Excited to see what Wilson can do in this new offense which will feature RB's in the passing game and in open space. He could still end up being our top back this season.
Because he simply isn't a starting RB in this league.
LOL! I'll wait to see if he can learn how to block before jumping to that conclusion. If he can improve his blocking skills and stay healthy, I think there's a very good chance he can be an above average starting rb in this league.
He has come back fully. No reason to think with HSS and the all the Giants medical staff clearing him he is not fully back. Our staff is overly cautious with necks.
I hope he's the starter by mid yr. He has the speed and playmaking ability to be a top 5 rb in this league. Jennings is all around very good but limited upside. Wilson has good hands too, caught a few 10+ yard passes, two of them against the Eagles. If the line can open up some holes, Wilson is going to rip off some Chris Johnson like runs this yr.
is the time from fusion. They say a fuse starts quickly withing the first 2 months, but doesn't fully harden until 6-12 months. Obviously each case is different but i'd be hesitant letting him start the season so soon. Allowing an extra 6 weeks could be huge for the finishing stages of the healing process; I'd highly consider PUPing him.
There's also the fact that he can't find a hole with a roadmap, and that he routinely loses yards when he chooses to do his Barry Sanders routine instead of simply taking the 2-3 yards the defense is giving him. You can do that if you're Barry Sanders. David Wilson is not Barry Sanders.
use a 1st rd. pick so they could sprinkle him into the offense. They badly want him to blossom into a play making beast (similar to Mccoy) and will give him every opportunity to do so Imo. Jennings is 29 and might give us 2 or 3 yrs max. They're not talking Wilson up much because of the health concerns but I think the coaches have big plans for him.
could be a weapon catching balls out of the backfield
Because he simply isn't a starting RB in this league.
I don't think he was even necessarily drafted to be a 25 per-game carry back. He can be wildly successful if we can get him the ball in space, on screens (LOL), etc.
And I think injuries hurt him more than most because he needed the time to develop his vision at this level. He simply can't consistently get away with the shit he did in college because his athleticism advantage isn't as great.
if this was the same exact team as it was when he was running. But with a new o-line that should be an improvement and a new OC, I expect big improvements for the offense overall.
Pocket Rocket. Now there's a term you seldom see anymore to
you can hate him all you want for being from VT, but give the man a fair shake atleast. He's shown plenty of flashes and then got dealt a really bad hand with a terrible injury.
He averaged 5 yards a clip 2 years ago. He was fine.
Sure, his vision isn't elite or even great but his physical ability is undeniable and I don't think he's incapable of becoming a smarter player.
I'd rather a guy have the physical ability and be taught than have one of those really smart, instinctive guys who just don't have the athleticism to be a next-level player.
I'm looking forward to see how McAdoo uses Wilson. I think he's gonna make plays.

Yes, he did, but he was never the same player again either. #bigday
We use a rotation anyway (or at least have used some sort of rotation) so starting may not matter. I think many are way over-estimating what this guy will do.
between Jennings in FA and Williams in the draft, he doesn't have to go into the season expecting to carry the full load
Look forward to seeing McAdoo use him...I can see Jennings and Wilson both in the game, with Wilson motioning wide...giving us 2 RBs who can move and catch the ball
Now, Wilson needs to make sure he holds onto it too...obviously
But he can certainly develop the necessary traits to become a great back. He has the talents that can't be taught. Maybe this is his year to bust out. Tiki did in year 3. That was the 1999 season and by the end of that year tiki was an electric player out of the back field. He had close to 70 receptions. Everyone points to the 2000 season as tiki's breakout but really it was 99 where the light bulb seemed to flick on for him.
part of the criticism w/gilbride was not finding creative ways to get his playmakers the ball. perhaps mcadoo will get wilson and trindon holliday the ball like darren sproles and percy harvin are used
If he goes on to make a Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles type impact...
...Wilson will be well worth the #32 pick. The Giants have Jennings and Williams to bang heads with defensive tackles.
At the same stage of his career in 1999, Tiki Barber entered camp a year older than Wilson, a third-down back recovering from a bad case of the drops, fifth on the RB depth chart behind Gary Brown, Joe Montgomery, LeShon Johnson and Sean Bennett. David Wilson just turned 23. There are older rookies all over the NFL. (Our own Devon Kennard is just nine days younger.) I think it's a little early to make judgments.
100 of those 358 yards came against what was quite possibly
the worst defense in NFL history, the 2012 Saints.
In any case, if you want to wave 2012 as some kind of banner, be my guest. He had a couple of good games against that horrific Saints defense and the waving-the-white-flag Eagles. Yay.
He's a great return man, yes. That has absolutely nothing to do with his play at running back.

So, I disagree with the observation quite a bit and wonder what you were watching.
Deepest group of RBs we've had since I can remember.
Guess your memory sucks, since 5 years ago we had Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw. Right now we have a decent free agent, a guy with a fused spine who's accomplished virtually nothing in two NFL seasons, and a 4th round draft pick.
(Also hoping he's improved at blocking & ball security.)
Goes without saying, of course this is only good news if its truly safe.
Big year for Jennings/wilson combo

just doesn't seem like a guy who can run between the tackles--but then again neither did Tiki after two years

Just my $0.02. Happy he's cleared.
Wilson cleared. Good News for us!!

2 years ago he had a 5.0 ypc and 4 TDs in limited carries (71). Not too shabby for a rookie. And... he was dynamic when returning kickoffs too.
Tiki had only 3.8/3.2/4.2 ypc his first 3 years.
Yes, he did, but he was never the same player again either. #bigday
Giants David Wilson Recives Medical Clearance - ( New Window )
Greg are you referring to 2012, where had had almost twice as many carries as 2013, averaged 5.0 yds/carry, and set records in the return game?
You seem to be rooting for this guy to fail.

Exactly, maybe the screen pass can be used more in this offense.
Great news.
