"stash on our practice squad"

Hondo : 7/21/2014 3:01 pm
has been interpreted by some as maintaining some sort of ownership. On the contrary, anybody on a practice squad can be picked up by any team willing to pay his desired salary.
[ I think ]
very true

but they do have to make room for then on their 53 man roster
You can take them

off the PS, but you have to add them to your 53-man roster.

not from their PS to your PS (directly at least).

They are sort of stashed.
Randy in CT : 7/21/2014 3:08 pm : link
If they were THAT good, they would have made the starting squad. So they are there on the PS presumably without a ton of tape for other teams to see your stashed gem. You put a player there though, be prepared to lose them.
It's a very amatuer term that people on here use all the time

Usually an indication that they don't know what they're talking about.

That is not what the practice squad does, the practice squad is wide open for anyone to take what/who they want ...if there is some they feel is worth taking
If you can't make the Giants 53 as the

I think most
pjcas18 : 7/21/2014 3:23 pm : link
reasonable people know what someone means when they use the phrase. They mean the Giants have a young, raw, player, who they like, but not enough to keep on the 53-man roster.

Ideally they want to continue to develop the player for future years (or even later in the current year).

Most people understand this and don't get worked up over the choice of words.

Other people who are over-analytical about everything do get worked up over this choice of words.

I got a good chuckle out of that one Bill

nice one!
Stash? This is what sometimes happens.

Be careful what you stash.
well said PJ

now can you get everyone to align on what is meant by a "restructure"
One practice squad change I'd like to see
mrvax : 7/21/2014 3:46 pm : link
is if a team wants to snag a guy from your PS, the original teams gets a 24 hour window where they must decide to put the player on their 53 man roster now or let him go to the "new" team.

As it stands, I don't believe the team has any right to keep that player (unless the player refuses to go to the "new" team).
mrvax: Team 1 can still outbid Team 2.
Big Blue Blogger : 7/21/2014 4:23 pm : link
Practice squad players are free agents. They aren't on perpetual waivers. They can offer their services competitively to the highest bidder, including the team they are currently with.
In other words, the only reason Team 1 wouldn't get a chance...
Big Blue Blogger : 7/21/2014 4:25 pm : link
...to match is that the player chose not to give them that chance. It's completely his decision.
Gabbing players from another team's PS
BillT : 7/21/2014 4:37 pm : link
Is happening less and less. With the expanded squads, why would you take a player from another team who knows nothing about your scheme when you probably have someone on your PS who dies. That being said it can still happen.
the expanded roster

is only during the preseason

The regular season main roster and practice squad is the same as it always has been
