(1) Cox over Hillis. Hillis is a journeyman veteran. Cox is younger, was a draft pick, and has some return ability. It’s less likely a team will pick him up than Hillis.
(2) Manningham starts on the PUP. That creates an opening for one of the other WRs noted in your cuts.
(3) TE is a mess. Aside from Robinson, anyone could be cut, anyone could make the team. I just don’t think we’re going to get much out of this group this year. Robinsion doesn’t have a single catch, and the rest are either veteran journeyman, or with Grimble, a rookie UDFA.
(4) Good call on the OL. I will say that Gaines is a guy who could land on the PS. As far as Brewer is concerned, this camp is absolutely his last chance. The irony is that he still has a chance. We are so unsettled at LT, that a good showing by him at the position could keep him on the roster as a backup. I don’t think it will happen, but it’s surprising that someone who has done so little still has any chance to make the roster. He has no chance at guard IMO.
folks think that Snee would retire when he could just make the team either put him on IR or release him with an injury settlement and walk away with a significant extra chunk of change in his pocket.
As for Snee, I'm gonna predict that he fails his physical, collects his $1M injury protection benefit, and announces his retirement.
Quote:
The Injury Protection Benefit is a benefit available to a player if he meets the following criteria: (1) Suffers an injury in an NFL game or practice which causes him to be unable to play in all or part of the last game of the season of injury, or, which results in club-authorized offseason surgery; (2) Undergoes reasonable and customary club-required rehabilitation in the offseason following the injury; and (3) Fails the club’s preseason physical for the season following the injury and his contract is terminated.
can still potentially develop like Cox or Gaskins? Hillis is tough guy but fairly straight ahead runner that isn't going to make anybody miss in this league and that style is not exactly in demand, and now we have Williams.
Also, Giants picked Hillis off the street so is there that much of a risk that he wouldn't be available if needed?
because they are going to take plenty of hits in this new style offense, and likely a lot from guys coming downhill.
Add in Eli's tendencies to make a receiver reach a bit, and we may have plenty of guys dinged up on a game-to-game basis, and probably need to keep 6 WRs on the roster at all times.
Hopefully McAdoo is teaching them to hit the turf sometimes versus taking the hit...
Both have their strengths. Like Cox's athleticism and upside but Hillis is probably the better football player at this point. And he could be the short yardage back and emergency fullback you would think.
I think Manninhamm will pass his physical. He'd be a great addition as the #4/5 WR.

Cox should be gone if Wilson is healthy. Cox will get next to no work at RB except on the scout team if that's the case. Never mind Williams will not be cut as a rookie unless he looks like a total miss. Wilson and he are young guys with much higher upside than Cox. And Hillis is a vet who can catch and most likely step in on a moments notice. It's not like Cox flashed some huge potential that I missed if he did
Hillis is a proven pro, he is way more accomplished than Cox Â
....he can play FB in a pinch. With no Pascoe on the roster, an emergency FB is needed and he is perfect for that role.
And as a few have mentioned already, the guy has talent, he is versatile, he is in great shape and he can be used as a 3rd down/goal line/short yardage back.
Whether Chris Snee is capable of playing a full 16-game schedule is questionable at best. My guess is Tom Coughlin will make the same mistake the team has in the past with injured and fading players on the offensive line and give Snee most of the first-team reps in camp and allow him to start the season. It may be best to start Jerry, Mosley, or Richburg and cut ties with Snee.
I can't agree more. IMO, and I'm no coach but it seems damn stupid to have Snee hanging around this team when we are moving to a new Oline. He'll be taking precious snaps away from the guy who will be our RG. I'm actually pissed off about this. I wanted Snee cut when Diehl was cut. I have no idea why they hang onto him but it's time to let the veteran warrior ride off into the sunset.
Unless we trade (and I hope we do) for an NFL caliber TE Â
I would only keep 2 TEs on the roster and add an extra RB, DB, OL, or WR. I don't care how you slice it, we don't have 3 keepers in the current group of 5 TEs.
You guys sound like your voting him into pro bowl or something. Hillis was sitting on his couch when the Giants called him up last season.
I am not saying Cox or Gaskins are special or should be guaranteed a roster spot, but all things being equal, I would go with the younger guys with less mileage and more burst. They also probably play special teams more than Hillis does too(not certain though).
rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 TD's in 2010. In Cleveland, Cleveland of all places!
His issue isn't talent, his issue is the ability to stay on the field. Add in his versatility and his short yardage ability and he is a great option in the backfield.
I was not that impressed with Cox last season and I was excited about him when he was drafted. Seemed too eager to bounce to the outside even then running lanes between the tackles were open. Unless he improved markedly, I highly doubt he beats out Hillis. Not a big deal to cut bait with a 7th round pick who will be 26 before the end of the season.
Gaskins is interesting being that he is a local kid (from Burlington, NJ) and he has great size at 6'1", 238 pounds. Quick feet and he can catch the football. It seems as if the coaching staff likes him and that he has some ability, but he is so raw that I'm not sure he can be counted on. Seems like a prime candidate for the practice squad.
At this point, as long as Wilson is cleared, I'd be real surprised if the RB depth chart did not look like Jennings, Wilson, Williams and Hillis.

