There are TONS of sites that cater to sports aficionados looking for all sorts of information.
Local team coverage/In-depth coverage. Betting guides. Fantasy guides. Draft guides. It's endless...
What is out there, BBI? What do you rely on to fill your addiction? It's a huge industry, so what's useful to you? (Especially interested in the bettors out there - do people still pay for services? I hear it on the radio all the time and I thought that time had come and gone)

I used to subscribe to ESPN Insider to get coverage on the Giants, but I can go to the websites of the local papers just as well as they can, and the Corner fills me in just as fast as Twitter ever could, so that's worth the donation.
I found, years ago, that the less I watch, read, and listen to sports coverage outside of game coverage the more I enjoy the sports.
And I pay $35 a year for Pro Football Focus, because I love the participation stats, and I haven't found anywhere else that has them.
I can't really explain why. When a game ends I want to know who played and how many snaps.
I don't buy any magazines, or any other insider subscriptions
And fantasy __________! Billion dollar industries, them all.
Where in the technological revolution are we right now? It feels like a middle beginning point.

Most fantasy sports sites are free. In college and after I'd call the gambling lines regularly and pay for picks/recommendations. My cousin, who lives in Vegas (not that that matters though) worked at one and confirmed what most of us know, the pick they give you is pretty random and geared toward getting half winners every week.

That call in to one of these sports hotlines. They wouldn't exist if there weren't customers.

I know odds makers try to balance it out, but are you saying that the pay services also aim for 50%?
This is very fascinating to me. Thanks

Yes, many of them do. That way half the people win, and the losers, sometimes they'll say, guaranteed, and their guarantee is paid in the form of a credit.
not a refund.
AKA, they're scams.
Yep. Although less so this year with the nauseating commercials that loop and play endlessly. In particular, i hate that I cannot skip through these commercials once they start their loop. It has made watching games after the fact far less enjoyable.
Don't you need to ask yourself if these services are so good at picking winners, why not gamble themselves?
Wouldn't that be more lucrative than selling their picks?
BETA TEST
Fantasy? I can get everything I need for free and I rely on my own opinions more than someone elses.
Sports talk? Millions of free message boards.
TV? I rely on Directv giving me my sports for free(sunday ticket), but I guess I indirectly pay for it because they make so much money off of me.
Interwebs? I would never pay for an insider service because I don't see how it warrants it. Everything is shared and public info these days.

Would depend on the returns, I guess. Gonna follow up this post in a second below.

THIS. This is where we are today yet still these pay services exist.
More information is available about sports teams and athletes than public corporations. More transparent to a degree as well. One would think with the right methodology betting on sports would be safer than taking a flier in the market. I know Mark Cuban launched a sports betting hedge fund with limited success about 8-10 yrs ago.
Democratization of information, right?
