This does suck, but it is also an opportunity for Jernigan, Manningham, and Randle. Just be happy we have 5 preseason games this year...strange to say that.
The only thing that heals a hammy is rest, strengthening, and more rest. If it is just a "tweak" I hope they shut him down for the rest of the week at least. If you don't let this heal it will reappear at the worst time.
I have a bad feeling that this will always be the story with this guy
Not that I hated the pick, but I disagreed with it and I have just had this feeling that Beckham will be one of those constantly injured players (and always on the stationary bike).
And people are already going to who's going to replace his production (which we have no idea about anyways) with other guys on the roster? Holy Shit...
Not that I hated the pick, but I disagreed with it and I have just had this feeling that Beckham will be one of those constantly injured players (and always on the stationary bike).
And what did you base that off of? Just a gut feeling? He wasn't injury prone in college.
lets just write off his rookie season as a lost year now
stretch?!?!?!?! They should have mandatory Yoga before each practice!
I wrote an article las year about problems caused by a deficiency od copper in one's diet ... at one point with all the copper piping ... people got all the copper they needed accidentally through water leaching small amounts of copper ... The EPA back some 20 years ago put a rule in effect that required lowering the copper levels at the tap through the addition of some chemicals like zinc and phosphorous ... so this accidental source of a needed mineral was now gone ...
A major problem with copper deficiency is connective tissue disorders ... most of the work here was done on animals where copper is routinely added as a mineral into their diets to prevent that ... One never sees a cow with a torn acl or the like :-) ...
I wonder if this rash of connective tissue injuries versus 20 years ago is due to that ... I don't think anyone ever gets a blood test to see if copper levels are normal or deficient as historically it's never been a problem and no one has ever seen a need for it ...
Athletes who put more stress on these tissues might be more prone towards these ligament weaknesses causing problems there or by extension to the muscular skeletal areas ...
I'm waiting to hear Beckham say: I could play if the game was tomorrow
But I don't think it's the norm for this to happen every.....single.....goddamned year. Once in a while, you'd think the Giants would have some injury luck. Teams DO have good luck with injuries sometimes, you know?
The offense is allegedly simpler, so while this sucks, maybe it won't
...but I'm worried it could derail his rookie season if they don't get a handle on it. He had a month to rest it and then right away he tweaks it again. Not a good sign that this will be easily treatable.
it's not an acl. Perspective... Beason's injury could have been a disaster, looks like he's on target to play by the season opener. Guys who could have been questionable to even participate in camp, namely our LT, a possible 3rd or 4th wideout in Manningham and possibly the starting RG are all participating in camp, even if limited. It seems to me the injury situation might be starting out more favorable than originally thought.
that this is an annual occurrence for the Giants? I just don't get how world class athletes become so fragile the minute they become professionals. And all of this while they are playing 2 hand touch.
that WR wasn't a tremendous need in the draft is beyond my comprehension. You would literally have had to not watch the team play last season or in 2012.
There's a difference between a "tweak" and a "tear" (just like there's a difference between a "twerp" and a "twerk," which we can discuss on a different thread).
A torn hamstring is a killer and means you're out for a couple months. A tweaked hamstring means a week of rest and some physical therapy. If he's on the field and walking through drills, it's a tweak, not a tear - but it could be a twerk and not a twerp.
This is not a Giants-only issue. I don't know why there are posters who continually fail to understand that. There are guys in basically every teams camps that are having these same problems.
Go and follow another team this closely for a week during camp and read every single tweet like we have here and you'll quickly realize that these issues pop up everywhere. It's a league wide problem.
I don't know why all these players are having seemingly more ailments and non-contact injuries happening now but this isn't something unique to the Giants. It's just a really, really fucking annoying, unfortunate part of football.
injuries can and will happen. We just hope they are limited and aren't significant.
If he misses some time, whatever. Just be there week 1. No way am I going to get worked up over a pulled hammy when rest will heal it. Sucks that it happened but it can be 1,000x worse.
I did not hear of Beckham being sought after. We needed OL depth which was addressed with Richburg. But if we draft stud tackle or guard with Pugh and Richburg then we are solid for years. Instead we go with this kid who was not considered at all until draft day. There was a buzz on him and we pounced. If OL was not the pick then DT could have been. Deep WR draft class and we got this guy early.
The training staff would be rethinking its regimen with an eye toward preventing soft tissue injuries like this. The injury situation on our team is usually among the worst in the league. I wonder what our staff is doing to rethink its approach. That would make a good story either way.
OL don't run at full speed and then stop on a dime

You seem to be implying that we only took him because of buzz. Do you really think our FO operates like that?

