With Snee retiring we have an open spot at RG. It was reported that RG is Schwartz's best position. When we signed Schwartz he said they signed him as a LG. Does that change now? Has there been any information about this at all or is it a wait an see approach? Thanks in advance.
I totally agree but I think it had to do with Snee.
I hope like hell that the Center position is solved, otherwise they are worse off than they were last year.
FML
I know his breakout season may have been at right guard but that doesn't mean he hasn't played left guard or won't excell there.
As for LG, Big Blue Blogger made a case that Mosley would be better suited there than at RG. Maybe he can restate it in this thread.
I would think the prudent thing to do now would be to move Schwartz to RG where he has played consistently. Covering up deficiencies on the left side shouldn't trump putting players where they play their best.
Now, you could be right and Schwartz may excel at LG, too, but it just seems to me like a "square peg, round hole" thing.

Keeping in mind that if you're mentioning more mobility, then why won't that be an asset on the right side?
2. The Giants know how well he played at RG. If he can't handle LG, hopefully the Giants' coaches are as smart as BBI and will move him over to RG before the end of camp.
3. Even if he eventually goes over to RG, playing LG will make him more versatile and more valuable.
I'm guessing that his knowledge and experience with the Left Defensive Tackles and Ends in the League and his lack of familiarity with the Right Defensive Tackles and Ends will be Schwartz's biggest hurdle rather than the physical part of it.
How different is the footwork between right and left?
would it be a big deal to switch sides in the middle of camp?
IMO the main difference between the two guard spots depends more on the initial step you take. So there's an adjustment. Some guys make it easier than others.
thats my opinion too

One thing you aren't considering with these 2 points is communication. The "sum is greater than the parts" applies to the OL perhaps more than any other football unit. So having Schwartz practice exclusively, or mostly, at LG for camp/preseason could hurt the overall potential of the OL if they then move him to RG and he has poor communication with Pugh.
I actually think part of Beatty's awful play in 2013 was due to poor communication due to the changing LG position and not always being on the same page as far as picking up blitzers, switching on stunts, etc.

I have no clue how the Giants blocking schemes will change, but under TC/Gilbride, it seems as if they preferred a more mobile LG for pulling and the more powerful Snee on strong side. This was especially the case with Seubert at LG and McKenzie at RT.
The prototypes for LG and RG are hardly etched in stone, though. McAdoo has first-hand experience with fluid roles: the Packers swapped their guards last year. As others have noted with respect to Schwartz (and Beatty), a key consideration in deciding where to put Sitton and Lang was the help needed by Green Bay's tackles.

I had the same question, and was going to start a thread until I saw this one.
And I totally agree with the analysis above by Jimmy Googs.
