expecting Cruz and Nicks would be following the 2011 season.

I don't think OBJ will be the starter at week 1. if he start breaking out he will by the end of the year. I think they are going to start with Randle though. there are going to give him the edge first. OBJ will get a lot of playing time though.
Just let them compete
AnishPatel : 5/22/2014 2:41 pm : link
and see what happens. You don't draft a WR with the 12th pick and not have him start. OBJ did say he is learning X and Z. So I think he does start. The fact he is learning the 2 starting spots makes me think he is very well starting. You don't draft the most pro ready WR at 12, and say thanks but please sit.
It's all mental
JonC : 5/22/2014 2:43 pm : link
He struggled at times with sight adjustments, would make mistakes, get down on himself, etc.

If the new system reduces the adjustments, his performance level should improve. He's got the tools to be a very good WR.
double - edged sword
area junc : 5/22/2014 2:55 pm : link
yes the new O will be simpler for the WRs but it will also be simpler for defenses to cover ... basic WCO route combinations
It was contained in another thread
BSIMatt : 5/22/2014 2:55 pm : link
but the Giants passed out of 2WR formations about 25% of the time the last two years. Green Bay during that same time frame was at about 10%, 90% of Green Bay's pass attempts the past two seasons were out of 3/4 WR sets. If they pass that much out of multi-WR sets, then it means they must run out of those same sets, and in fact Lacy had more carries out of 3 and 4WR sets than he did in 2WR sets.

I can't imagine you could ever had said that about a Gilbride runningback. If McAdoo's offense follows that pattern, this will be significantly different than anything we've seen in a long, long time, and would also make that 3rd WR spot almost like part of the base offense.
dont think its all mental
area junc : 5/22/2014 2:57 pm : link
when he has a physical NFL CB in his face he needs to get off the LOS and not get redirected

he would not b the 1st talented WR who couldn't beat press cvg
Nice to see Eli
CT Charlie : 5/22/2014 2:59 pm : link
with time to throw. That may have been the only plays all season where he wasn't running for his life.
He's ok, like others have said,
barens : 5/22/2014 3:08 pm : link
He's got the tools to be a very good wide receiver. I don't think his skill set is as high as his predecessors( Nicks and Manningham), and comparing him to Toomer might make more sense, but he's got a ways to go to reach that level.
nothing
Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/22/2014 4:31 pm : link
to base this on, but I think the presence of former LSU guys like Beckham and Holliday will help.
Sort of dis-spells the myth that Eli is not accurate
gidiefor : Mod : 5/22/2014 7:56 pm : link
he nailed each on of those like a laser strike!
Uh no...
Jimmy Googs : 5/22/2014 8:11 pm : link
Eli is accurate in a step-up throw, other than that he throws it up for his guy to make the play...

It's a fookn' highlights tape, you think you're gonna see Eli's winged ducks?

Look how great Eli looks on the Jernigan Highlights!Throwing to a small target forces Eli to be even more precise!
Blue Lou
gidiefor : Mod : 5/22/2014 8:19 pm : link
the point is Eli is fully capable of making accurate throws - someone was saying a couple of days ago he could not play a west coast offense due to his lack of accuracy
Oh that's HS. Eli's plenty accurate for a WCO.
BlueLou : 5/22/2014 8:24 pm : link
The question about whether or not Eli will succeed running a WCO is more dependent on Eli's ability to make the right reads in a timely manner. That's the big question IMO.

Advantage goes to the talent. You get cute if you need to help your talent get open. Likely dont need that with this group.

Thank god for a little thing called training camp and QB coach to help with this system.
Despite all the talk of the WCO ...
Manny in CA : 5/22/2014 10:16 pm : link
I'm not convinced that's what the new Giants offense will feature.

Trying to force a very good veteran stand-and-deliver QB like Eli into a WCO system may back-fire, big-time. McAdoo comes from a team (the Packers) who went away from the WCO, he understands it's limitations.

It's ALL about the O-line (and a hopefully better blocking tight end) who can give Eli the time to throw the deep ball

I agree. Its not going to be a traditional WCO, but a Coughlin offense with a faster tempo and frequent one back sets and a different route tree than the Gilbride offense.
.....

Quote:
“As far as my route-running was concerned in the slot position, a lot of my routes were determined by what the secondary was doing, what type of coverage they were in. That would dictate my route,” Cruz said. “As far as this offense is concerned, it’s a lot more of your route is your route, and you can dictate that off your coverage and know what you have and Eli can find you within those different holes. Now it’s a lot less dependent on what my body language is.”

That should help the Giants cut down on the mistakes. It should help Manning cut down on the interceptions.

And make no mistake, this is no longer Tom Coughlin/Kevin Gilbride’s old-school offense.

“This is Coach McAdoo’s offense,” Manning said.

And it comes with a significant West Coast flair.

I am excited to see this new offense. The big win is with the WRs just focusing on running their routes and cutting down on the mental mistakes which result in Elis stat column in the form of Ints.

And the big loss is that it's easier to defend.

that's what weekly install is for. You know to add tendency breakers to the offense to keep things fresh.
