The one thing I think a lot of people forget (or just plain don't know) was how good those Niners were on defense as well as offense. We all know the Giants were the #1 defense in football that year, but #2 was SF. Montana was 9-1 at Candlestick in the playoffs coming into that game. The Niners were two-time defending champs. They got off to a slow 6-5 start in 1988. From that point until the 1990 NFC title game, they won 39 of their next 44 games, including two Super Bowls. That was an incredible football team.
