On so many levels. Pro guys mixing with regular guys. Chargers team bonding. Rivers sucking at shortstop but being a leader. Lineman playing pitcher. Amateurs beating pros.
if more teams did this. The laid back attitude of everyone in San Diego seems to be the reason something like this works. If the Giants played an amateur team in NJ/NY, there would be fights.
RE: Yeah, oddly enough we want our guys focusing on football
Cmon. 2 hours a week of recreational softball in the offseason is going to take their focus away from softball?
How many hours are these guys supposedly working a day in the offseason? Some of these guys are in film study for hours, then working out, then practicing, most of them have families - so yeah, two hours is going to be kinda hard to come by.
And that's without mentioning the possibility of spraining or tearing something while out there.

you don't think they have 2 hours of spare time per week in the offseason? I get the concerns with guys getting hurt because they are going out there with a bunch of idiots who are probably going to play just a little harder when they see professional athletes on the other side of the field, but that has nothing to do with the time it takes away from film study.
I think it's an awesome team building activity to be honest. I love it.
Thanks for sharing.
