NFT: Mets @ Padres rubber match (in progress)

Deej : 7/20/2014 5:59 pm
1-0 Padres, thru 7 1/3. 27 year old Cuban rookie Despaigne is no hitting us. Heart of the order up right now.

Disgusting

This is why I hated that the break came
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:02 pm : link
just when they were playing their best ball of the season.

But only one run down so they can still easily pull this out.
Despaigne is good
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:03 pm : link
guy doesnt have overpowering stuff, but what he throws is just confusing. Will be interesting to see if his success lasts in his 2nd time thru the league.
Lagares has been clutch all season
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:05 pm : link
can tie it right here with a hit.
bases loaded
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:08 pm : link
It is up to Tejada.
Loaded for Tejada
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:08 pm : link
Still being no-hit though.
Ugh
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:08 pm : link
Why swing at first pitch there?
And still being no hit
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:09 pm : link
into the 7th inning stretch. The "well hit" balls have been few and far between today.
Come one
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:10 pm : link
Pitcher is having control problems and he swings first to pitches and is out. Make him get a few over!
first *two*
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:10 pm : link
.
They really need a back up infielder that can play ss on the bench
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:12 pm : link
so they can pinch hit for Tejada in those spots.
No hit through 7 now
95cobraguy : 7/20/2014 6:12 pm : link
Well, their offensive surge didn't last long.
I think the policy would be take the first pitch
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:13 pm : link
but it was a fastball strike from a guy who throws 90. You kind of have to swing at that. Though it's a bit sad that we couldnt PH for Tejada there.

Eveland in for Wheeler
Is Campbell injured?
Phil in Joisey : 7/20/2014 6:14 pm : link
Had to pinch-hit Campbell there if he's okay.
sucks for Wheeler
spike : 7/20/2014 6:14 pm : link
Mets offense is getting old again. W deserves a Win
Kirk
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:25 pm : link
Is going to get a hit!
Ug

Crowd is disgustingly quiet
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:29 pm : link
It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon game and your rookie pitcher is 5 outs from the first no hitter in franchise history.
All Star!!
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:33 pm : link
Murphy with the 2-out 2B
Way to go Murphy
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:33 pm : link
Now DW needs to earn some of that money.
Come on wright dammit
95cobraguy : 7/20/2014 6:35 pm : link
Hit to the gap please
Tie game!!
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:36 pm : link
Wright RBI single. Pitching change coming.
Thata boy wright

They never quit, these NY Mets!
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:37 pm : link
I almost feel sorry for the rookie pitcher, but not that much (grin)
Travis has been hot
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:42 pm : link
Just one more hit.
Cant wait until society moves on from
Deej : 7/20/2014 6:45 pm : link
"playoff" beards being stylish. SD pitcher looks homeless.
Well that sucks
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:50 pm : link
.
Now that is some good baseball right there
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 6:56 pm : link

Big DP right there

This team just invents ways to lose.
arcarsenal : 7/20/2014 7:20 pm : link
It's unbelievable.
What
sshin05 : 7/20/2014 7:21 pm : link
A cheap way to lose
Just unreal
steve in ky : 7/20/2014 7:21 pm : link
.
And that's our Mets...
PhiPsi125 : 7/20/2014 7:24 pm : link
This is why I can't ever get excited with this team. Have a nice 10 game stretch and then lose a series to one of the worst teams in baseball.
Just absolutely could not lose a series to a pitiful Padres team..
arcarsenal : 7/20/2014 7:24 pm : link
Coming off a really encouraging end to the first half, winning the first game and looking really good.. to drop the next 2 and lose this series is just not acceptable. You can't have that happen if you're really going to turn a corner here.
that's the way bad teams lose
oipolloi : 7/20/2014 7:26 pm : link
in terms of talent, the Mets are probably a .500 team or maybe slightly better. But on this team, the total is less than the sum of the parts.
Good teams
Deej : 7/20/2014 7:34 pm : link
dont drop a series to a dismantling Padres team. Period.
Fucking pathetic
95cobraguy : 7/20/2014 7:36 pm : link
.
Well, I don't think anyone's confusing the Mets for a good team.
arcarsenal : 7/20/2014 7:36 pm : link
Unfortunately.
It takes incredible creativity
Phil in Joisey : 7/20/2014 9:11 pm : link
to lose a game on two simple ground balls to the pitcher. Only the Mets could accomplish such a pitiful feat. I'm afraid the journey back to .500 is headed in the other direction.
Fun to watch Mets fans leap off the bandwagon after a game or two
Gary from The East End : Admin : 7/20/2014 9:40 pm : link
The Mets are a better team now than they were at the beginning of the season, but it's not like they're actually a good team. Not yet. There are still pieces missing.

And come on, even good teams drop a deuce in the punchbowl now and again.
Jumping off the bandwagon?
arcarsenal : 7/20/2014 9:49 pm : link
The fact that most of us are still watching every game after these last handful of years pretty much nixes the idea of being anything remotely resembling bandwagon fans at all.

It was just a frustrating loss. They were playing really encouraging ball before the break and looked like they were going to keep it going after Friday night. Dropping 1 would have been fine. But you can't lose games like this and lose series' to shitty teams if you want to really turn this around. It's just unacceptable. I'm tired of saying "well, it happens.. oh well! Next time"

Wheeler was really good today and he looks like he's settling in nicely and really becoming that pitcher we thought we got to begin with. These types of losses have just been so fucking Metsian over the years and it's very frustrating.
LOL
pjcas18 : 7/20/2014 9:52 pm : link
Bandwagon Mets fans.

if we win 2 of 3 or better vs seattle it is fine
CG...
arcarsenal : 7/20/2014 9:54 pm : link
Sure but the Mariners are a better team than the Pads so it's far from a given. We'll see what happens.

for some reason we play better vs the better teams and seattle not pitching king felix gives us a chance
Would love to see Flores get called up for AL park games
Deej : 7/20/2014 10:11 pm : link
21 game hitting streak in AAA. Is it really so necessary that we start two of our offensively inept LFs when playing in AL parks?
Gary, did you watch the game today?

Zach Wheeler from ESPN
spike : 7/21/2014 12:01 am : link
"v Despite taking the no decision, Wheelers has allowed one run in each of his last four starts. After a weak June that saw his ERA rise to 4.25, Wheeler's three starts in July have lowered it to 3.78 on the season. Wheeler is also keeping up his strikeout rate, retiring 17 batters on strikes in the last three games. He ranks 26th in the league with 112 strikeouts."

ZW has allowed just 1 run in each of his last four starts.

Has really settled in nicely.
Last 2 games
Headhunter : 7/21/2014 7:47 am : link
not so much fun. It's baseball, sometimes the other guy that is 60'6" 's with the ball in his hand is in control. It happens. On to the next one
