How do predict the Giants upcoming season?

Last year, the season was way underway before teams started hitting their stride.
Our situation seems more unpredictable because of the many changes, but at the same time, these are welcomed changes and the drafting of Odell Beckham and Weston Richburg, plus signing of Geoff Schwartz filled some major chasms. Depth and talent in secondary is impressive. On defense, Beason must stay healthy, and Hankins and JPP must be effective. The 2 major question marks on our team is how both Beatty and David Wilson will perform.

In general, you tend to see a boost when a team gets a new HC. Seems for a while now that when teams have a high turnover year and a new HC, they tend to make it into the playoffs...then fall off a bit the next few years.

The Giants of course don't have a new HC, but they have a shit ton of turnover and a new offense- which I think is enough change to have the effect of a new/much improved team. Hopefully with stability at HC they can stave off that fall off that most teams experience after a good turnaround with a new system.

I'm optimistic and actually more worried about the defense headed into the season at this point. There are a lot of new and/or unproven faces as key spots- especially defensive line and secondary. Hopefully there aren't a bunch of square pegs being forced into round holes.

The offense will come out of the gates like gangbusters, IMO. It will probably slow down a bit towards the end of the season as there will be ample film by then for opponents to game plan with. As far as the OLine: I'm not sure they could put out a worse starting 5 than they did last year- so with the two new faces at HB and Hillis and (hopefully) Wilson returning I think the running game will be much improved. I'm excited to see how Cruz, Randle, and the rookie fare in a more West Coast style offense (assuming that's what they install).

And, while I think we can win the division, I feel our season will come down to if Beatty is the player he was in 2012 as opposed to last year (assuming he is healthy), whether Randle is ready to make the next step to improve to an outside the numbers 1 receiver and Bechkahm can contribute right away.

Yes, there are a lot of changes and it may take some time for the offense to get on a roll. Past history suggests that the Giants are slow starters when the DC changes. Fewell is still in place so maybe that won't happen.

I would be happy to see them start 3-3 and finish at 10-6 and make the playoffs.

It's sure going to be fun and interesting to watch it all unfold.

As always, it's more important how they are playing in December than October. They could sputter early, but in a best case scenario, they could click at some point and go on a roll.

I think 9-7 would be a success considering all the new faces. Anything more than that would mean most of the changes worked out in their favor.

get what Jupiter hopes to start, we will get what he hopes for the season.
There is a lot of adjustment to have to take place,so I expect OTAs and camp is all about the fundamentals and basic plays and formations to build this thing slowly.
As it appears a starting team is forming/formed, role in some more plays.
The miscommunications and mistakes have to be cleaned up first, since each new player is seeing a play from their background first, then the playbook.
Coachs have a lot of work to do this year.
I first saw that HOF game as a burden, but a lot can be learned on the sidelines if the position coachs talk out the plays that are happening on the field.
We'll be fine.

that the Offense will be a work in progress and by the 3/4 pole or so start hitting on all cylinders. Or they can come out of the gate firing. I really dont know what to expect. It'll be different

the offense would be better than last year, special teams should improve, the run stopping & pass rush I'm not sure about but the secondary will be real good.

Overall, on paper, they look better than last year, IMO.

and most rookie WRs don't contribute much in their first year. I think a lot will be asked of Odell, but don't think we can expect much from him in his first few games (not a knock on him just looking at the norm for rookies). I think we'll need to see Randel, a whole lot of Cruz, and a vastly improved running attack for the Giants to win with their offense in the first few weeks.

The Giants wisely made some good moves on defense, largely in the secondary to help insulate the offense while it gels. Though, what the hell do I know? Maybe this offense comes out putting up 30-40 points out the gate.

I'm feeling optimistic, and being in an easy division helps.

concern about the season is the ability of our defense to stop the run with the departure of joseph and tuck and likely the suspension of hill; you can have all the amazing cover guys in your secondary, but if teams can grind 5-6 yards a carry on you, then you are very vulnerable. Hopefully fewell can work some magic and some guys in the front seven can step up in the run defense department.

