FYI.
Why Chris Snee's retirement was not a surprise for the Giants - ( New Window )
The tinkering this year may have mitigated the cap pain a bit...

...but the truth is that Chris Snee's contract has been an albatross since Super Bowl XLVI, and remains one in 2014.

I knew it was coming, I just … everyone just kind of wants that Strahan ending. That's wishful thinking

In hindsight, the best thing for Snee and the team would have been for him to take the Strahan ending when he had it - in February 2012. Love the player he was, and the Giant he is, but if Kevin Abrams had it to do over again, he might re-think those restructures.
ranaan really does a good job

Snee earned every penny of his contract

and deserved to be given a chance to come back. This was much more classy than what the organization did to Simms and Taylor 11 years ago.
I think you missplaced a decade Willie

Simms and Taylor haven't seen the field in 20+ years.
Willie: Nobody questions that Snee earned the money.

My point was that he earned it between September 2004 and February 2012. The cap overhang in the subsequent three seasons is just an unfortunate consequence of a back-loaded, repeatedly restructured contract. It's not Snee's fault.

Saying that his cap number in 2012-2014 constrained the team's ability to restock doesn't diminish his stature or his long-term contribution. You can love the player and still wish he hadn't consumed twenty million cap dollars to appear in twenty games - without great distinction - over his final three years on the books. I love Eli Manning too. That doesn't mean I have to love his contract.
They didn't do anything to Taylor...he himself said

he knew his career was over during the latter part of 1993 and in the playoff game against SF.

As for Simms, the cap was new and GY didn't know how to handle it plus they had drafted Brown whom they saw as Phil's replacement. The fact Phil never played again indicates he probably felt he was done also.

Not true.

Simms has been very clear that he was shocked by being released and would have played another year. He just didn't want to start all over with another team at that point in his life.
Willie is that because neither Simms nor LT were
