I dont golf much, only maybe 5-6 times a year, but the golf clubs I have right now I've had for years and they are shitty and need to be replaced. I would like to buy a complete set this week. I don't need the cheapest but since I dont golf a whole lot I dont want to spend a ton of money either. I'm fine buying used if its a good deal too. What would you guys recommend?
I'm not a very experienced golfer like some on here, but a buddy of mine knows the manager at our local golfsmith (formerly golf town).
He hooked me up with a good deal (based on list price).
I have Ping Anser steel shafts for under $1000 new, normally they're like $1500.
Can probably get them for much less used.
Very forgiving and as a novice I can recognize that.
Good luck.
If you don't play a lot you should consider cavity back perimeter weighted irons. Or some game improvement clubs

I found a great set for around $300 the driver alone was worth >$200 and was in mint condition
I'm already breaking 120! I rock. By the time you're ready for $1000+ clubs you'll have enough experience to know what you want.
3 wood
5 wood
3 hybrid
4 hybrid
5 iron - sw
And then grab a used Odyssey white hot putter
Irons will probably cost you about 300 - 400
Driver, woods and hybrids around 500 total
Putter around 50
For selection - just take one of the major brands - Ping, Taylormade etc., find their game improvement clubs. Go used and get the model from a few years ago. These things were all being marketed as the new great thing when they came out. If they were awesome in 2010, they're still really good now. You can get drivers that were $200+ a few years ago for under $100 easy. Same kind of thing for other clubs.
Ping G-series are good irons. They're at G25 now, but if you get G10s or G15s you'll be fine.
The cost for new clubs is insane because of the endorsement deals of the Pros. You can find great deals all over on clubs
I would get your swing speed tested to choose the right shaft for the clubs
You can even have clubs built with off brand names. I have a friend who builds clubs and they are fantastic. He is a 3 handicap and uses those instead of his Mizuno irons

Give them your budget and have them give you the clubs that work for your swing.
Pete where in Atl would you recommend to get fitted. Been looking for a good place, but I haven't found it yet. Was thinking about PGA Superstore but I'd like to fined an outside place so I can see my ball flight.
While I have not used them, I've heard good things about The Golf Doctor in Woodstock

Cool thanks Peter I'll take a look at them.
Do you belong to Cannongate? I gave up my membership about 5 years ago, but now I'm looking to get back into and want to do it the right way and get fitted.
Gotcha....I'm in the PTC area so I've got about 6 courses within 10 mins from me. Kind of a no brainer. Just need to play 4-6 times a month to make it worth while.
Just sent you an email.
Thanks for all of the tips, guys.
