NFT: New Series on FX 'The Strain"

Big Al's Boss, Janet : 7/21/2014 8:40 pm
Ok I have tuned in to the first 2 episodes and I can see this turning out to being one to sign up for, has sort of a Walking Dead meets World War Z - I say it's had a better start than "The Leftovers" - Anyone tune into this new show?
Yeah....
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2014 8:53 pm : link

But I read all three of the books and they are really great.

That I've been watching, along with the Leftovers . The leftovers I'm about ready to kick to the curb! I'm in for the long haul on the Strain.
The Strain, The Bridge, Tyrant

Like the idea behind the show but really am unimpressed with the casting outside of Abraham
Yeah the characters are kind of meh...
djm : 7/21/2014 11:12 pm : link
Although Eichorst (Sammel) is good too..

When reading the books I had Clive Owen playing goodweather and the hot brunette from I Robot playing Dr Nora...
its been pretty awful

I thought it was okay, a few interesting plot elements, but nothing special. It's on my DVR list, though, so I'll give it a few more episodes.
As one hr cable dramas

So I am giving this a shot. I watched first episode and it was exciting. I have the second one set up to record this Friday.
Also have watch three episodes of Leftovers, I think I am going to dump it unless this past Sunday's episode sparks my interest. So far not a fan of any of the characters nor do I get the whole cult gathering group. I maybe just dense
Yes to Strain

Has a lot of potential if you like this genre. I don't see it in the class of Walking Dead, but pretty good start. Great premiere and 2nd, while slower, developed some characters.

As for Leftovers. I don't know what to make. My problem is I have no one to root for. I do not like anyone named Garvey and everyone else is weird. The Guilty Remnant don't talk so it is hard to love on them. I will give the show 6 episodes. If there still is this feeling of who cares about these people, I'm out.
I'm not sure about The Strain yet
buford : 7/22/2014 8:54 am : link
or The Lottery. I do like The Last Ship. I like the premise and so far the episodes have been good.
Haven't tried the Strain

was excited when it was announced, but vampires couldn't be more played out right now. The initial reviews weren't that positive either. I may give it a try after the season airs but we'll see.

As for the Leftovers, episode 3 was some of the best acting/directing you will see on the small screen, not to mention the score and writing. It's a polarizing show for sure, but I love it.
The first half of the book is a lot of talking.
kickerpa16 : 7/22/2014 9:09 am : link
Give it time.

There are lots of subtle themes being played out right now that matter a lot in the future.
I'm liking the strain so far

I'm curious to see how this plays out to be a season long thing though. It seems like things are progressing pretty fast already.

Which show?
UConn
kickerpa16 : 7/22/2014 9:31 am : link
The Strain.
ohh ok
UConn4523 : 7/22/2014 9:34 am : link
good to hear. I may have to catch them on demand then.
Yeah, the books were very good.
kickerpa16 : 7/22/2014 9:37 am : link
But they did take quite a while to build up.
Didn't read the books
pjcas18 : 7/22/2014 10:04 am : link
but I found the first two episodes of The Strain to be absolutely riveting.

Stopped watching halt and catch fire after 1 episode. Boring.

Like Tyrant.

Sticking with the leftovers because I want to see if I should like it or hate it, I want to punch those silent f&*ckers in the face. Not sure how much longer it has before I bail though.
it feels
jtfuoco : 7/22/2014 10:55 am : link
like they have covered 50% of the first book in just the first 2 episodes so I wonder if the pacing of the show will slow down now
thing I dislike the most is how much of the story has been driven by
Nitro : 7/22/2014 12:09 pm : link
idiocy.

The CDC's half-applied contagion prevention (let's do autopsies with a face shield, nothing else!)

No questions asked by Bilbo or discount vato as they transport the mysterious "500 pound" coffin of doom. Gotta get that $$$$.

Dismissal of old Van helsing type by EPHRAIM GOODWEATHER (nice name) even though he's clearly tuned into what's going on, somehow

Seriously, the guy's name is Ephraim Goodweather. Oh, we're suppose to be sympathetic to his divorce plight when he started boning spicy fellow CDC doc?

The little girl's dad oblivious to her changed behavior/appearance.

There's a story here that could be well told, it hasn't been yet.
bilbo is Samwise
Nitro : 7/22/2014 12:10 pm : link
obviously.
