" While history certainly plays a role in this evaluation, the NFL is a year-to-year league and recent performance is more important than the career résumé"
"There's no doubt Big Ben deserves a spot on this list, given his penchant for clutch play throughout his career. "
" the lackluster production is certainly not what we've come to expect from the three-time Super Bowl champion with a reputation for seizing the moment." Yet, he was rated #4 despite lousy 4th quarter stats last season. Hmmmm.
He is a lousy QB, and he is not clutch. He played on 2 decent teams that won 2 Super Bowls, with each team making 2 of the greatest runs in the history of the game, beating an undefeated team one year and a 15-1 team the other year, and he continues to get this kind of disrespect. I guess it was just fucking luck.
anti-Giants MO by NFL network and their mentors ESPN. NFL.com is part and parcel of this. I sincerely hope the Giants and Eli win it all this year to shove it up their collective arse's.
I have stopped watching this network completely. From such bad reporting from Brooks, Sapp, even Shaun O'Hara.Of course I am not sure their opinions are actually reporting
Also do you remember how they used to introduce Darren Sharper as if he was G-d's gift to women.
Really this station is as bad as the ones that show some of those pathetic reality show.
I think it says something that David Diehl got a job working on FOX with little time on this station.
O'Hara needs to find another outlet.
the ranking of his list. The mere idea that he has that clutch is something that changes so drastically from year to year is what makes this laughable-- and quite frankly, it makes the whole bullshit concept of "clutch" that people hang their hat on so dramatically.
If you think someone is "clutch," it's because you think they have the mental and personality traits that allow them to stay cool under pressure, or slow things down when things speed up. Players who have that typically don't lose it unless they have a mental breakdown (the yips, etc.).
Now, while players skills decline, it could cause some of them to lose their edge or lose some confidence in their abilities, but it's not something that just changes from year to year the way this idiot (and many other idiotic sports fans) can't wait to claim.
It's dumber and even more absurd when people do this to define clutch in baseball.
You guys are too hard on Bucky. He just needs to change the title to Â
...that clutch performance is bullshit. In life some people fold more under pressure, while others are able to perform the same or even excel when the chips are down.
Sports are naked competition, there will be a loser and there will be a winner. So it is clear to see who is performing in big spot and who is not.
Eli's career accomplishments in big spots exceed all of his peers. Big Ben brought his team down to win the big one against the Cardinals in '08. But, Eli has done this twice and in my opinion against better opposition.
How about Eli standing tall in the '11 NFC title game? Can you easily point to any of his peers who have a similar performance in a big game? How about Throwing for 300 plus in one of the coldest games in NFL history.
Clutch is the best trait in competition, it means you can face off against the best and win. It means you rise to the occasion and that is what sports is all about.
One clutch moment can define a career. On the flip side a career devoid of big moments is usually looked down upon, whether this is fair or not is debatable, but the perception is there.
Eli is the NFL's most clutch QB because he has the resume.
In terms of the whole clutch debate, though, you can argue all you want that Eli is a bad quarterback, but I don't know of anybody with football knowledge who can say with a straight face that he isn't one of the best in clutch situations. Even if you consider him to be mediocre in all other regards, what he does with the game on the line is pretty special.
good thing he did not put up a chart of Playoff 4 quarter comebacks. Eli is in a four way tie for second with 4 among John Elway, Tom Brady and Terry Bradshaw. Montana has 5.
Since its totally made up, I'm surprised he didn't put Eli on the list somewhere just to write "Eli lead th Giants to 2 4th quarter Super Bowl comebacks against Tom Brady and Bill Belichek". He passed on some easy ink.
Rodgers does have 6 4 quarter comebacks, He was down one point in Detroit in 2008. Down 2 points in Green Bay against Chicago, down 6 points in Chicago in 2009. He was down 6 points against New Orleans, and down 6 points at Detroit in 2012 then the Chicago game last year. Only 4 times in his career has he scored the winning points with less then 4 minutes in the game. (one of them was the Giants).

Ahh that's right, totally forgot about the comeback vs the Giants.
That was not a comeback, buy was a game-winning drive. I checked Eli has scored the winning points 21 times in the last 4 minutes or overtime. Comebacks and game-winning drives is one stat that Eli really excels. You could see it on the field if you actually watch the games. I think one problem with Eli at times is that he seems to REALLY HATES to lose and will take to many chances causing interceptions.

how absolutely wrong he is. The rest of the article is drawn from the ether. You are about as wrong as you can be Bucky. And about as clutch as Tony Romo.
and his number two guy (Rodgers) is not even on that list.
Wow you're right. Other than the Chicago game last season I really can't think of another comeback from Rodgers.
That is because his team has been leading or losing by enough points during the first 3 quarters of a game, thus eliminating the need to lead for a "4th quarter comeback."
If your team plays a lot of close games, you are probably in that situation far more than those who blow their teams out. It would seem logical one would figure.
we are penalizing then the QB's on the teams where they win by healthy margins and only praising the ones who "pull it out of the fire" to victory late in the 4th so they can be celebrated on the highlights and talk shows the next day.
I was on that Nick Foles thread a week or two ago saying it's a "no brainer" to take Foles over Eli at this point, based on the information available (which doesn't necessarily mean it'll turn out to be correct).
So I hope that removes any biases from my next opinion when I say...
Any article listing top 10 clutch QBs without Eli in the top 5 is an absolute fucking joke.
1 losing season since starting a full season which was this past one.
19th in total passing yards - 35,345
24th in Total passing TDs - 229
13th Game Winning Drives - 30
11th 4th Quarter Come backs - 25
2 SB MVPs
If he plays 5-7 seasons and if this new system can get him stats and/or a SB win, I think he will be good shape. If not a SB win, then I hope this new system can give him a big time boost in stats. I hope Ben M. goes out of his way to pad Elis stats, especially on the goal line and red zone.
Of course it's physically possible. You just might need a new monitor or iPad after.

I have said this once before and I will say it again. Fantasy Football was the worse thing to happen to Eli.

the guy just grabbed some stats to support essentially whoever he wanted to add to his "top 10" list.
christ what a joke.
I hope Eli kills it in the new McAdoo system this year and going forward and wipes his ass with their articles

Bucky Brooks played Morocco Mole in the Secret Squirrel cartoons.

TMI!
Tony Romo, Cam Newton, Phillip Rivers
I laughed at that as well
Are you saying you can't physically take a dump? Because printing out the article should be fairly easy...
The list is a joke.

I meant to say game winning drive, my mistake

Hasn't missed a start since starting.

Eli is 5th in game winning drives. Manning, Brady,Brees and Ben are ahead of him.
Eli is 4th in 4th Q. Comebacks. Manning, brady and then Eli.
