I did one marathon seven hour session at $100 an hour...tipped him $150. I went about 20% since I was happy with it. So I would break it down that way for simplicity sake.
Tattoo question: white skin & black ink = good contrast
colored ink would make a nicer tattoo on dark skin, but I've never seen it.
I've thought the same thing. Dark skin and dark tats you can't see shit. I have light brown skin, so I always wondered about ink and contrast for different skin tones. When to use color vs keeping it black ink.
Artists joke that it hurts less if you tip upfront, but don't dismiss that completely. You've already changed how they think of the job and the client. For something you're gonna have forever, you want the artist in a positive state of mind.
Tip up front, and be generous. Especially over multiple sessions.
Is that it cures to a lighter shade, almost green-black. Contrast is lost within the first few months, and on darker skin tones, can often become muddled looking.
White ink is for little girls trying to hide a butterfly tattoo from mom and dad. Just say no.
Does he have to give that $150/hr to a boss while he gets minimum wage? If that $150 per is his to keep, you don't tip a business owner. I sometimes feel the world doesn't get this tipping thing anymore.
And yes, I know it's from a movie, but still...
Tip your weekly salary every time you go.

Thanks guys, I will definitely tip after each session.
On to my NEXT questions. How much do I tip? Guys charges about $150/hr, my first session is 3 hours.

People with darker skin don't give a damn about contrast?

And white ink isn't really all that great on any skin. Usually darker ink is better choice for most tattoos.

I'm sure most of it goes to the shop as he is not the owner.