But that's what happens when you don't have any legit players at a position-you wind up keeping extra guys as a form of compensation
no surprises, only why is Snee a notable cut when you say he'll retire.
I can buy him retiring, not being cut.
I also can see a scenario where Holliday is cut. The Giants have multiple weapons at KR, including Demps. Both Demps and Holliday are really only special teamers. If either one is playing positionally I don't think that will be a good thing.

Meant to say it's less likely a team will pick up Hillis than Cox.
was awful last year, returning kicks and in the limited RB duty. he was a 7th round pick and lasted longer than many 7th round picks.
Hillis is better than him in every possible way. I don't see Cox making it over him because he was a draft pick, not to mention there are at least three KR's better than Cox currently on the roster.
get my votes. Hillis has a big advantage over Cox in that he is a superior pass blocker, has a way of finding soft spots in the secondary and is a good receiver. He always makes positive yardage, while Cox often did not even make it back to the line of scrimmage. Cox's run back abilities pale besides those of Wilson, Holliday, & Demps.
I do not recognize the descriptions of Conners & Hynoski. From what I have seen, Hynoski is the better athlete, both as runner (I saw this behemoth leap over a would-tackler once) & as a pass receiver. My only question is whether or not he has fully recovered from his injuries.
My biggest question is about LT. I was never impressed with Beatty , even in his previous season. Despite his obvious athleticism, he never seemed to have the toughness needed for that position. However, I see no replacement for him except Brown, & that guy is a complete mystery for me. His being released by a rebuilding Saints team does not bode well either. Has anyone seen him in action, if so what do you think?
Eli does not pass well from a prone position & the Gints allowed 40 sacks last season. Therefore, in my mind, protecting Eli should have been their no. 1 priority this season. I can only keep my fingers crossed.
He is the wild card here. I don't have to tell you guys how important he can be for our offense. If they shut him down again this year its going to hurt big time. Keep your fingers crossed.

Manningham's health will be the difference. Special teams play of any reserve wr will be important re: making the team.
As for Snee, I'm gonna predict that he fails his physical, collects his $1M injury protection benefit, and announces his retirement.
Brown can play both. I believe Mosley and Jerry can also play RT.
Also, Giants picked Hillis off the street so is there that much of a risk that he wouldn't be available if needed?
With all the krs The front office brought in over the offseason I don't see a ST role for Cox
If Davis makes this team I will be shocked. He showed less than nothing when with da Bears
I see him as possible 3rd down back.

I think you all have the OL nailed down pretty well - wit the 2 guys in question.
I'm hopeful that you are correct that the GIants only keep 2 QBs. Painter is a wasted spot. They could always resign him if they need to.
