Yep and Yep
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:12 pm : link
He's going to be a stud.

I don't even know how to configure the rotation next year. It hurts my head. deGrom has to be an absolute lock at this point. If Thor finishes strong(and I think he will) how do you possibly not make a spot for a talent like that? How do get Neise and Gee in there? What if we can't trade Colon? Obviously Harvey and Wheeler are going.
I know its Vegas but

MDD has been lighting it up lately. He is scorching hot as well.
The forgotten arms
Shecky : 7/22/2014 11:14 pm : link
Montero has been completely forgotten about, which is great. And Hefner will be back next year as well, and could easily be a 5, or long man in the pen.
Matz should be ready

around June. lol
ok. deGrom
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:18 pm : link
is ridiculous. 11 in a row.

struck out the heart of the Ms order that inning. nice
Ive seen deGrom
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:22 pm : link
throw a slider, a curveball, a wicked change up, a rising fastball, and a sinking fastball.

I'm looking forward to seeing Hef back!!!!
Thor still pitching

in the 7th. At 106 pitches.
please tejada
sshin05 : 7/22/2014 11:25 pm : link
injured and on the DL, please....
I bet Hefner
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:25 pm : link
takes Dice K's role as the long man, spot starter, although I really wouldn't mind Dice back.

We have a similar crunch in the bullpen with parnell coming back. Leathersich has been fantastic lately and has to be the second lefty next year. Mejia, Parnell, Familia, Black, Edgin, Leathersich, Torres is already 8. Adding Hefner would be a 9th?
hate to see it happen
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:26 pm : link
like this but if it gets Flores in the lineup so be it.
Mets need to retaliate
ZGiants98 : 7/22/2014 11:30 pm : link
thats the third time they have dusted Wright.
tejada
sshin05 : 7/22/2014 11:34 pm : link
only saving grace is his defense, which is slightly above average but in a lineup like the Mets, they can't afford a position who isn't hitting
Parnell
feelflows : 7/22/2014 11:35 pm : link
is a huge question mark. coming off of TWO major injuries/surgeries

He's making $3.7 and is arbitration eligible.

It should be interesting
It's nice to finally be I
JayBinQueens : 7/22/2014 11:54 pm : link
On the side of having too much young pitching and finding room for them instead of running out AAA pitchers on the regular.

I think this years mets, and Collins, get some slack being able to see the (potentially, nothing is ever guaranteed with this team) bright future right around the corner.
So is this really deGrom?
sshin05 : 7/23/2014 12:05 am : link
I want to see him pitch against stronger lineups.
DeGrom just seems to know what he's doing out there.

the homerun drought. Crushed that by Duda!
deGrom and d'Arnaud
Ralph.C : 7/23/2014 12:29 am : link
We need more guys with lower-case "dees" on this team!

Not to mention "Duda" who just hit a bomb with a capital B!

I don't think he's much more of a question mark then Harvey. The neck was supposedly healed as he went into spring training. I just don't think he was conditioned yet. Tommy John 90% make it back fine. People really don't appreciate what he did last year. He had a fantastic season.

Damn Duda crushed that!

deGrom has been unreal. It would be real sweet for Colon to turn in a nice effort tomorrow afternoon for more ways then one!
Nervous about Colon

He's not been good lately
DeGrom moving closer to ROY consideration

very good find for the Mets
deGrom NL ROY

Who is his competition? Wong? Hamilton?

Who??
according to couthino
feelflows : 7/23/2014 7:36 am : link
deGrom first Met rookie since 68 to spin 3 one run 7 inning winning efforts. Last Met to do that Jerry Koosman-- WOW
deGrom has gotten his TJ surgery out of the way
Headhunter : 7/23/2014 7:50 am : link
I would have to overwhelmed by the return if he is part of a trade package. The move I see him, the better he gets. He has 4 pitches that he throws at the knees. He isn't walking the ballpark anymore. He has ice water in his veins with RISP and less than 2 outs. He has great hair. What else do you want?
As
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 7:53 am : link
of right now I don't see anyone beating out Hamilton for ROY (obviously things change) but he's been worth 3.2 WAR, he's likely going to steal 50+ bases, hit 10+ homers and add GG caliber defense. Weak rookie class in the NL so a collapse by Hamilton + deGrom continuing this would obviously give him a shot but as of today I have Hamilton win by a pretty significant margin.
I think his name should at the least be out there
Headhunter : 7/23/2014 7:58 am : link
in the conversation. I don't care if he actually wins it, but he should start getting national recognition as one of the best new pitchers in the game
HH
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:04 am : link
His name absolutely should be in the mix, in fact outside of maybe Owings I'm not even sure there is a clear #2. I just think Hamilton is pretty clearly in the lead. Rookies don't often steal 50+ with 10+ homers and play plus CF. Hamilton looked like trash to open the season but since then has 100% lived up to the hype. Just shows how much of baseball is timing/luck when Hamilton can have a monster rookie season, Frazier can have a huge breakout, Mesoraco looks like a star and Cueto and Alfredo Simon can have monster seasons but Votto and Phillips get hurt, Bruce has been terrible, Cingrani sucked and Bailey has been meh.
Wow
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:05 am : link
NL rookie leader in homers has only 8.... ex-Met Brandon Hicks. Talk about a down class.

