Coughlin has out coached the number 1 ranked and number 3 ranked Coach on that list twice when it counted for all the marbles
I don't think there are many people who would argue that Coughlin is historically a better overall coach than Belichick (whether he beat him in two Super Bowls or not). My belief is that Belichick is top 2 or 3 all time.
He has done a great job, but he hasn't gotten to the top of the mountain yet.
Sean Paton - His value is pretty obvious when you look at how the Saints did one year without him. I believe the Colts made the playoffs the year they lost their HC (for most of the year anyway).
Who do you want? I'd take TC in one game over almost any coach in the league living or dead. He was absolutely on point for our two SB runs, that team played perfectly at times and just good enough when they were on the ropes. Consistently clutch plays, sound defense, sound fundamentals, and not one hint of choke or nerves during those runs against some very good teams in very tough places to play and his troops triumphed repeatedly over heavily favored opponents, Dallas, Green Bay, New England, Green Bay again, San Fran, New England again...those two runs are as good as any playoff runs I've ever seen from any team in those spots.
think it should be. The reasons we have not made the playoffs the past two years have less to do with Tom than with JR not restocking the offensive line. Plus, after being 0-6 last year, TC did not lose the locker room and the Giants kept playing hard.
One wonders where we might be had the front office done their job by refilling the obviously aging O-line.
If the Giants made more playoff appearances the last five years. Even with the Superbowl, I think ranking 5th is fair for now, since we've missed the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years.
If the Giants make the playoffs this year, I think Coughlin automatically jumps to the Top 2-3 on that list next offseason.
BTW - a bit too much "love" for Lovie Smith in those rankings. And Sean Payton is a very good coach but #2?
lol

That said, it sure beats being a Dallas fan. America's Team Irrelevant since the 90's
- Mike McCarthy
- Mike Smith
- Rex Ryan
Under-rated:
- Jeff Fisher
- Chuck Pagano
- Chip Kelly
2-Coughlin(best clutch HC in the game, imv)
3-Jim Harbaugh
4-Pete Carroll
5-Andy Reid
6-John Harbaugh
I put BB #1 and TC #2.
Payton at 3.
No way I put Jim harbaugh above TC.
With the talent in SF and him not getting it done.. its laughable to see him top 5.
BB and TC have done it and without the stacked talent the miners have. John Harbaugh gets credit however imo.
Of course I didn't read the article.
2-Coughlin
3-Payton
4-Pete Carroll
5-Jim Harbaugh
6-Andy Reid

Tom, however, is still a brilliant coach.

Only one of the Harbaugh brothers have won the big game, once.
Good coaches, yes. Great? Not yet.
Sean Payton is a very good OC. Very smart at creating offenses. It's hard for me to rank him because of my dislike of the bastid.