JJs situation makes me laugh. Finally stay healthy and grasp the system. You play and get a chance to produce only for the system to finally change and have to learn a brand new one! hahah Doh!

The exception of uncertainty at the starting QB position. That year, the Giants went out and completely retooled their offensive line, and brought in a lot of other moving parts as well.

Warner hold the ball forever and get 39 sacks in 9 games. I think that year we played Arizona and he got sacked like 6 times. I thought he was done and was surprised he got his career on track with the Cardinals.

Warner had actual weapons in the passing game with the cards. The Giants passing game in 04 didn't scare anyone.

We don't know how healthy Eli will be, we don't know what offense they'll be running, we don't know whether Wilson or Williams will be contributing anything in the first half of the season, we haven't seen ODBJR on the field yet, we don't know whether Will Hill will be on the team or whether Stevie Brown is really a player or whether JPP is all the way back... I could go on, but you get the idea.

Barber, so it wasn't completely awful. They just weren't a good team then, though at the time, I thought Warner was washed up and overrated.

But I remember how awful our offensive line was in 2003, probably the worst in the league, and they made a big effort to retool it in 2004 and beyond.

Eli will be healthy as a horse.

Giants will run an offense with West Coast principals but also have plays favoring some of Eli's strengths.

Wilson will only contribute positively in the KO return game.

Williams will get plenty of carries b/c we actually need him to be a #2 RB.

ODBjr will be good enough but not great.

Will Hill will be on the roster but serving first half suspension.

Stevie Brown will show some limitations from the injury but will gut it out.

JPP will be all the way back and turn in a big season in his walk year.

And I agree, its too early to tell but let me know if there is anything else...

of how we might look. Last Pre-Season the offense looked horrendous and the defense too. It really showed early on in the season. I think as the pieces start to come together, perhaps in Pre-Season game 4 (we have 5 this year), we'll see some positive trends and can get a better prediction of things to come, however, injuries can derail that, as well.

The biggest question marks are...
1. Left Tackle
2. Tight End
3. JPP
4. Injuries

I feel very good about everything else. I'm confident that the OL will be improved (even without Beatty, how can it not be?), that Beckham will be the real deal, and that Randle will be much more productive in 3 WR sets than he was with the old offense and a hobbled Nicks. And the defense, which wasn't so bad last year, will be an improvement.

Starting Offense: Likely will have 3 new O-lineman, a new Tight End, a new RB and a new WR. Thats 6 of 11.

Starting Defense: Likely new DE, New DT, new LB, 2 new CB (counting slot), and new Safety (if Hill is out some period). That's 6 of 11 as well.

Yes, you still have to beat the guy in front of you but there is so much communication, rapport, and cohesiveness that players need to establish with one another and their schemes that you wonder how long it could take to become an efficient unit.

Yes, I predict we'll be that good on defense if everyone stays healthy, bounces back and/or peaks.

I like our return game and the rookies we drafted to improve specials.

I also think we will run the ball well early and likely jump on some teams early before they understand what we are doing on offense. Run, don't turn it over, let the defense and specials win the games early. The offense will come on so long as Snee, Beatty bounce back along with Eli of course.

They had such a lousy season last year and I do worry that with all the FA signings, it is nothing more than a bunch of band aids to make up for poor drafting. It wouldn't surprise me if they had another poor year and then cleaned house completely.

On the other hand, they did bring in some very solid players and the o-line & Eli should perform much better, which could mean 10-6 isn't that far fetched.

More and more the QB's that come into the league are very mobile and can move around and open up opportunities plus scramble for first downs. Eli prospers with first rate receivers.Hope our corps is ready. Still wish we had a big target TE. Grimble?

Warner barely had time utilize these weapons because he held the ball too long and got sacked. 39 times or so in 9 games is piss poor.

Fact is, the prognosis for the Patient is not good.....

Too many new/old parts in the OL.....

