NFT: Stubhub Cancels My ticket Order - Any advice

DaddyM89 : 7/24/2014 12:22 am
So earlier today I thought I got ridiculously lucky and scored two tickets for jeters last game at the stadium, for $80 dollars total. I tell my dad whose birthday it was today and he's as giddy and excited as I am. 3 hours later they cancel the order and give me a 8 dollar credit to stubhub for the convenience while they say it will take up to 10 business days to refund my money. They also claim there is no comparable tickets which is absolute BS. Has anyone dealt with them before and had any success? Not sure the best way to approach it when I call them. Thanks

Some dickhead got cute and listed 2 50 ydline row b tix for the first game at the new stadium for like 100 each. I cant remember what the listers end game or angle was, but the lister canceled the sale and stubhub wouldnt honor it, or, rather make the seller honor it via his credit card on file. If you dont want to honor it fine, but if you cant at the same time jump up and down about your 100 percent guarantee or whatever they were touting at the time.
dont accept 8$

they will give you more

demand more and if you're told no, then go up the chain. They should honor it. If it was the other way around and you posted tickets and refused to give it to them, Stubhub charges you either a 20% fee or purchases tickets for the buyer and bills you for it. My guess is that you're probably dealing with a new employee at Stubhub.

Their customer service is normally pretty good. I use them all the time for the past 4 years and only encountered one "idiot" in customer service. Once I spoke with his boss, all was made right.
Deadspin ran a few similar stories in the past

Not sure if the bad press ever helped out the guys who got screwed though. Couldn't hurt.
I dont think you have a leg to stand on
MetsAreBack : 7/24/2014 11:28 am : link
the sale was cancelled within 3 hours. Sellers have up to 48 hours to cancel without penalty. They are tracked - repeat offenders either lose their right to sell or get fined... but generally speaking, a seller can cancel within a certain timeframe.

And that policy makes sense. Clearly this seller made a mistake - maybe forgot to add an extra 0 in his sales price. In other cases you have your tickets on multiple outlets and they may have been sold on ticketexchange or whatever just an hour or two before.

Rule of thumb: When something seems too good to be true, more often than not it is.

Take your $8 and move on with your life.
I think

they lowered the amount of time a seller has to report an issue to 24 hours, and the seller no matter what gets charged 20% of whatever the sale price was even if its cancelled.

There's really nothing you can do. You can continue to call stubhub and ask for supervisors and maybe you will find one to do what you want, doesnt hurt to try that but you might just be pissing in the wind too. If you have the time to do it you can call them. Push for like a 100 dollar coupon or something like that, maybe you'll get it. Unlikely but possible

They only bill you for it if you dont notify them of an issue within 24 hours (may be 48 but i think they lowered it to 24)

They charged the seller 16 bucks for the cancelled sale.
If they changed to 24 hours notice...
MetsAreBack : 7/24/2014 1:43 pm : link
then that is within the last month. The last sale i had on stubhub was Game 3 of the SCF on June 4, and on that date it was still 48 hours... here is the text from my "tickets sold - RESPONSE REQUIRED" email from stubhub:

We know things sometimes go wrong. Don't worry - if you report your issue by the deadline above, you won't be charged additional fees. But keep in mind, any change to an order impacts the buyer's experience, and we're keeping track of these issues.

Regardless, this guy cancelled his sale in 3 hours. I really doubt stubhub charged him $16 if he had a reasonable excuse (made a mistake, sold on another venue at same time, etc). Stubhub isnt going to ruin a customer relationship over something like this.
In the news yesterday:

Stub Hub itself was NOT hacked, but some kind of false transactions were made using Stub Hub data that was illegally obtained in some other hacks. I have no idea if this is at all connected with your situation ... but you could check with CS.

MAB, they definitely charged him that. It's automatic when you cancel now. It says it right in the email of the RESPONSE REQUIRED email. My buddy canceled a sale on friday 2 hours after something sold that he forgot to pull. They charged him 25 bucks, which was 20% of the price. He had no issues paying it. It's a new policy but they are enforcing it
perhaps
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 1:53 pm : link
they could reverse that charge if he were to complain but they would charge it initially automatically when he canceled the sale.

Then that is very, very recent
MetsAreBack : 7/24/2014 1:57 pm : link
because my June 4 email doesnt say anything about a 20% charge.
I think
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 2:02 pm : link
it happened sometime in July not sure when.

Here's what my most recent sale says, from July 20th

Reminder: If you're unable to deliver the ticket as promised, your payment method will be charged generally equal to 20% of your ticket cost.
they really do have some nerve
MetsAreBack : 7/24/2014 2:06 pm : link

Yup, that text is brand new and its not a reminder at all.. I just did a search on their website for selling fines/fees and nothing came up about 20%. It's recently launched and totally unadvertised, but they have the gaul to say its a reminder.

In fact just today i put up a few NYR 2014-2015 regular season tickets and in the 'new listings' email it mentions nothing about automatic 20% fines for failing to deliver. What a joke.
