I am so optimistic about this team

CruzShip52 : 7/17/2014 9:13 am
Please post here if you are with me

Improved secondary (losing will hill sucks) but Stevie brown if he gets back to 2012 form the giants will be fine

Improved running game take the load off Wilson, add Jennings a pass catching big mobile back- I love that signing he will be a monster this year mark my word

I cant even tell you how much the OL improved
2nd year for Pugh
Upgrade everywhere else on the OL

Im hoping Beatty is not the starting LT and Charles Brown takes over he was OK with the saints he just needed a new fit, a new home, giants OL coaches will get him back up to par

With all those improvements on offense (I am the biggest nicks fan out there) I am glad he is GONE, lazy route running, seemed like he got in the head of randle who also ran the worst routes possible on those guess routes

Upgrade in my opinion with beckham, I watched every LSU game this year for a few reasons, I watch all college football games and I LOVE beckham wow this kid has talent

And most of all on offense, no more gillbride and his call 85 plays in the huddle and lets guess which play its going to be! No, new O cord with knowledge of how to run a modern day offense...Eli can only improve this year with the new OC, new RB (with depth), no more nicks, and no more of god awful meyers....

Losing linval sucked but I really believe hankins can fill in for him as a run stuffer he was a monster at Ohio State, i have faith in this DT group

Ayers I like him he wont get to the QB much but he is solid vet who can stop the run, fill his gaps and play smart ball and contain the edges

LB core upgraded with mcclain, you guys may not like him but he is an upgrade over rivers and this giants D was pretty solid most of second half last year

Beason will be fine for week 1 or 2 I hope because he is the key to this D

The upgrade at CB is huge, walter thurmond is an absolute BEAST and is the most underrated CB in the league, the skillset this guy has as a CB covering the slot is going to be huge for this team and will allow JPP and his wheelchair to get to the QB

Sorry this was not typed in proper format and there were probably 23 run on sentences but just real excited for the season to start and I am extremely optimistic going into the year

Giants are +320 to win the division those are some good odds take them while they last!

optimism is fine

sure there are a lot of question marks, but IF everything breaks right which is a possibility, this team will be very good

really, if eli and jpp return to 2011 form that alone makes this team a contender
I was pretty burned last year
Moondwg : 7/17/2014 9:23 am : link
I'd say I am cautiously hopeful.
I'm optimistic simply because
djl8699 : 7/17/2014 9:25 am : link
major changes were installed. A new OC, which many of us have been wanting even during the Super Bowl years, and a revamped secondary which has sparsely been a strength on this team.
If anything it should look like a different team than what we're accustomed to. I'm personally very excited to see what Eli and co. do in a new offensive system.
I am hopeful
pjcas18 : 7/17/2014 9:31 am : link
too, more than optimistic.

The OL was the biggest problem last year and I'd like to see them play before predicting a better running game or that they'll be able to protect Eli.

I'm not that impressed with Jennings, I think he's pretty average. I do think though Andre Williams could be the lead RB before the end of the season.

On defense, I like the secondary changes, but Stevie Brown for Will Hill is not a good trade.

On the DL, as maligned as he was, how are the Giants replacing Justin Tuck, how about Linval? with unproven players or potential downgrades (ayers and Hankins).

If Beckham is as advertised, WR can be special (assuming the OL can protect Eli), and our ST SHOULD be a weapon.

So, I'm hopeful, but I wouldn't say optimistic.

I'm not pessimistic, but hopeful is how I'd categorize it.

I have waited for years (despite our success)

for Eli to play in a more QB friendly offense. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
The OL should be better
Greg from LI : 7/17/2014 9:43 am : link
But I don't know that it's a "good" OL. It could be a big improvement on last year's version and still be below average.
Some comments above

made me think about the offense in 2011. Eli have the record for most comebacks in a year and 4th quarter TDs. however, he didn't do much in the first 3 quarters. he had approximately 10-12 tds in 48 quarters and 15 TDs in 16 quarters. Eli was throwing TDs in a fast paced offense. When in a hurry up or a high tempo offense, eli is money. This is the main reason why this season will be great.
the team will win and make the playoffs
aquidneck : 7/17/2014 9:57 am : link
I think TC's legacy is at stake. He won't come back at 69 in 2015 on the heals of two consecutive losing seasons.

Good to read your thoughts on Beckham.

I really wanted the Giants to draft Aaron Donald because I wanted the best playmaker. Once they drafted Beckham, I reviewed quite a bit of his tapes. He looks terrific. Great playmaker.

