if we can get something good for him. Aside from that, I wouldn't look to do much else. I definitely wouldn't trade prospects in an attempt to make one more run for Jeter. I would be ok trading Robertson, putting Betances in the closer role and bringing up some young guys and see if we can make a run like that. Trading Kuroda at this point would be giving up, IMO. I'd re-evaluate where they are at the deadline before trading Kuroda.
Aside from that, I'm not sure who else we have that could net some good prospects. I wouldn't trade Gardner unless it's for a good young pitcher and that's not happening.
but they will make the same mistake they did last year. Last year they wanted to be at least in the race for Mo's last season, even though they should have traded Cano. This year, with an extra Wild Card, a crappy AL East, and Jeter's last year, they won't sell either. As mentioned above, they don't have much people want. Robertson has the most value, and they probably should move him and let's see what Betances can do as the closer...but they won't do that.
If they won't sell, I hope they just don't buy and use up any kind of decent trade chips on the farm or bring in some other older guy/bad contract.
Cashman will do what he usually does, scour the DFA scrap heap for anyone, look for an older guy with a bad contract to absorb, and hope that his pitchers get healthy and he gets some of his starters back in August from injury and he'll proclaim "it's just like a trade".
the stupid thing is he is exactly what this team needs. A middle of the order power bat. I have no idea why this team keeps passing on talented Cuban players. They could have used pretty much all of them to stay as contenders.
RE: Didn't the Yankees just go nuts on international FA's?
the Yankees prize from last year is really struggling as a 16 year old. It could take 5 to 6 years for him to reach the majors.
Andujar really struggled his first year in the GCL and then destroyed the GCL last year. Torrens struggled in his first stateside year too (last year) and now is destroying the NYP.
I bet the Yankees find some way to send middling prospects
both still have a long road ahead of them. Watching most of our prospects struggle when they get to Tampa or Trenton really gives me pause. You would like to get excited about them, but you also don't want to get so excited to the point where it ends in disappointment. The only player right now that we can say with certainty that has a chance to be a good major leaguer is Refsnyder.

We haven't had a phenom at the plate in awhile. Montero was close but even he was pretty much a level a year because of position.
I think he's the only 16 year old in the GCL. He's doing fine considering he's so much younger than everyone else and we won't see what it means for awhile.
As for the IFA's from earlier this month, most of them are 5/6 years away, but some are a little older and could be 4 years aways, and who knows about the pitchers.
As for phenoms, Andujar is probably as good a candidate as any. Tearing the cover off the ball lately, took awhile to adjust to day games. Really struggling against lefties and he'll have to work on that, but he does just about everything well.
who has a fair contract. Moving him makes zero sense, plus there are not many players with his skill set. Great lead off guys, steals bases, plays a spectacular OF, he strikes out a little too much, but who doesn't?
You're right of course. The Yankees should trade all the garbage they've accumulated over the last few years.
Teams will stand in line to give up their best prospects. Then they can keep Gardner and maybe get into the playoffs.
I know it's easy to criticize the splurge and the lack of international successes, but it's also reasonable to remember this team has lost 4/5 of their opening day rotation. Any intellectually honest fan realizes that is shitty, shitty luck. The Sox last year were the latest reminder health and vet talent are big chips in winning. If the Yanks don't lose just Pineda and Tanaka and BM had a career average year we are probably +4 games in the loss column.
but the lineup is nothing special and was relying on a lot to come together. Roberts to stay healthy, Teix to stay healthy and produce, lightning to strike on someone playing 3B. The closest thing to a "known" in the infield was a 40 year old singles hitter playing SS and recovering from an ankle injury.
I would have to guess quite a bit is riding on Cliff Lee's
for someone like Brandon McCarthy. Someone that won't cost a lot. I don't think they are going to trade for Cliff Lee because he has ridiculous money still owed to him and can't stay healthy.
but hopefully it is someone like Brandon McCarthy and doesn't cost much. All these injuries should be a reasonable message to them that this ain't their year.
they are within striking distance since the division is weak so they will probably do their best to stay in it. I know Cashman usually likes to go bargain hunting so hopefully he sticks with that.

Probably closer to five years. Maybe a phenom could do it in 3-4, but the best won't get stateside until next spring.

The reason he makes any sense at all for the Yankees is because they won't have to decimate the farm for him.
But, for any young top rotation guy, they would have to decimate the farm.
Thus, since we both know they will trade for a starter, that must be the formula that makes sense to you.
Do you ever get tired of being full of shit?
