I happen to like both fullbacks a lot. Both have good hands and Hyno is a little more athletic but I think Conner is a better lead blocker.
In a traditional power running offense, Conner would be the better option but I think Hynoski is a much better fit for the new WC system McAdoo is bringing over from Green Bay.
Not sure if you guys saw this article I posted last week, but I dove into the stats (which I know mean little, but were still an interesting study). Conner isn't as bad of a receiver as people seem to think he is based on what he's done with is chances. Don't worry; it's not a slide show format. Link - ( New Window )
I've read the argument that the Hynocerous is the better pass catcher but didn't Connor catch everything thrown to him last year? I think Hyno has just had more pass catching opportunities than Connor. Other than pass catching, it seems everyone agrees that Connor is the better lead blocker. Last, and I might be wrong here too but I believe Connor is faster and has had more opportunity running with the rock.
Therefore, I believe Connor is the better option and better option in a WC offense as well.
The MCL shouldn't be an issue as he's more than a year removed. What I'm most concerned about is the shoulder. Granted, they were different people and different types of shoulder injuries, but things didn't end well for the last two Giants FBs who had shoulder injuries (Jim Finn and Madison Hedgecock).
Hopefully Hyno is at full strength--he really worked hard in the offseason to build himself back up and he didn't look like he's lost any bulk as a result of the injury. However, until he throws that first block and extends for that first pass, all we can do is hope.
Connor does everything better than Hynoski and has not been injured. Hynoski is a diligent hard worker who is a student of the game but Connor is more athletically talented. No brainer IMO.
The difference in our running game with him was significant, if not overly prove-able statistically, just pop in a game and watch defenders avoid Conner. He makes people not want to get hit, whereas Hyno is the opposite, everyone seems to want to tee off on him. COnner brings a lead blocking hammer this team has not seen since Mo Carthon. If we are serious about a ground game, he's the easy choice.
this job. Hynoski has had some nice moments, but I thought Conner consistently brought solid blocking and toughness onto the field for the Giants last season.
Pass receiving skills are close enough to be a push in this decision.

I like them both...and it's so interesting to read that The Giants could carry two FB's or none at all...
