Coughlin wants to put DRC on the opposition's best WR and the author thinks he shouldn't. Obviously the author must be correct.
This is what happens at BBI too. No qualifications. The Giants have a lot more information at their disposal but this guy comes to a conclusion that the group with all that data at their disposal doesn't know as much as the author who got his hands on some game tape. Fucking ponderous.
all corners have "problems" with number 1 WRs. I'll never forget T.O. whipping Champ Bailey's ass in Denver one year. Bailey was 1st team All-Pro that season.
having some technique issues - fixable, but he'll have to listen to the coaches. Think it will be helpful having Antrel running the show back there. Based on the comments AR has made - DRC has some room (need)for growth.

Speaking of AR, along with Beason, it's nice to have outstanding leadership in the back 7.
1) Raanan says that the Broncos not using Cromartie to cover the #1 receiver very much is a sign of his weak play.
This being Cromartie's first year with the Broncos and also the quality of two other cornerbacks used by the Broncos, affect why Cromartie wasn't always used to ccver the opponent's star receiver. The price they offered to pay him after last season, certainly does indicate they they thought he was a star cornerback. ($8 million per year)
2) Raanan says he watched 3 coaches tapes to evaluate the quality of Cromartie's play.
Cromartie was coached during the season by Jack Del Rio at cornerback. He made dramatic improvements in his game during his first and only year on the team. The fact that Raanan doesn't tell us when the three games he watched were played, indicates that the reporter may have drawn his conclusions from closer to the beginning of the season. It would have been more accurate if he had watched the last few games of the year, because then he would have been closer to evaluating the player the Giants end up signing.
3) The Giants shared with Cromartie how they intended to use him. Cromartie liked the "structured" role that the Giants presented him with so much, that he committed to sign with the Giants before the Jets were able to put a higher counter offer on the table. The enthusiasm that he had for playing with the Giant's could improve his attitude this upcoming season, which also could improve his play.
A physically gifted player, it is my impression that he may not have been very serious about his career early, and then he got himself in a bad situation in Philly, and with those fans it was probably a very tough couple of years there, remember, he was not the only high quality cornerback that failed there.
Last season he had his best season, and it was his first really good season, so he still has his skills and speed, he has not been injured, and he has been around the block a few times, he now has his head on straight, and he is coming into a great situation here.
This should be a very good defense, and a very good defensive backfield. Prince also is just coming into his own, and we all know he struggled early also. This is not unusual in the NFL for cornerbacks.
My prediction is that he will be very good here, if Pierre-Paul gets back to being who we all hope he can be, and if Moore flashes a lot more of that talent he displayed last season, and if Hankins is as good as I am hearing he is, then this will be a very good defense. We also need Beason back and playing like he did last season.

Why did he do so poorly with the Eagles? I live in Philly, and a lot of local Eagle fans here were chuckling when we signed in; they said he was definitely overrated. Was he used incorrectly?

Eagles played him in the slot a lot, which was new to him
And as we know, the Eagles defense as a whole was poorly conceived and overall shitty.

Fox didn't want him on the other team's best WR last season and he's a better defensive mind than Coughlin.

Because a writer thinks he knows more than the Giants' staff or because you think your evaluation of another coach's usage of DRC means he's overrated?
Fox > Coughlin defensively. Fox did not let DRC shadow the opponents best player all over the field
Yet because the writer says something negative about your beloved Giants, even though his opinion coincides with a better defensive mind than Coughlin's, you side with Coughlin and trash the writer. Its classic you.

He seems to back up his argument with facts.
IIRC Rolle and he got along very well as team-mates with the Cardinals. Hopefully, Rolle's effort and commitment will rub off on DRC with the Giants.
