Patrick Kane played in a men's league game Monday night in Buffalo. Yeah, you read that right. Like Derrick Rose showing up to your local gym or Jay Cutler throwing passes to you at the local park, the Blackhawks superstar gave these guys in Buffalo quite a thrill when he suited up for their game. And then he dominated them. |
Lyndon Byers regularly plays in a league near me and winds up in fights all the time too.
I'd love to play against these guys, but there is very little good that can come out of it because there are a ton of assholes who play in them.
I didn't read the link, but it sounds like Kane was unscathed.
And if they dominate, the more ire they'd draw from the old drunks.

Good point. My younger brother and older brother used to play "Senior" hockey back home and often teams would pick up an x NHLers from the area or pay good players (former NHL, WHL, college, Junior A/B) to come in during playoffs. Senior hockey can be beer league in some towns and areas and very, very competitive in others.
My brother who is a good player and 6'3 230 tried to lay Pat Falloon on his ass and it went pretty poorly for him. They also lost to Falloon, a couple of Junior A players by about 8 goals to boot. Everyone wants to take a shot or win at all costs when playing someone who is or was famous.
and summer is the worst, because not only do you have the old local pros (I live in metro Boston so there are quite a few), but you get the college kids home for the summer.
Nothing is worse than a late 30's/early 40's has-been/never will be hockey teams who goes through a whole season playing similar teams to make the playoffs and face a team of 21 year old college kids.
We've had some major on-ice riots.
there are a ton of rules in place now to prevent that.
but it still happens.
There is an annual tournament in may called the chowder cup - hundreds of teams from all over the US and Canada in a lot of levels. Everyone plays down a level or two and many teams try and sneak in a pro or two. If your name is in hockeydb beyond college in any way and you're not in the "A" level, you're team is disqualified. It happens a couple times a year.
Yeah it was quite funny. He had Falloon lined up dead to rights and got knocked on his ass like he hit a freight train.
me too.
