I'd rather have Boyle than Glass and Stepniak. At least BBB could win faceoffs, play a great PK and be relatively physical when he played wing on the 4th line. WTF is it with Sather?
Lose two thirds of a fourth line that played huge minutes to a final run, a top 4 defenseman and a big part of a very productive 2/3rd line and while some of them got more than they're worth, they get replaced by an old ass defenseman and a bunch of waiver fodder, while blocking all young guys knocking at the door.
And don't give me this shit about "fighting for spots", there's still a cap hit for sending vets down, so we know that won't happen..
And its not like they're getting bigger or tougher to play against..
Then the next stage will be putting the screws to the rfa's that are actually productive..
Tanner Glass, joey bag of Lombardi and Lee fuckin stempniak?
I remember watching both play in college and I hated watching my team go up against Stempniak because whatever we seemed to try he would always get points. Jessiman, if you were physical with him, you could take him out of the game. When he has been given top 9 minutes (on a team that actually cares about getting offensive production out of the third line) he has been a 35-45 point player and his +/- is not bad fora guy who does not exactly get loads of power play time and has played on some awful teams in his career
for a 3rd, possible 4th liner if some of the kids show improvement. Oh yes, the world is coming to an end and the season is already over for the Eastern Conference champs. Damn the fact he brings more consistent point production than Brian Boyle. The top 6 is still very intact and the D is still very deep and one of the best in the NHL. Jesus H Christ the drama queens out there are a hoot.
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie 7m
Stempniak in at one year, $900.000 for #NYR. Who else didn't play well for Pens against NYR in playoffs that team can sign?
A bottom-six guy with some skill, who will provide PK and veteran leadership? I'll take it for that cap hit.
Now, lock up Zuccs, Brassard and Kreider and sign Kevin Hayes and maybe make a minor trade or two to shore up the roster and clear some cap space.
had two more points than Stempniak last year. Edmonton signed Pouliot for $20 mil over 5 years. We got Stempniak for 1 year, $900k. Love you Slats, you magnificent, cigar-chomping, scotch-swilling motherfucker!
Kreider - Stepan - St. Louis
Nash - Brassard - Zuccarello
Hagelin - Miller - Stempniak
Glass - Moore - Lombardi
McDonagh Girardi
Staal Boyle
Moore Klein
Well...we downgraded as a whole from last year, but IDK, I still think we're a playoff team. I could see Sather still making a trade for a Top-6 C and using JT Miller and Danny Kristo as trade bait, but I could also see Sather calling it a day.

Hey, Slats has made significant investment in the fourth line:
Sather lets his biggest player walk and signs a bunch of journeymen who are under six feet
In general, I'm probably one of the biggest Sather supporters on here, and I like the signing of Danny Boyle a lot. But these "little" moves are always Slats' downfall.
over Stralman, especially with the shorter term. He can play the PP, and there is no reason to believe that Klein cant step up into Stralman's space on the second pairing. Remember whoever is on that pairing will be playing with Staal, so there is no reason to expect a drop off in production from that pairing.
I dont mind the Stempniak signing. He can play third/fourth line minutes, occasionally score, plays sound defensively. The Rangers weren't going out and splurging on big name guys with their cap situation, and this signing fits the mold of the bargain basement shopping sather has done the past few seasons with some success.
Sign the RFAs to team friendly deals and no-one will be complaining looking back on this offseason. Wringing your hands about Lombardi/Stempniak/Glass makes little sense in the grand scheme of things
We could have afforded Stralman if we didn't sign Dan Boyle.
Brian Boyle wanted a third line role. He wasn't going to get one here.
I don't buy it. Boyle had a huge role in the postseason, and AV showed tremendous confidence in him. The 25 playoff games last year are the total highlight of his career.
Third/fourth liners like Boyle are going to go for the money because their career earning potential is limited. So, if Boyle did not sign with Rangers, it is because Sather did not offer him the same money as TB.

Since their earning potential is limited, they need to maximize that potential. Playing on the 3rd line somewhere else over the next 3 years could set him up to have better seasons and therefore get a bigger contract next time around.
Living out in the Bay Area, I watch a lot of Shark games, both on TV and in person (Tank is a lot of fun)
Danny Boyle has the best ice vision I have ever seen. Great outlet passes. Tremendous at bringing the puck up the center of the ice. That's where the Kings killed the Rangers--forcing them to the sides.
At 37, he is obviously not the same player he was five years ago. But is still a huge upgrade on offense. Where he will hurt you a bit is in your own end. But it will be worth the tradeoff.

Boyle is going to be 30 next season. I don't think he is trying to set up a bigger payday down the road. This will probably be the biggest contract he ever gets. That's why he took the money with TB.

Vigneault told him that he'd have the same role next season. He said so on breakup day. Sather could have offered him the same amount.

However, it would be much better if we didn't give Tanner fucking Glass 1.5 AAV. What a pointless signing
Can we please get Zucc, Kreider and Brassard locked up?

Hey, Slats has made significant investment in the fourth line:
Boyle is his big fuck up. The way BB played in the postseason, 3/6 is an absolute steal.