I know WRs take a few years to develop, but Beckham could get there quickly. Especially in this newer, simpler system. I think Beckham will make it a lot easier to put up with the loss of Nicks. Beckham is probably the 2nd best WR in this 2014 draft class.
I'm with Greg, the OL still
Lionhart28 : 7/17/2014 10:15 am : link
scares the shit out of me. Let's assume (big assumption) that Walton is back to roughly his 2011 level of play and that Schwartz is at least as good as he was in KC. That gives us 3 solid starting linemen. I expect additional improved from Pugh. Beatty is still a question mark for me and who knows if Snee can get on the field? If Snee can't? Mosely plays? Not pretty.
I am excited to see how Eli performs in the new system
Ben in Tampa : 7/17/2014 10:22 am : link
The guy won 2 Super Bowls in one of the most complex offenses in the NFL. We've seen him essentially will the team to championships with little support on offense, so it could be exciting if 10 gets hot with McAdoo.
I like yer style dude

There will be a huge upgrade in specials

The returners will be weapons and field position will become an advantage....
I am totally with you on this

So excited & can't wait to see this new offense in live action. I think the whole team will be energized this year. Let's hope we don't have half the injuries from last year & we'll be just fine. Feeling like this year is going to be special.
uncertainty

re: LT and the DEs (can Ayers and Moore step up?) and installing a new offense. I want to be optimistic but will have a better sense of where they are after a few preseason games.

Not concerned about Eli absorbing the new O - issue will be that everyone else has to keep up with learning curve.
Didn't Charles Brown grade out lower than Beatty
aimrocky : 7/17/2014 11:51 am : link
last year? I thought I saw that posted on the forum at one point.
I'm optimistic as well
USAF NYG Fan : 7/17/2014 12:02 pm : link
Pending no injuries from training camp.

We now have a lot of options on ST for returners so that alone might make it an upgrade.

The only concern I have right now for the OL is LT. I'm not sure Beatty can return to form. However, every other position is an upgrade IMHO. Add to that the up-tempo offense that gets the ball out quicker and the RBs. I believe these are also an upgrade.

DBs definetely improved although the Will Hill loss is a kick to the gut. DRC is the big question mark for me though. He played hard last year for the contract. Now that he's got the contract, will he still play hard? Hopefully Rolle will keep him straight.

LBs depend on the health of Beason. If Beason stays healthy, LB is an upgrade.

DL might be the only downgrade. Like many have said, if JPP returns to form we will be fine on DL. I don't think losing LJ is as big a deal as everyone believes but it is a loss none the less. Who will emerge as the other DE (Ayers, Kiwi, Moore)?

On to the receiving core. I believe Beckum will prove better than Nicks. A simpler offense should make things far easier for the receivers. However, do we have any decent receiving TEs or not? I don't think we do but I hope to be proven wrong.

Eli....Eli....Eli. Will this new offense show the rest of the league how good he really is or will it show he is not a short to immediate passer that's takes too many risks. I think we will see ELIte again. I just hope it doesn't take to long for the team to start rolling under this new system.
losing Beason and Hill has soured me a bit
oipolloi : 7/17/2014 12:54 pm : link
i was very positive after all the signings, but losing those two guys is huge imo

and i know people are saying Beason will be fine. But I don't believe it--not with his injury history.
If we are rolling on hope,
GiantFilthy : 7/17/2014 1:07 pm : link
I think it would be better to hope Beatty rediscovers the form that got him his contract instead of hoping Brown is decent enough to man the spot.
I am
PPO II : 7/18/2014 10:39 am : link
very optimistic for the upcoming season. I like all the new changes made to the Off an Def units. My main concern is can all the new changes gel as a team unit and be productive? Over all I see the G-men making the playoffs and having a 11-5 season. Go G-men
I know it's hard to believe,
Doomster : 7/18/2014 4:19 pm : link
but I am not.....

This OL is a huge question mark....

A new system may take time for everyone to be on the same page.....

What do we really have after Jennings?

No TE.....

Beason is questionable for the start of the year.....Can McClain actually play linebacker? After these 2 guys, there is nothing....

Will JPP return to form? Can Hankins replace LJ? Kiwi has to play better....Moore has to show he can stay on the field, and be able to play the run.....Jenkins is another year older.....the rest are just average at best.....

There are just too many question marks on this team....combine that with no depth, and one or two injuries will be a disaster......

It's more likely this team does not win the division.....if they don't, they don't make the playoffs....
I am happy about the change in offensive scheme as well
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/18/2014 7:53 pm : link
, though I respect Gilbride's X's and O's, I think it only works in ideal conditions which are too hard to meet in today's NFL.

However, it all comes down to the O-line. They dont' protect Eli and push off to establish a running game, then the scheme won't matter and it will be a repeat of last season.
One thing is for sure ...
baadbill : 7/18/2014 10:19 pm : link
tons of changes = lots of new things to watch = loads of fun watching the Giants this summer and into the regular season ... AND I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