What if Beatty isn't ready, and if he is, it's a continuation of the last two seasons? Brown? He was a revolving door last year....

LG has to be an improvement, but look who is to the left and right of him?

Center is a huge question mark...we may have a one legged center or a rookie with growing pains....

Snee is penciled in for RG? OMG.....What we have to replace, even him, is scary....

Pugh....played solid, nothing spectacular last year, making him the best OLman last year, mainly by default.....he has to get better, plain and simple, so we can concentrate on the other side of the OL.....

Then there are the backups....if this OL has a rash of injuries, increase the insurance coverage on Eli, if they will let you....

An important scheme of this OL is a blocking TE who can catch.....right now we have none.....we have potential at best.....

Many have lauded Reese for what he has done with this OL, which was the main cause of our demise last year.....once again, Reese seems to be playing for the now and not the future.....and yet this OL is not ready now...

Add to that a new offensive scheme, a rookie WR they are counting on to start, lack of RB depth(quality, not quantity) if something happens to Jennings...

To overcome the deficiencies in the OL, supposedly a quick throwing WC offense will be used, where offensive blocking doesn't have to be stressed.....this then all lies on Eli who is not known for his short passing game....Eli has not played well, the last two seasons.....yes, there were extraneous reasons, but he was part of the problem too....he has to have a big year......

With an extra preseason game, it has to help getting this new offense ready for the season.....but I think it will be a work in progress, with a lot of mistakes in the beginning.....it may take awhile for this offense to gel, and next thing you know, those teams after the bye show up.....after those games, the season could be over....

The flip side is, the OL gels right away, we are able to run the ball consistently, creating 3rd and short rather than third and long, making third down play calling more flexible.....Odell makes us forget Nicks....a miracle happens and one of the TE's steps up....and even bigger miracle happens at RG....

Last year's defense was a top 10 defense, only in the statistical department.....it couldn't stop anyone good, when it had to....it's stats were padded in the last 10 games by 6 abysmal opponents.........the other good teams were 3-1 against us.....a tipped pass prevented it from being 4-0....

On defense, our only pass rusher, once again statistically, was Tuck, because he had two good games against a bad Washington ball club....

The defense this year has one proven pass rusher, and that is JPP....and that is only a given if he is healthy....who do you think will be on the OL's radar when the Giants rush? JPP will be double teamed, and tends to get frustrated when this happens.....we are counting on rookies, basically, to provide the pass rush?

Better hope nothing happens to Beason....if he goes down, there isn't one linebacker worth a damn on this roster.....

If this offense manages to click, this defense will have to do something it didn't have to do last year.....protect a lead.....Yes we have two good corners, but TE's, slot receivers and RB's won't be covered by them, and without a pass rush, Fewell inspires no confidence in me that he can adjust his defense to stop passing offenses....

But there is a flip side.....Moore becomes Da Monster....Hankins has to at least replicate what LJ did....Kiwi has to remember how to play DE.....McClain, somehow becomes a steal.....Hill is not suspended.....Stevie recovers fully from the ACL.....

Yes, the NFC East sucks.....it there for the taking.....the team that overcomes injuries, and has a unexpected big year wins it......could it be the Giants? They have as good a chance as anyone.....but having to cope with a new offensive system, too many new pieces in the offense, and lack of depth on offense AND defense, makes me feel at this time, once again they do not make the playoffs(second place in the East will not cut it).....

Hopefully I am wrong, and every move Reese made, will raise the "In Reese We Trust" banner again.....but I just don't see it happening right now.....

and not mention QB? In a quarterback league not having a strong performance from the QB spot is the difference between life and death. Nothing else matters more.

Beatty has never played that badly before 2013. I tend to think 13 was an outlier and Beatty will play true to form, assuming he's healthy. He was an ok player in 2011 and 2012 before losing his shit in 2013 and the interior OL was a complete disaster which impacts individual linemen and has a ripple effect.

Beatty is not a terrible football player even if he resembled one in 2013. He's playing to keep his job and pay check in 2014. He will be fine.
