this is why I hate sports writing. Nick Foles has 9 good games and this guy would credit that over a body of ten years of work, with two super bowl MVPs, carrying the team on his back in certain years, etc. Eli has won in the playoffs in the road against the Niners, the Packers twice, the Cowboys in Dallas, and against the Pats. Foles lost at home to a Saints team that was 3-5 outside the dome. Unlike Foles, Eli actually throws into tight windows and commands the offense. I would love to see Nick Foles play behind the offensive line Eli played behind last year, with no running game and no time to throw the ball, and try to throw into the tight windows Eli did. Maybe Nick Foles is the next coming of Tom Brady and Joe Montana, but if this sports writer really thinks so, then why would he not trade him for Philip Rivers. In any even, neither I nor this Eliot Shorr-Parks know what Foles's true potential is, but to say youw wouldn't trade him at this point for Eli is insanity. I hate sports writers.

Stop watching ESPN, NFL Network, etc.
You'll be amazed at how much more you enjoy sports once you do.
It's very hard to know what Eli has left at this point, given how awful the pass protection was last season, how awful the running game was, and how badly his #1 wide receiver (Nicks) played.
It's also hard to know if Foles is for real.
Whatever. It's all just barroom talk anyway.
Matt Flynn over Eli
Sanchez over Eli
etc.
its the flavor of the month with some people
How did that turn out?
I still wouldn't trade careers, but I can see how non giants fans are impressed and in a wait and see mode.

I agree with this 110%. If it isnt a documentary or a live sporting event, there is no need to watch any sports radio.

I second this. I did this back in 2011 and never enjoyed football more. And they wound up winning it all. I'll try it again this season.
Honestly, if Eli was Tony Romo or any other QB and had played the same last season and a half of football, there wouldn't be a single person on this board who would give him a fraction of a chance at bouncing back, forget take him over a 25 year old who went 27:2, TD:INT, last season.
You people are insane...
No, he factored into who would play better next year on the Eagles and he had no issue rating Eli's classmates ahead of Foles. The author makes no sense. The issue isn't whether Foles will be better than Eli over their career, I doubt it, but nobody knows that for sure. What I do know, if I had to chose between those two qbs on the same team based on all my info at my disposal now, it is Eli without a doubt.
They usually say what they think that their readers (constituents) want to hear.
Don't get upset over it.
Right now, I am sure we can pick out a very short list of guys we would rather have for next season only. That list may include his brother, Brady, Rodgers and Brees....and maybe that is all.
However, if he has another bad season where he throws more INTs than TDs.... what would you say then? Especially if we go through the trouble of getting a new OC, O-line repair, etc etc.
Right now you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. One more bad season and we have to begin thinking about looking into the draft for his eventual replacement. Nassib is not it.
This doesn't mean Foles is better than Eli, though he is more careful with the ball.
He's ten years younger. Why would the Eagles swap them now? It's hard to come by starting caliber QBs, Foles looks to be one.
Some of you guys will look for any reason to be mad
Great point. I know Foles didn't throw any picks. but he doesn't make the big boy throws. most of his highlights were to wide open wrs. also, he had all day to throw.

^This.
The age is a major factor in this decision. I'm not convinced that Foles is a superstar QB, but he has shown enough potential that it is a possibility. I fully expect him to come back to earth this year, but the question is how low will he go.
Being a fan since Jimmy Carter was President, I urge each of you to relish every remaining snap we get with this cat. You're gonna miss him far more than you think. Every future QB will be measured against him, every Giant playoff run measured against 07' and 11'.
I look forward to several more years of Eli driving the rest of the league's fans batty. How freaking awesome would it be if he delivered another Lombardi? :D
He looked like crap last year and he's being judged as such, who cares.
And the run game also has to be factored in - 83 yds/game and our top rusher was Andre Brown who had about 570 yards.
The line, the lack of a run game, these are inconvenient facts for some.
All that being said, I don't think Eli is cooked yet and I'm hoping for a bounceback year.
If I were unbiasly building an NFL team, I would take Foles over Eli without a second though... and I am as big a fan as Eli Manning as you'll meet. He's my favorite football player of all time. Not only that, but it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if Eli won another ring and Foles never wins one.
But you have to be objective. You have to factor in age and recent performances. As many posters have said, this is not a debate over who's had a better career or even who will wind up with a better career... it's who you would rather have as your QB moving forward -- and the answer is actually pretty obviously Foles.
because they didnt invest $20 million of their cap dollars in the QB position?
The article isnt outlandish. But it's certainly pointless - neither team is considering a trade with each other so ....
to obtain a younger newer model.
And they were correct.

What Foles did statistically is unreal. Then again you can see he was very cautious before throwing the ball as he had only 2891 yards to go with those 27 TDs.
If $20+Million Eli plays like shit again (and I doubt he will) then it's probably time to replace him. With Foles? After this year we'll know if this sports writer is correct.
Eli, of course, can be as good as anyone and has reached the pinnacle twice, but he also has plenty of bad games too.
So far, Foles looks pretty damn solid although he needs more starts to see where he normalizes versus the mean.
