bone as many suspected. 12 weeks could be worse.

So he goes to PUP then, right?

Well I guess it could have been much worse

The McClain signing may prove to be a much bigger acquisition than previously thought.
That's actually great news
robbieballs2003 : 6/13/2014 11:17 am : link
It gives these guys an opportunity but Beason may only miss a game or two.
12 weeks from today...

12 weeks from today is Sept. 5. Giants open season in 12 weeks and three days on Sept. 8.

Probably miss week 1 and possibly week 2 depending on how he heals..

I think since he has not had a camp practice he is eligible for PUP. IDK if OTAs count as practices.
They'll PUP him
aimrocky : 6/13/2014 11:20 am : link
He can't condition with the foot injury, so I'd bet they take the 6 weeks to get him up to speed and use the extra roster spot.
We need to pick up a veteran MLB
PatersonPlank : 6/13/2014 11:20 am : link
to get us through the first few games and then supply backup experience. I don't trust the guys we have.

terrible
Tricky weight bearing bone
andrew_nyg : 6/13/2014 11:21 am : link
with all of the lateral movement and burst with his size frame...he'll be lucky to be back by week 4. If he comes back early, he'll be VERY lucky not to reinjure himself.

FTS
They are not going to PUP him
nygiants16 : 6/13/2014 11:21 am : link
that means he is out the first 6 weeks...

3 month recovery means 3 days before game 1...he probably misses game 1 and possibly game 2 at the most...
And the injuries begin..

NYG amazed Eli Manning returned so quickly after Dr. Robert Anderson performed surgery. Different injury but they hope for same from Beason.
AMAZING
giantfanboy : 6/13/2014 11:22 am : link
seriously does this happen to any other teams?

it seems every year the very first practice of Giants season - a player goes down from no contact with serious injury

guys
robbieballs2003 : 6/13/2014 11:23 am : link
This is not terrible news.
I
AcidTest : 6/13/2014 11:23 am : link
think they will PUP him. As someone said, he can't even practice, so he won't be in any type of condition to start playing week two or three. Not after missing all of camp. The extra four weeks will also given his foot additional time to heal. He can then come back midseason.
Was fearing something worse.
GiantTuff1 : 6/13/2014 11:23 am : link
Bone and full recovery of the 12 weeks is better than achilles, lis franc, or something that has a greater ability to linger.

Hopefully this means he will be strong and fresh a couple weeks into the season and get to see Jon Beaston elevate the defense again!

Go Giants, and I wish you a speedy recovery Mr. Beason
Man, that sounds painful
ij_reilly : 6/13/2014 11:23 am : link
No wonder he couldn't walk off.
Use some of that cap space and bring Vilma in..
andrew_nyg : 6/13/2014 11:24 am : link
at least you would have a player who could man the middle for half a season or so.
Could have been
muhajir : 6/13/2014 11:24 am : link
Much worse. This is relatively good news

Since I believe you were a foot doc, can you please explain why this kinda break is deserving of good news or did I miss some sarcasm?

Go ask Sean Weatherspoon, he was running alongside the trainers when he ruptured his achilles.

Beason is not going to miss half the season...
I always though that broken bones when healed

were tougher to re-break because of calcification?
I tell you

For some reason I dont remember it this bad in the 80s when i started as a fan.

Well we don't really KNOW that, now do we?
Could be a lot worse
Peter from CT : 6/13/2014 11:26 am : link
He will be back early in the season.
he'll be on the PUP in camp
WeatherMan : 6/13/2014 11:26 am : link
the real question is whether he'll be on it in the regular season - if the 12 week timeline is accurate he will not be, as that would require missing the first 6 weeks of the season. As such, even if he'll miss week 1 or 2, he'll be activated off of the PUP list prior to week 1 if his recovery is proceeding on schedule.
Here is a video on the injury

Agreed. We should just break the rest of his bones now so we've got him in better shape in 12 weeks.
yes
MookGiants : 6/13/2014 11:28 am : link
this does happen to other teams. Pay attention around the league and you'll realize that.

Can't say I'm shocked that Beason is injured. He basically missed his final 2 years with the Panthers, which is a big reason why they traded him.

I hope he comes back soon, but I still think he's insanely overrated

It's a positive Beason played in defense last year and no significant changes. Mind won't be behind, just body. #Giants #NYG
It depends on what the "12 weeks" means
BillT : 6/13/2014 11:29 am : link
12 week until he is ready to play or 12 weeks until he is ready to start his conditioning.
so who's playing MLB
mfsd : 6/13/2014 11:29 am : link
until he's ready? Herzlich? Can McClain move? Someone not on the roster right now?

This sucks
Mcclain will probably be the MLB
nygiants16 : 6/13/2014 11:30 am : link
he played MLB when Lewis was out in 2012...

Paysinger and Williams OLB
The rookie Kennard
pjcas18 : 6/13/2014 11:31 am : link
has been playing in OTA's not that that means anything.
I also
MookGiants : 6/13/2014 11:31 am : link
don't know why people were speculating things like lis franc or achilles.

The Giants specifically said it was the bottom of foot. Didn't they? That would rule both of those out, no?
He can be pupped for

camp and activated before the season starts.
Lis Franc is a foot sprain
