Hi from Tampa
Dave in Tampa : 7/31/2014 11:55 pm : link
Hi all...long-time lurker here, finally decided to join the discussion. I have been a fan since the early 80s; growing up in southern CT, my first memory of the Giants was the Phil Simms/Scott Brunner QB controversy. My dad worked in the city and would bring home the NY Post, and I remember the huge headlines on the back page. (I remember rooting for Brunner to win the job, which tells you a lot about my scouting acumen). Anyway, not sure I have missed more than 2-3 games since. I now live in the Tampa area with the wife and two amazing daughters (who are 6 and 4), although we are giving a lot of thought to relocating in the near future. For years, BBI has been the first website I visit each day; in fact I usually learn about major news stories (both sports and non-sports) from the site. Not sure why it took so long to join, but looking forward to being a part of the group.

My name is Jim and I grew up and currently live in South Jersey (Eagles country). I have been a Giants fan since the 1970's, and I hate the Eagles and their fans more than any other sport franchise.
I am also a NY Yankees fan!
I love Big Blue, and enjoy driving up to the stadium for a few games each season in my Giants blue pick-up!
I am a seafood chef, so if you have any questions about preparing seafood dishes, drop me a private message and I'll do my best to give some cooking tips.
welcome aboard...

I've been lurking for a very long time. I'm on this site every single day and don't know what I would do without it. Eric, is it too late to contribute to your site? Please let me know. I'm not rich by anymeans, but am open to helping out if I can. Been following the Giants since the early 80's. I have a 1 year old son who will be a Giants fan whether his mother likes it or not. (She's a pats fan)I'm already teaching him to say "Go Giants!" while his mother is at work. :) Nice to meet you all.

Hey All. I’ve been a fan since ’67 so I feel I’ve seen it all. From Good-Bye-Al-lie on the radio to LT to Dave Brown to Eli, it’s been up & down (or should I say down & up). It’s hard to say who I hate more, Dallas or the mets. After the Giants moved here to NJ, I didn’t follow as closely as most times in my life. Rooting for one of the worst teams in football for about 10 years wasn’t my thing anymore during high school graduation, the Yankees winning & girls. Became a serious fan again after LT’s first pre-season game.

After the 0-2 start last week, I had to tell some younger fans that this is nothing compared to 1964-1984. The next thing I knew, my father, cousins & I were talking about The Fumble, Wellington Mara and infamous #1 draft picks. We all agreed Tim Mara wanted to hire George Allen to replace John McVay, but no one could remember who Wellington wanted. I believe he wanted to hire a general manager first and his choice was another “old friend” from one of his past teams. Does anyone know who Wellington wanted that caused their feud to go public?

I see that and clicked on it but it only gives me the option to either show or hide my email address, not to change it. The email address I used when I signed up for BBI was a student email address that is long defunct.
That's all I got Metnut, sorry

The name escapes me at the moment, but wasn't it the guy who was running the program at the U. of Miami? Schellenberger, or something like that?

First time poster. I have been lurking on the site for over 10 years. I was born in Manhattan but grew up in Boston Area. I come from a very large New York family and it is all Giants 24/7. I have moved many times with a 16 year stint in St.Louis and relocated to Dallas 4 years ago to the land of Jerry World... It is a trip here with Cowboys 24/7 365 days a year. The sports stations are convinced they have the best talent and they are always getting screwed.
I check the site every day and thought I would come out of the closet and post to get some real football conversation. I have missed less than a handful of games over the last 30 years but remain devout no matter the record. I like the history and facts part of the Giants and will try to stick to the non-emotional which we all know "isn't easy."
I love Eli and his body of work over the last 11 years. I find it interesting this week that Tom Brady all of a sudden sucks because he can't get the ball off. Amazing what an offensive line and a little talent around him can do for a good Quarterback!!! See you all on the forum...
Frank

I know George Young wanted Schellenberger to replace Parcells after his first year. I'm not sure if Mara wanted him a few years earlier? I'll probably post in a new thread later as this is driving me crazy.

MNF vs. Colts - what to do?

Hey all. I'll be visiting NYC for the MNF game vs. the Colts on Nov. 3. Very excited about it. LOVE getting to see different stadiums. But I'm wondering what "real" Giant fans might recommend a visitor do pre-game. A cool bar nearby? A tailgate experience outside the stadium? Something cool inside?

Although this might have been discussed and I missed it, what is the purpose or the repeating certain statements in a thread or quotes with a reference number?

Also when reading threads and you go to page 2 or any other additional page when you arrow back to continue reading threads on that page it takes you back to page 1. Can that be corrected? Thanks this is by far my favorite site.

Hope the adds are helping with expenses. Two weddings and college the last few years have made it hard to contribute.

The quote function is simply used by some posters to highlight the fact that their comments pertain to a specific post (so the post is repeated, the number is tied to that particular post...clicking on it takes you to that post).

I don't have the issue you do with the back button. When I click "back" it takes me to the previous page, not to the first page.

Time to go my friend.

I wanted to tell you, before I do, a thing, I think you should know….My only regret in life is really, I sometimes do not say some things that need to be said.

Sillly me and strange me, I know. But this place you provided for me, years ago. A very difficult period I was going through. You, this place, and peoples I had met here... brought me through it all.
We little know each other (not at all really), but know now you this…..you have helped a stranger, one you did not know.

Not intentionally perhaps, your love of the sport and the G's, I know are first, and it is for this youi do this thing. It is thankless mostly.
But nevertheless the intention or cause…your actions helped me when I needed a place in the heart to stay. And stay I did and you this board and the various peoples here... many years ago filled that empty spot.

It is time to go, as truth be told.. I have changed. No offense to others, I do no longer quite fit it. It is yes, I, that have changed. No fault to others.
Delete this if after you read it or leave it, as it is intended to be left. Others should perhaps know things are more than they seem by appearence at times.

You have done the greatest of things, you have helped one strange to you. When we pass they say we remember little, but the things of kindness we have done for others. I think there is truth to that, so I say remember this…..your actions, this place you created, were a kindness to me, though you know me not.

I cannot repay you, but feel certain you will be repaid.
Thanks
Ron in New Mexico

Hello All,

I admit to be a lurker for years. Used to post back in the day quite a bit, but the amount of trolling from eagle fans would enrage me. As a fan, its easy to root for a team and talk about greatness when everything's going well and breaking it right. I think its times like these that makes makes boards like this great! Ill give my two cents in appropriate areas on the forum, but...lets remember why we love this team..They give us the highest highs and lowest lows. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Im 28..life long fan from bridgewater, nj

Probably one of the few of my age to go back and watch a full season from the 86 and 90 team to appreciate what was and what is! Looking forward to next year pre thanksgiving sucks, but hey we all know damn well when the eagles and cowgirls beat themselves out the playoffs all will be well :)

the .gif file has to be available on a site on the net and you simply link to it by using the code instructions at the bottom of a thread when you hit "reply".

Old Lurker, New Poster from Arizona
CJ in AZ : 1/4/2015 2:35 pm : link
I grew up in Long Island, became a Giants fan in 1959 as an 11 year old Frank Gifford fan. Have always been a loyal Giants fan, even if the bad times.

I played Div. 3 football (running back, flanker, some safety), plus many years of flag football in Arizona (one year taking our Arizona champions to the National Touch Football League championships in St. Louis (where several NFL retreads and fringe types were playing).

Now, while looking at the truly excellent recent changes made in the way they run and coach the Az Cardinals (after decades of the opposite), I still spend my time looking at BBI and other Giants sites. Go Blue!
