If the hole isn't really there and he's looking at a 2-3 yard carry, he'll start reversing field and end up losing yardage. And since his field vision sucks, he can't find a crease when the hole isn't there as drawn up.
is better than BJ, AB, and Ward.....you're just not watching.
I think Jennings is a nice back, but both Wilson and our draft pick from BC are huge question marks.
I don't see Wilson being strong enough to be a between the tackles runner consistently. They are going to have to pick their spots with him.
And I'm with Greg on Wilson, they only thing he's shown is the ability to acclerate through a wide open hole, not block, and not hold onto the football.

His issues between the tackles have nothing to do with his strength. He's built like a truck and he's a very strong dude.
How can you make judgments on Jennings and Williams Â
when they haven't played a game in a Giants uniform yet? You can't say they'll be great, and you can't say they'll stink. You just don't know yet.
And Ward and Bradshaw were both 7th-round picks who made the most of their skill sets when they just happened to play behind a terrific Giants o-line. If this rebuilt Giants o-line becomes a good one, Jennings and Williams will have a much better chance at being productive, obviously. And that's just another "if".
Here we have the most talented, speedy back with the most potential in a long time and because the o-line was pathetic and Gilbride's offense was unimaginative, people play the crusty hard bitten veteran scout. In his short career he's gotten off better runs than anyone we've had recently. Obviously I believe he will be great. A cautionary note: hope he's really ready to go full bore.
I hope he does great, I'm just saying from what I seen he looks more of a situational guy to me, which is fine. You needs guys like that on winning teams.

Height and weight really have nothing to do with it. The guy is a fitness freak and he's pure muscle. The idea that his strength is an issue just isn't true. He doesn't go down easily and sometimes even to a fault.. he's had the ball stripped from him while about 5 defensive players were trying to wrestle him to the ground because he wouldn't go down.
but lacks technique and know how in other areas. Not ready for a featured RB role by any standard right now. Hopefully he can be developed, but he has been here two years already and has had zero production for a 1st round pick.
Height and weight really have a lot to do with how much pounding you can take inside.
Yeah, he's looked strong, with about how many carries?
Let's see the guy play 16 games, get into the rotation, and see how he does.
It's been a small sample size, with lots of room for improvement.
Eh.. 5'8" Maurice Jones-Drew disagrees. He led the league with 343 carries just 2 seasons ago and averaged 100 yards a game. He's nearing 2,000 career attempts.
Wilson's build and ability to absorb contact isn't something I'd be concerned about. His blitz pickups and general football I.Q. are.
And to the guy who said he had poor vision on KR's and was constantly running into the backs of his own players.. wow. Just.. yeah. No.
Wilson's height is irrelevant. He is built very well and will continue to add muscle throughout his career. I honestly was not counting on Wilson to play this season but now with his clearance and the addition of Jennings and Andre Williams the running game should finish in the top 10 this season.
Run inside and out, block sufficiently. Only heard JR huff about one back - the kid who Buff got.
. Pugh,Prince, JPP, the safety? JR doesn't take a rb early unless he's special. I hear a kid who is an animal...wants it bad. I see marvelous talent and power.
. Tellin' ya guys this team has a chance to be very special.
happening in this thread right now. Saying Wilson "sucked the past 2 years" is a grossly incorrect statement. He was an extremely helpful complementary player his first year in the league from a ST perspective and showed flashes during preseason. His athleticism and balance were far and away better than anything we had on the team since a younger, spry Tiki.
Last year, he played in a few games before he got hurt. Games amidst a 0-6 start that saw our offensive line do their best interpretation of swiss cheese. He tries to stop and reverse fields and gets tackled for a loss? YES, where guys are making their first point of contact 4 yards deep behind the LOS that tends to happen.
Jennings is a bonafide starting NFL running back and showed that last season in place of Darren McFadden. Wilson was the unquestioned starter last season (for a reason) and has a chance to be used in a way that will complement his abilities. Williams is an unknown, but looks to be a smart and hungry young guy.
Pretty sure NO ONE ever thought he would be that type of back.
My memory does suck, but you are being way to negative about the possibilities of our RBs.
2008 had 2 guys over 22 (Peterson & Turner. 2007 had Portis leading with only 325
Just get him used creatively and good things can happen
Only on second or third downs.
Greg why don't you think he can be a between the tackles runner?

Actually this is exactly what Barry Sanders did. Loss, no gain, loss, 20+ gain, etc.
Sure, but you're also probably reading the same things about him that were written about guys who remained average or below for their entire careers.

Jennings may be built more like a truck, at 231.

This is the year Wilson either makes it in blue, or doesn't.

Fair enough. But your handle suggests you've been overly optimistic before.

Didn't he set a Giants record with 1,500+ return yards that year?

Wilson 5'9", 205
McCoy - 5'11, 208
Barber - 5'10", 205
Sproules (a hard to find bug at 5'6", 190)
Wilson is a hard-running, tackle-breaking, between-the-tackles demon. Watch his Virginia Tech highlights ….

(Fill-in-the-name) pounds & softens the defense (like Jacobs used to do for Bradhaw); Wilson comes in for "Shock & Awe" time.
I'm not sold on the neck until he takes some shots.....
He has to hold onto the ball and he has to learn to protect Eli.....
