I believe. They drafted Nicks round one and then, desperate to replace that guy who shot himself, drafted Barden figuring he just needed to be coached up.
I think his problem was that he struggled mightily getting separation. That's why I'm glad the Giants did not draft Mike Evans. I have similar concerns about him.

Right on the money. The beginning of Reese's demonstration of his talent evaluation skills.
is fairly meaningless. Most people trot it out when a J Linval type go for gold in their second contract: "hey, he needs to go for it while he can, the average lifespan is only 4 years". JL will be in this league as long as his body holds out. the likes of Barden will last only as long as he can convince anyone he has potential. A huge difference. based on results, RB lasted far longer than he should have.
Quality players last in this league, usually til low 30's. Fringe players make it a couple of years. The average means nothing.
The one memorable game was when he was left running free through an injury-decimated secondary. I'll remember the ridiculously dumb OPI against the Eagles & his no-compete clause against the Jets .
Possibly because they traded up to get him, giving up a fifth round pick IIRC. Miami was apparently hot for him, and they had to settle for Patrick Turner, who also did nothing. Barden was another guy drafted based on his "measureables." The third round is too early for such players IMO.
Aside from Nicks and Beatty, that whole draft was a bust. All those picks and nothing. That was the year we drafted Clint Sintim. We outsmarted ourselves.
RE: I wonder if he is still on Anak's list of favorite players?

he had well over 50 touchdowns in his college career. You mean measurables like that?
obviously it didn't work out, but teams have used third round draft picks on lesser college players than him.

What's your stance on ironic Appreciation threads?
What about "I'd hit it"? Better or worse?
</sarcasm>
I'm sure he got a kick out of that game. He'll never tire of remembering it.
You just made the list, buddy.
Thanks,
Even with all the changes to the NFL over these many years that statistic has been amazingly consistent.

Maybe we could run him up a flagpole?

Ah yes, quite the gem...