Of course Fish would be castigating and practicing self immolation if the GMen had selected a Lineman and he had tweaked his hammy yesterday
not really. MAtter of fact, I can't think of a recent training camp that saw the Giants get completely rocked with injuries. They get rocked at times during the preseason...actually they don't...they just lose one big time player in week 3 preseason every year.
WHere the Giants have had injury problems has been right around week 7-8. This happened in 2004. Happened in 2005. 2006....and again in 2010...and even 2012.
The Giants don't suffer that many injuries during training camp and a slight boo boo to the rookie's hammy doesn't change things.
Rookies and younger players tend to pull or tweak things this time of year. Don't panic.
people expecting this rookie to come in here and just blow up and impact this offense, especially early on are asking for disappointment. I'm cautiously hopeful Beckham can contribute as the year progresses but we don't need this kid to be an impact player right out of the gates as much as we need him to be an impact player for the better part of his NYG career.
Of course you want impact out of the 12th pick but the season doesn't rest on this kid's shoulders. Bring him along slowly and hopefully he's making plays as the season moves along.
While BeckHam is Having problems already staying on the field...Aaron Donald was impressive to the point where O coordinator Brian Shottenheimer is predicting Donald as the DROY. Took a lot of crap from guys on this board for loudly and aggressively wanting Donald bad due to the fact he appeared to be a once in a decade DT...still can't believe the Giants passed on Donald...like I said as well as many other...despite the fact that I think Beckham will turn out to be a good player...the Giants will be extremely sorry passing on Aaron Donald
The quad to hamstring strength ratio should be around 3:2, hamstring pulls are because it's compensating for the work the quad does. If the quad is too strong or hamstring too weak, you get a pull, it's very simple balance that our strength coach should pay much closer attention to.
Cybex machines can test the muscle's ability to do work and you can tweak your training appropriately.
And for fucks sake.. this kid pulls a hammy in July and now we're going to "regret passing" on the legend himself.. Aaron fucking Donald because of it.
Some people have absolutely no sense of, well.. anything.

That is correct but also many hammy injuries are occuring due to weak glutes and hip flexors etc whereby the hammy is unsuccessfully trying to accomodate to much of the load. Again tho, there are specific exercises to address these issues.
someone posted that we wouldn't have to worry about Beckham and Hammy issues because his mom is a world class sprinter and he should know how to stretch! Well there goes that theory! LOL! Either way it's the second day of camp and the report is that he Tweaked his hammy so No the Sky is not falling, relax he has plenty of time. It does suck that he wont be on the field getting his reps in.
I am, however, concerned. This is valuable practice time for a rookie. He is a rookie who was expected to push for a starting job to open the season, which makes it worse. I do think they have a nice, deep group of WRs, which can overcome this. But, I still would rather have potentially our 2nd best WR on the field.
too but lets face it beckham was worth the pick the run on OL meant OL wasnt as good a pick at that spot as beckham was
hard to be mad when you look at the talent they got in this draft
all signs looking good on OL so far beatty looking like he is getting back to form, the silence around pugh means he is getting it done,if schwartz and richburg can grab the OC and OG spots then they only need 1 starting OG out of the rest of the OL guys they have now.
would like that to be brewer or mosely so those picks werent a bust, snee retiring could be a good thing they save cap money and can sign a cut down to relace him if needed
and will remove the temptation to play him when he isnt the same/fit enough to handle it
alex boone is also an option if they get him for a trade and can work out a contract for the right terms 6th round pick plus the right cap figure/number of years ?? maybe
Tweaking his hamstring makes Beckham a bad pick? I don't follow you.
I know they don't always play the same position but I bet we see Randle, Cruz and JJ as our top 3 when the season starts.
This does suck, but it is also an opportunity for Jernigan, Manningham, and Randle. Just be happy we have 5 preseason games this year...strange to say that.

You can almost see the ESPN screen shot now for Game 1 that lists 15 injured players for the Giants, and 3 for Detroit.
He'll fall behind, but no where near as much... maybe?
Regardless, I still wish the Giants would've taken Zach Martin. More of a need then, and even moreso now with Snee retiring.
We'll get through this.
Eli's got this?
normally I agree, but not with what has been going on with injuries for what seems like a decade here.
No other way to explain it.

Plus, the WR corp may have needed more talent, but they didn't suck ass like the OLINE.
With Snee now gone, and Beatty still a question to go with all of the other uncertainty...Zach Martin would be looking really good right now.
An immediate plug in next to Pugh, and a 1st man up in case Beatty can't play.
You seem to be implying that we only took him because of buzz. Do you really think our FO operates like that?
You may have wanted an O-lineman more but don't say it wasn't a good pick because he has a sore hamstring in July.

I view the fact that he is still out there as good news. If it were bad he would be in the trainers room.
With any luck,he'll be able to resume practice soon and join his teammates on the New York Seahawks.

He will be awesome addition to the exercise bike brigade.
He hasn't even been hit yet. I wonder what will break when is actually tackled.
