I have a Imac that 5-6 years old and I've backed my files on Time machine through a 1 TB external hard drive. Between the backups and my music, I have about 30 GBs available. I just bought a 2 TB Time Capsule and switched the back up to that and its working fine. Is there any reason for me to keep the backup files on the original 1 TB drive? Second, if I were to delete the backup file on the 1 TB drive, would I have to reformat the drive to make the space available? I'm planning on using the 1 TB drive a backup for music and photos. I don't keep much data on the IMac; Itunes, for example, points to the external drive so the I TB would backup the Time Capsule. Thanks for any help.
