NFT: Mets @ Padres rubber match (in progress)

Deej : 7/20/2014 5:59 pm
1-0 Padres, thru 7 1/3. 27 year old Cuban rookie Despaigne is no hitting us. Heart of the order up right now.

Disgusting

Not looking forward to watching this lineup try to hit Iwakuma.

never thought I'dd see those words typed together this decade lol
I think he meant the up and down reactions of the fans
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/21/2014 9:46 am : link
not 'bandwagon'.

Last week ZGiants was leading the parade down the canyon of heroes.
well
feelflows : 7/21/2014 9:48 am : link
I think there are extremes going both ways with some of the Mets posters on BBI.

prospects by some are vastly over-hyped. also, when young guys do poorly one start they are duds.

best thing to do with a young team is take the ups and downs in stride. I DO think some on here do that.
Yeah, not so much the bandwagon

As some of the fans who have gotten a bit high from a little win streak.

It was mostly a joke, though. Well, half a joke.

I don't know. I think people just wanted to see this team take a series from a shitty team to start the 2nd half. Didn't think it was so much to ask.

Oh well. On we go.

Puma reporting 0 interest in Bartolo Colon as of yesterday. If he's moved I suspect it's post deadline to a desperate playoff contender. Padres should get a sweet bounty for Benoit, just like they did for Street.

half joke or not, I still chuckled.

there are some posters who get a little carried away, but that's fandom! enthusiasm isn't a bad thing, I guess.

I've just been a fan of this team too long to get overly excited.

I think we have one guy who gets really carried away. That's about it. The majority of the Met fans here are generally pessimistic and of the "prove it" variety.

padres seem to be
sshin05 : 7/21/2014 1:00 pm : link
always in rebuilding mode. Last time they were in the post season was in '06 and actually won 90 games in 2010 but missed the playoffs. They should just sell everybody and restart the whole damn thing.
Padres

have been ridiculously "unlucky" Headley being a 1 year wonder obviously hurt them and the Latos deal (on paper could have really changed the franchise) has been a total bust. Alonso sucks and Grandal sucks. Gyorko was seen as a potential breakout player coming off his strong rookie season and has been utterly awful, Venable last year very good, this year awful and Cashner very good but hurt. Cashner for Rizzo looks bad right about now (I like Cashner but still).
Typical Mets
speedywheels : 7/21/2014 2:16 pm : link
Pique our interest by playing really good ball before the break, then lay an egg the series right after.

Sigh...
Of happy about this Colon leak
Shecky : 7/21/2014 2:47 pm : link
That was done 100% intentionally because they don't plan on moving him. Obviously if someone offers them something they can't refuse that's another story. But find me one Mets fan who doesn't think its a no brainer to move him? Yet the front office is so worried about the message trading him would send to those exact same fans.

I know they are looking for a "swing for the fences×´ move - but I hate their paralysis when it comes down to the "message to the fan" moves.

they talked to 1 team about him. don't know the team though
It's easy to say trade Colon
Deej : 7/21/2014 2:59 pm : link
He doesnt look good over his last 4 starts. What exactly is his role on a playoff team? Would he be a #3 starter, or a little used #4? And then you'd have to pay him for 2015. I guess a team that has good front end SPs but is really lacking for quality starts out of the backend could use him.

I think if the Mets trade Colon right now, they're picking up some of his salary and getting a Grade C prospect or two. Maybe if they hold him thru August he'll be pitching better, but then he is giving fewer regular season starts. Make no mistake though -- he's not this season's Marlon Byrd. We're not getting a return close to Byrd for Colon.
A contender won't see the value of a Colon?
Shecky : 7/21/2014 3:10 pm : link
A very veteran pitcher. Who in the past three years is top 30 in FiP in all if baseball. And 45th this year. Not a David Price obviously, which is why he doesn't cost what Price will cost. His contract is fair, not an albatross.

Colon obviously has some value, but it's pretty telling that after a 5 WAR season all he could get was 20/2. I dont think any GM is excited about telling him owner that they're trading for 15 million dollars left on a 41 year old pitcher. I dont think any GM is salivating over rolling out Colon out in game 3 of a playoff round. There's a reason the market on Colon seems cool. The market for him may be better in August or the offseason. I have no problem holding him until December.
Here
DanMetroMan : 7/21/2014 4:45 pm : link
is the quote According to a source, as of Sunday the Mets had not yet received even a nibble on the 41-year-old right-hander, who is expendable because of the club’s starting-pitching depth.

interested in Rios, A's interested in Franklin.
I personally don't care if we trade Colon or not.
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2014 8:09 pm : link
Assuming he has a pretty good year, which he is, he'll have value in the offseason. What's the rush?
Hold onto Colon
spike : 7/21/2014 8:20 pm : link
a team might get desperate
I mean I get that everyone
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2014 8:25 pm : link
always starts panting around the trading deadline and wants a move just to make a move but what does trading Colon right now really do for us? Isn't the point of trading him to clear his 11 million next year and re-open a spot for Harvey? Well all that can still happen later. Syndergaard and Montero seem like they still need seasoning. Harvey likely isn't pitching this year. What's the hurry? If a team gets desperate sure but Im not really worried about it right now.
I remember how pissed everyone
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2014 8:26 pm : link
was last year when we didn't trade Byrd at the deadline. How did that turn out?
