NFT: Israeli Gov't says its launches ground offensive in Gaza

Ben in Tampa : 7/17/2014 4:14 pm
Just started to break, here is a link to the AP Story:

Quote:
Israeli forces on Thursday launched a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, the military said.

The operation came after 10 days of intense fighting between Israel and the Islamic militant Hamas, in which Israel hit more than 2,000 targets in Gaza and Hamas launched nearly 1,500 rockets at Israel.

The army said the offensive is meant to strike a "significant blow to Hamas' terror infrastructure."

It's always been said...if you want to get shit done, you have to put boots on the ground. Hopefully this is a short duration operation.
the news is going

back and forth between this and Ukraine it is nut.

So much chaos in our world right now.
There are two ways a cease fire will get done...

The UN will get involved and broker "peace" when:

1. Hamas runs out of missiles
2. Israel is on the doorstep of achieving a strategic gain

That accurately describes 66 years of Israeli history.
It's about time

The Silver lining is that

the PA and the Knesset (and the Arab League excepting Syria and Qatar) are closer than ever before. Hopefully all sides can harness this momentum to make everybody safer in the long run.
Apparently the UN found missiles in a school in Gaza

so much for 'the Israelis are the bad guys' theory.
My understanding is
Montreal Man : 7/17/2014 7:30 pm : link
they're trying to destroy the tunnels that lead to Israel and make it easy for Hamas to infiltrate and make mayhem. Hamas puts kids in the tunnel and Hamas leaders operate out of schools. It reminds me of Golda Meir's statement: "there will be peace when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us."

Really with THIS shit? Israel left Gaza to the Palestinians and ever since they've used it as a staging area to fire rockets at Israeli citizens. 70,000 of 'em over the years.

How many roman candles fired into your backyard by your neighbor would it take for you to go kick his ass?

These clowns crack me up.

I am not sure what sort of twisted moral equivalence would make this true.

Golda Meir quote still rings true-
rdt288 : 7/17/2014 9:07 pm : link

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us.”

Acknowledge a Cease-fire and zero children perish.
The UN comment would be more correct if you replaced UN with US
schabadoo : 7/17/2014 9:08 pm : link
We always stop them after they can do real damage. 1973 they could've rolled into Cairo, destroyed the 3rd Army but no, can't have that.

Yes, really with this shit. Israel could vaporize Palestine anytime it wants to. They fact that they haven't or don't even want to tells you all you need to know. Well, not you, your a lost cause.

I'm sure it was just a tech school to teach Palestinian youth a good vocation. It wasn't next door to the milk factory, was it?

Still trying to be a bully? Or was that funny?

Guess what asshole, you don't tell me what to post. And you're still a jackass.

Giantology, try not to be stupid on this issue. The Arabs here simply will not accept a Jewish state here.

Until they are willing, they are the perpetrators of war here.

Here's a solid report from the Reuters news agency.

Israeli media said the army appeared to be probing northern and southern frontier zones for cross-border tunnels, Palestinian command bunkers and buried rocket silos.

I'm pretty sure all 3 structures, the tunnels, silos, and command bunkers, are something Israel cannot effectively demolish from the air. At the very least, Hamas would have learned something about building underground fortified structures from Hezbollah or their allies, which were a real bitch to attack and destroy in Southern Lebanon in that war a few years ago.

And they've got to be doing something with all the European, UN and even US aid they receive besides stealing it a la Arafat. They aren't much spending on civilian infrastructure as far as I know or can see, and I work one day a week in Hevron.
