Connor
I suspect he's borderline

if a voter holds longevity as a strict criteria. They tend to want a player to be "dominant" or demonstrate excellence and longevity. Two rings is a huge plus.
HOFer on BBI and in Met-Life Stadium

but not Canton, Ohio...
it was time

Injuries are a bitch. I'm going to pretty much block out the past three seasons and just remember the bulldozer he was 2004-10.
I'm all for another Giant getting in the HOF
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/21/2014 2:12 pm : link
but he just wasn't around long enough or great long enough.

Injuries took away his HOF shot.
He was great for quite awhile.
Big Blue '56 : 7/21/2014 2:17 pm : link
If he's judged a la Dan Hampton, he'll get in..If he's judged like a Hutchinson, then no..
With a more normal career progression
Rob in NYC : 7/21/2014 2:20 pm : link
from 2011 to an older retirement age, it was definitely a reasonable discussion for him to be in Canton. As it stands, I very much doubt it,
How does a retirement effect the cap?
andrew_nyg : 7/21/2014 2:21 pm : link
As opposed to a cut or a release?

Dead money still sits on the cap for this season. They might save a million or two depending on how his contract was last structured.
This is sad...
Jan in DC : 7/21/2014 2:29 pm : link
but I'm glad that he's getting out while he's still able to be in relatively healthy shape. He's been a great Giant. I'm not sure we have what it takes to replace him this year.
Well that confirms it

Vin is now a 2014 asshat.

From another thread on Snee.

Seems about right
What a great write up.

HOF is a good question. Is there a real criteria for judging OL? His career may have been cut short by injury, but it still spanned 9 seasons. For at least 6 of those he was widely regarded throughout the league and media as one of the top OG in the game. For a few years, he may have actually been the best RG in the game. I think he may receive more serious consideration than initially indicated here.

Borderline. Clearly not 1st ballot. However, he did have about 5-6 HOF caliber seasons and 2 rings. Question is whether his last few injury plagued years diminish his career.

They'll save $1M on the cap, because the save the $2M salary he was due, but he receives the maximum $1M injury benefit because he failed his pre-camp physical. So the net savings on the cap is roughly $1M.
Snee is all class!!
ZogZerg : 7/21/2014 3:44 pm : link
I guess he learned from the best.
Here are some OG from the 50's and 60's not in the hall

Snee was an all-time great Giant...but when Stanfel, Kramer, Gray, Sweeney, Gillingham, and Kuchenberg are on the outside...not to mention those from the 70's onward...it is a tough crowd...

OG Dick Stanfel DET WAS 52-58 PB 5 AP 5, PF HOF Sr candidate 93,12
OG Jim Ray Smith CLE DAL 56-64 PB 5 AP 3
OG Jerry Kramer GB 58-68 PB 3 AP 5, HOF finalist 74,75,76,78,79,80,81,84,87
OG Ken Gray CHI C STL 58-70 PB 6 AP 2
OG John Wooten CLE WAS 59-68 PB 2
OG Ed Budde KC 63-76 PB 7 AP 2
OG Joe Scibelli LA 61-75 PB 1
OG Irv Goode STL MIA 62-74 PB 2
OG Walt Sweeney SD WAS 63-75 PB 8 AP 2
OG Howard Mudd SF CHI 64-70 PB 3 AP 1
OG Bob Young DEN HOU STL NO 66-81 PB 2 AP 1
OG John Niland DAL PHI 66-75 PB 6 AP 2
OG Gale Gillingham GB 66-76 PB 5 AP 2
OG Bob Kuechenberg MIA 70-83 PB 6 AP 1, HOF finalist

Bye Chris.

Thanks for making the Giants into winners.
OL is tough
pjcas18 : 7/21/2014 6:06 pm : link
because it's so reputation-based. Hard for most fans to know on their own, with their own eyes who is great and who isn't.

I hear Logan Mankins mentioned as a shoe-in HOFer and he's got 5 Pro-Bowls, 1 all-pro.

Snee is a 4 time pro-bowler, and 1 time all-pro.

Mankings was a part of some alltime great offenses, but so what, Snee has two rings, Mankins has 0.

I don't think Snee is a HOFer, but neither is Mankins.
I cant believe Kuechenberg and Kramer are not in the HOF
PatersonPlank : 7/21/2014 6:34 pm : link
Maybe even Niland. I love Snee, but I wouldn't put him ahead of these guys
Tough, sad day
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2014 7:24 pm : link
he was so high in the spring that both hips were healthy. Really thought he'd make it back for another year. Had no idea the elbow would be this bad. Hell of a Giant.
Niland had some off the field issues
Defenderdawg : 7/21/2014 8:41 pm : link
Never understood Kramer and Kuchenberg unless Forrest Gregg was it for the Packers line and Larry Little was it for the Dolphins...it seems to be a form of rationing slots....Mean Joe Greene but not LC. Greenwod,, Gene Hickerson but not Dick Schafrath, we'll give you Bob Lilly and Mel Renfro but no Lee Roy Jordan, Chuck Howley or Cornell Green...Dave Robinson as physically a dominant player as the 60's could bring had to wait until this year because Ray Nitschke, Henry Jordan, and Willie Wood were in...

Sometimes it's just fate...if the Colts don't tie the game in 58 or the Giants win in overtime, Conerly is the MVP and is in the HOF...one game in a 14 year career...the Colts beat the Jets and Mike Curtis and Bobby Boyd...maybe Tom Matte and Jimmy Orr are in...

Finally the Cards with Ernie McMillian, Bob. Reynolds, Irv Goode, Ken Gray, and Bob DeMarco had an outstanding OL, without the playoff wins however, the all pro teams and pro bowl appearances count for little.
