He made 10 career starts after that no-hitter, just 3 were quality starts. He went 6 innings in just 4 games. He admitted to pitching with the injury for many of those 10 starts and rumors came about that the Mets were forcing him to pitch to sell tickets.
That is one hell of a coincidence if it had "nothing to do with it" The guy was on one hell of a tight pitchcount leash all season and then Collins let him through 130 pitches that night.
Anyway... superspy fucked up Colon's no hitter today. What an asshole.
He went 8 innings in LA and gave up 0 runs. The 2 starts prior to that were also quality starts. One he allowed 0 runs in 6 innings and one where he allowed 2.
Where it all went wrong was against the Cubs. In a game where he was pitching fairly well, he got his foot/ankle stepped on badly covering 1st in the 5th inning IIRC and literally from that moment on, got completely bombed every single time he pitched. Got destroyed the rest of that outing and got pulled. He made the last 4 starts of his career after that and gave up 6 or more runs in each of them and then his career was over.
The ankle/foot injury completey FUBAR'd his mechanics and fucked up his surgically repaired shoulder and that was that.
The NH ruining his career is one of the most popular myths in recent Mets history. It's just not true.
"Ever since the ankle injury, basically he's lost his command," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "We don't think he can land properly ... he is using all arm to pitch with, causing some fatigue in his shoulder, (but) no pain. There's just nothing there. So we're gonna disable him and get him some rest. Let the ankle heal and rebuild the arm strength back a little bit."
Santana said his delivery looked different to the team's staff, but he elected to tune it out during games.
"A couple of times, I felt it, but I didn't think about it," he said. "I'm not thinking when I'm pitching on my ankle or anything, I'm just trying to do my job and compete."

"Johan I think is exhibiting the effects of 100 innings and a sore ankle for the last couple of starts," Alderson said. "We think that the ankle injury may have led to some general fatigue. In light of the surgery and where he's been and what he's accomplished, we've gotten to the point where he needs to get that ankle right and get back to the point where he feels confident about pitching."
Santana tried to talk management and the training staff into letting him stay in the rotation.
"He wanted to pitch," Collins said. "Last night when the game was over and I talked to him, he did admit that he did feel his ankle at certain times. But the one thing he realized was, he threw some pitches last night and it was all arm, and that started to concern me."

"The no-hitter's past, man. You guys are going back to the same thing all the time," Santana said. "But it's past, and it has nothing to do with that."
Alderson agreed.
"I don't think so. I think it has more to do with the ankle than the no-hitter," he said.
The only start the no hitter affected was maybe the next start against the Yankees because they gave him extra rest and may have thrown his rhythm off. The rest of the bad starts that season were because of the ankle injury.
Every home run Duda hits Gary screams "THE BIG LEBOWSKI!" Every nice catch Lagares makes he yells "Where baseballs go to die!" lol I wonder if SNY forced him to add a few or something. It seems weird.
I don't ever wish injury on anyone besides Mike Vick.. but I really hope Flores gets to play for a decent amount of time and get a real chance. He deserves it.
Tejada will only be on the short term concussion list and Wilmer will bat .500 with 6 home runs in 3 days and be shipped off to Siberia the second Tejada can tie his shoes.
is out and out defensive when it comes to being asked about making a move or something when implied Flores might have to come up. I swear Tejada is like his kid he feels a need to protect. WTF? Strange. Something is definitely going on there.
Nimmo 0 for 5, he's struggling at AA so far (.189)
Actually not unhappy with AA Nimmo. Walk rate holding steady, surge in HR power. It takes guys time to adjust, but it's nice to see Nimmo's "potential" power start translating to actual power now that he is out of SAV. In SAV, 25% of his hits were for extra bases. Upto 43% in AA is really good. And of course he's gotten better since his 1 for 20 AA debut.
1. The Mets have OPENLY ripped Tejada. Even Collins has!
2. They keep talking about attendance and getting the fans interested. Flores vs. Tejada isn't even close in this regard. I'm not even suggesting Flores sells a single extra ticket but I sure as hell am more interested in seeing him than Tejada. It's not as if Flores plays SS and absolutely sucks that you somehow hurt his trade value. It would just confirm what "most" think aka he's not a SS.
No, because the NH had nothing to do with it.
I'm not big on jinxes.. but just shut the fuck up, man. Come on.

Knew he'd fail
We all see a lot of SS Terry Collins in Tejada

Swisher is the perfect guy to have on this Mets team.
7 IP, 7H, 2 ER, 1BB, 4K. 2.75 ERA in AA
Herrera 2 for 5, up to .360
Nimmo 0 for 5, he's struggling at AA so far (.189)
Gavin Cecchini sighting with a HR, but he's been struggling at A ball