Missed your post draft write up this year, but there is always next year.been following Brooklyn closely and I love what I've seen with my own 2 eyes of Rosario, Urena, Katz, Oswalt, Molina . Rosario looks like a young Jose Reyes with more power
HH
feelflows : 7/23/2014 8:17 am : link
You only mentioned Molina once that last post. You're slipping!!
I
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:18 am : link
like all of the guys you named except Oswalt. Both Toby and others have had him 84-87. His numbers are solid but that's just not MLB stuff, we will see what happens going forward but you don't typically see much of a velocity jump from filled out soon to be 21 year olds. Katz seemingly was underrated from the jump. Has bat will travel isn't always such a bad profile (see Murphy). Obviously Molina and Rosario are the gems of that bunch. Rosario very easily could be the biggest talent in the system (Thor included).
Before
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:21 am : link
the year BA mentioned that Urena had a better chance of being an asset at 3b than previous IFA 3b, Flores, Marte, Aderlin Rodriguez so that alone made him one to pay attention to.
Urena is the man.
arcarsenal : 7/23/2014 8:33 am : link

Chris Flexen with TJ surgery

The

kid Urena leapfrogged (Pedro Perez) has been pretty good as well. Obviously not the greatest sign he repeated but good to see him hitting.
I refuse to have a guy
feelflows : 7/23/2014 8:36 am : link
My guys were :

Butch Husky
Shawn Abner
Alex Ochoa

I'm bad luck.
Ochoa
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:40 am : link
was always overrated for some reason (I bought into it as well). He had a career .768 OPS in the minors, peaked at 14 homers (AA), his arm was A++ but he was a small-ish kid who at best was going to be solid.
The thing about Ochoa Milledge Fernandez
Headhunter : 7/23/2014 8:44 am : link
etal. We had 1 savior in the system to look forward to, now we have 30 if not more that I can make a case for as seeing The Show is some capacity
HH
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 8:48 am : link
I do think you are on to something in that if you have 1-2 "guys" you want them SO badly to be good. Also I think at the time of Ochoa etc people were less stat savvy and just accepted "this guy is a big talent!" I remember being excited about Ochoa too, looking back he wouldn't be a guy who would be uber exciting. More of a good 4th OF profile.
Ochoa was voted the 8th best prospect in the Eastern Laegue
oipolloi : 7/23/2014 9:12 am : link
i believe that vote is by the managers

so, he was never a can't miss prospect. I think a lot of people thought he would continue to develop and add power a la Carlos Gomez. He just never did.

The guy had a cannon of an arm, though. When the Mets had Ochoa, Everett and Gilkey all playing together, that might have been one of the strongest armed OFs ever.
The tunnel vision thing is 100% real
Eric on Li : 7/23/2014 9:18 am : link
same things happened with Heilman and Dotel - who I'm sure in hindsight might not even profile on the level of degrom from a minor league performance standpoint, no less Wheeler/Thor. It's just human nature to overvalue your best "things", whatever they are.
OIP
DanMetroMan : 7/23/2014 9:25 am : link
sure but Gomez is also 6'3 220, and was 6'3 190 in A-ball. 8 homers as a 19 year old in the SAL was nothing to sneeze at and obviously CO vs. CF is a huge difference. 8 homers, 64 steals as a 19 year old, wowzas. BA consistently believed in Gomez, most Gomez's don't make it but the skillset/tools were pretty off the charts
